Tradition of the Self-Realization Shala Order

This site is devoted to upholding the Tradition of Kriya Yoga which has been delivered unto us from Mahavatar Babaji through his line of Gurus. This site is devoted in presenting the ancient Self-Realization path of the Tradition of the Ascended and Unascended Masters of the Great Brotherhood of the White Light in simple, understandable and beneficial ways, while not compromising quality or depth. The goal of this sadhana or practice, is the highest Joy that comes from the Realization in direct experience of the center of consciousness, the Self, the Atman or Purusha, which is one and the same with the Absolute Reality.

Self-Realization comes through Yoga meditation techniques from the line of Gurus from Babaji of the Himalayas, the Yoga Sutras, the contemplative insight of the Vedanta teachings, and the intense dedication and devotion of ~Gurudevi, Shri Maha-Shaktiananda; founder of Self-Realization Shala Order in 1970 and the creator of Shaktiananda Yoga Technique in 1968 which represents the classical approaches of Raja, Jnana, Bhakti, and Karma Yoga as well as Hatha, Kriya, Kundalini, Laya, Mantra, Nada, Siddha, and Tantra Yoga. The teachings of the Ascended and Unascended Masters of The Great Brotherhood of the White Light finally converge through meditation, contemplation, mantras, prayers, and affirmations into a unified force directed towards the final stage, piercing the pearl of wisdom called bindu, center within the whole, nature of wholeness, Self-Realization leading to the Absolute I Am That I Am.

                                                Mahavatar Babaji

The main source of all information about Babaji comes from the book Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramahansa Yogananda, because Yogananda, his guru Sri Yukteswar, and his guru Lahiri Mahasaya, all knew Babaji personally.

"Babaji" simply means "revered father or grandfather," and many gurus and masters are called Babaji. But this Babaji is about 5,000 years old, a true immortal. In a moving scene from the book, Babaji promises to remain in a physical embodiment until the end of this earth cycle. He is called a "Mahavatar," the teacher of avatars.

Much of the time Babaji dwells in the Himalayas near the pilgrimage town of Badrinath, India, with a small band of disciples. He is unapproachable physically, because to be with his immortal body would be "fried".

Ever of service, always knowing what is needed in the world to help humanity awaken to divinity, Babaji sent Yogananda to America to fill the yearnings for greater spiritual fulfillment he felt coming from there.

The immortal master also manifests temporary incarnations. The best-known of these of recent times is Herakhan (or Haidakan) Baba, who manifested an adult body in a cave near his old ashram. He dwelled in this ashram for 14 years, helping the thousands of people who came from all over the world to be with him, and indirectly the billions of people living on Earth. Over the years he took on enormous karma, resulting in a body which gained weight and seemed to age. But he remained ever-joyous and light-filled.

Miracles abounded around him, but never for show. Once a busload of visitors appeared unexpectedly just as people were sitting down to dinner. Worried staff asked what they should do, because they had not nearly enough food. "Serve!" Babaji replied--and there was more than enough for everyone. When he and a devotee got caught in a rainstorm, she arrived back soaked to the skin; there was not a drop of water on his body.
Such things are not important, but they do accompany the love and enlightenment of the greatest of masters.

Almora Baba, is a present incarnation of the immortal master Babaji who is about 5,000 years old, ever youthful, and a great server of humanity. Babaji has every power: he travels by thought, and manifests anything needed from the air. Almost nothing is known about how to contact him except that he is sometimes in Almora, India.

Paramahansa Yogananda has said that to say the name of "Babaji" with devotion will bring blessings into one's life.
