MUSEUMS OF OKLAHOMA


                MUSEUM OF THE RED RIVER.

1.   The museum of the Red River is located on the South Bypass in Idabel, Oklahoma.

The Museum has had a new wing built on the South Side of the Museum to house the new addition. A cast of Acrocanthosaurus, "Means high- spined lizard."

Probably a member of the allosaurid family.

This Acrocanthosurus was found by two Oklahoma Rockhounds: Cephis Hall and the late Cid Love.

2.   Dr. David London of the University of Oklahoma School of Geology and Geophysics has worked with the museum to prepare this long-awaited exhibit:

It is planned to have a exhibit of more than 75 geological specimens from across the state. The exhibit opened on December 20, 2005.

        Although the museum at first consisted of the collection of over 10,000 items, it is still growing.

        Since incorporating and setting up a board of Directors to run the museum, we have had offers of exhibits and donations of all kinds, which we will display them as space permits.

        This museum is listed as an educational non-profit corporation with the State of Oklahoma and the IRS.

   MUSEUM ACTIVITIES

         The museum is open for walk-in visitors: however, scheduled tours can be made in advance. Scheduled tours include a 45 minute guided tour of the museum

  TOURS ARE AVAILABLE FOR:

1.  School Groups (public, home & private.) Grade school through high school.

       "KIDS LOVE IT"

2. Church Groups

3.  Civic Groups

4.  Senior Citizen Groups

5.  We also go to schools and will put in a display or exhibit in Library's or other puplic fuctions when asked.

           CLASSES FOR ROCKHOUNDS

We schedule classes for a nominal fee to cover the cost of materals in :

1.  Silversmith

2.  Jewelry Making

3.  Rock cutting and Polishing

4.  Mineral Identification

5.  Fossil Preparation

6.  Flint Napping

The museum has well qualified teachers from the local rock clubs to be sure you get the best instruction possible.

4. ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY'S WILLARD ELSING MUSEUM

The Willard Elsing Museum is located In the Learning Resources Center at Oral Roberts University.

On display is the large colection of the late Willard Elsing.
