The Shawnee Gem and Mineral Society was founded in 1989 At Bob and Nancy Hicks house. The first officers were: President-Bob Hicks, Vice-President Nancy Hicks, Secretary-Louise Hinder, Treasurer-Louise Hinder. Louise Hinder was also the first Editor for the Shawnee Gem and Mineral Society. In March of 1989 it was recognized by the Rocky Mountain Federation as a new member club.
The club was founded for the purpose of studing and appreciation of Rocks, Minerals, Gems, and Fossils. We teach each other all relevant techniques, with the use Slides, Video, Speakers and hands on projects.
We have a Junior Club that meets one hour before the regular membership meeting.
