LHFC CECIL BATTS TROPHY WINNERS!!!

On a sunny Friday evening on the 24th of August the Cecil Batts Trophy was contested between Eynsham and LHFC.

The game started with LHFC playing into the low sun and Eynsham pilling on the pressure from the start. With their single striker holding the ball and the packed midfield running in to support him, Eynsham were already causing problems for the LHFC defence. The defence soon adapted to their tactics and where unfortunate to go a goal down early on. A harmless shot from the edge of the area hit David Rose on the leg when he attempted to block it and the ball rebounded over the helpless LHFC 'keeper into the net.

With half time soon approaching LHFC where Gunning for an equaliser, when Eynsham conseeded a free-kick on the edge of their area. Dan Haggie stepped up to take it and fired it home in to the bottom right corner.

In the second half LHFC shuffled the team about due to injuries and went out with a much improved mentality. They looked much sharper and created many more chances, with Craig Johnson, Paul Rose and Dan Smith coming close. Neil Rose ran on to a through ball for a 50/50 with the Eynsham 'keeper but was eledged to of headed the ball out of the 'keepers handsand so the goal did not stand.

The game finally went to penalties at 1 - 1.

The first LHFC pen was scored, followed by Eynsham's which rocketed over the bar and landed in Witney. LHFC then Scored their remaining penalties and became 2007 Cecil Batts Trophy Winners!!

Well done fella's, great effort once again!!!

49th Freeland Six-a-side Champions!!!

On the 4th of August LHFC won the 49th annual Freeland six-a-side!

The team, lead by new manager Andy White, got off to a great start in the competition beating rivals and hosts Freeland 2-0. They then went on to win their respective group, winning 4 of the 5 games, drawing the other, and conseeding only the one goal. This qualified them for the George Hazell Knockout Cup.

In the semi-final LHFC were drawn against a strong Cassington team. There was nothing between the two teams until late on when Dan Smith took advantage and put LHFC 1-0 ahead and into a tough final against North Leigh.

The game started badly for LHFC as Noth Leigh put a lot of pressure on the LHFC defensive partnership of Matt Ellis and Keith Frendo, with even them sometimes being beaten, but only for North Leigh to be denied by keeper Shane Fowler. This pressure then eventually played into LHFC's hands as the pace of Craig Johnson and Tim Osmand created counter attacks to supply Dan Smith with the two winning goals which saw LHFC win the tournament in their cententary year!!

Great start to the season lads, lets try and build on it!!!
