Emerald Gym Leaders
Gym 1-Roxanne
- Geodude (12)
- Geodude (12)
- Nosepass (15)
Roxanne uses Rock type Pokemon, specifically two level 12 Geodudes and a level 15 Nosepass. If you chose Mudkip or Treecko as your starting Pokemon, you should have no problem clearing this gym. If you chose Torchic, my suggestion is to capture a Ralts or a Beautifly and use Psychic type attacks.
Gym 2-Brawly
- Makuhita (19)
- Meditite (16)
- Machop (16)
Brawly uses a level 19 Makuhita, a level 16 Meditite, and a level 16 Machop. Normal type Pokemon won't do well, but if you have picked up a solid Psychic or Flying type, you'll do well.
Gym 3-Wattson
- Voltorb (20)
- Electrike (20)
- Magneton (22)
- Manectric (24)
Wattson is the Electric gym leader in this game. Any of the starters would work well, and if you taught your Mudkip a Ground type move, you'll win fairly easily. Wattson uses a level 20 Voltorb, a level 20 Electrike, a level 22 Magneton, and a level 24 Manectric.
Gym 4-Flannery
- Slugma (24)
- Numel (24)
- Camerupt (26)
- Torkoal (29)
This fiery gym leader uses a level 24 Slugma, a level 24 Numel, a level 26 Camerupt, and a Torkoal at level 29. If you chose Mudkip, you should have no problem defeating this gym leader. Otherwise, a decent Water, Rock, or Ground type should work well.
Gym 5-Norman
- Vigoroth (27)
- Slaking (31)
- Spinda (27)
- Linoone (29)
Your dad uses Normal type Pokemon, a level 27 Vigoroth, a level 31 Slaking, a level 27 Spinda, and a level 29 Linoone. Don't let the Normal type lower your guard, they know powerful attacks! If you have a good Fighting type or a Pokemon with good defense, your chances are good.
Gym 6-Winona
- Swablu (29)
- Tropius (29)
- Skarmory (31)
- Pellipper (30)
- Altaria (33)
Winona uses Flying type Pokemon. She owns a level 29 Swablu, a level 29 Tropius, a level 31 Skarmory, a level 30 Pellipper, and a level 33 Altaria. Electric types will do well against Pellipper and Skarmory, and Ice will do best against Swablu, Altaria, and Tropius.
Gym 7-Liza and Tate
- Lunatone (42)
- Solrock (42)
- Xatu (41)
- Claydol (41)
These two psychic twins use a level 42 Lunatone, a level 42 Solrock, a level 41 Xatu, and a level 41 Claydol. You face them in a double battle, so you can launch many combo attacks on them. They're capable of using highly powerful moves; I know I had a hard time beating them! If you can get Bug types, that's great! Ghosts will also work.
Gym 8-Juan
- Luvdisc (41)
- Kingdra (46)
- Sealeo (43)
- Crawdaunt (43)
- Whiscash (41)
Juan is the final gym leader. He uses powerful Water Pokemon, as in a Luvdisc at level 41, a Kingdra at level 46, Sealeo at level 43, level 43 Crawdaunt, and level 41 Whiscash. Apart from tough Water attacks, most of his Pokemon know Ice attacks, too, so you won't get far with Grass Pokemon. I recommend Electric Pokemon; they're fast, they can learn heavy damaging moves, they can slow their opponents down with paralysis, they're awesome! If you can get a sturdy Electric type, maybe two, you'll have a much easier time.
