Subtropical Swimming Paradise

(View of the pool from a postcard in 1996)

At the moment this is probably the best indoor swimming pool you can expreience on this side of the country. The best part about it being that it has a different pool for everyone. For the strong swimmers there is the Wild Water Rapids, Flumes and Grand Cascade. For the weaker swimmers there is the main pool, hot whirlpools, lane swimming, outdoor pool, kiddie pool, pirate pool and spa pool. It doesn't end there either, the pool is themed on a tropical rain forest and we all know tropical means warmth. Yes the pool is maintained at a tropical temperature all through the year helping the banana trees grow and heat seakers soak up. It is advisable in summer to take in some suncream, as the pool only has trasparent plastic sheets to keep the visitors sheltered.

Strong Swimmers

GRAND CASCADE

Guests were greeted to a brand new attraction in 2005, one which has never entered the UK before. Yes you bet its a dingy slide. Reaching quite a speed in just a few seconds its a great thrill. Fitting 4 people per boat the raft spins in the wide, enclosed tunnels. The raft sometimes gets up to 90 degrees on the tunnels which is really surprising for the person on that side of the raft. I suggest you get in the queue right when it opens as it can get up to 30mins

FLUMES

FLUME 1

This is the fastest and most thrilling flume of the 2. This flume starts right at the edge of the building and continues its path outside of the building. Mostly enclosed in a tunnel, this allows for higher banking on the turns and faster speeds. This flumes water jets seem about twice the power of the other leading a better ride. Not meaning to cause dangerous behavior here, but I would advise that you hold onto the bar and stand up before you set of, then pull yourself down making a quicker pace.

FLUME 2

This flume is located in the centre of the building and winds itself down through the Banana trees. This is quite a tame flume and if your not careful you can end up getting stuck if you are quite heavy. The ride doesn't have very powerful water jets which causes the problem. However this is a good starter for the nervous and smaller children.

WILD WATER RAPIDS

This was until the Grand Cascade was built the star attraction. Winding outside slowly through small channels then entering the building at an incredible speed, where the real stuff begins. The best part about this is that you can choose which part you ride. There are many points where you can get in and out of the water current, so its great if you just want the tame bit. The rapids can be slightly uncomfortable at some points if you don't follow the instructions for riding, so make sure you do!

WATER SLOPE

This has quite a small height limit so its not really for adults. However this is a short but amazing drop for the younger ones. This is probably the steepest water slide you'll see for a long time. Dropping straight into the rapids, you decent at what seems like 80 degrees at a true speed. I think I'll leave this one for you to rate...

General Swimmers

OUTDOOR POOL

This is a great part of the complex as you can go outside and enjoy hot steamy water in the middle of January. Here there are mini bubble pools and jets to sit ouside and relax in. In this pool the rapids begins so that part of the pool can get pretty crowded, leaving the back of it as quiet as can be.

WAVE POOL

This is the main and largest pool in the building. A call from Tarzan and flashing lights signal the wave machine starting up. It is so much fun to swim against the waves and even if your not a strong swimmer, there is the shallow section to enjoy the waves too.

DEEP WATER LANE SWIMMING

This pool is newer that the rest and is quite hidden. This is really just a pool like your local, so I can't really say much about it.

Relaxation Seekers

HOT WHIRLPOOLS

At 35 degrees everone should be relaxed in these Hot Whirlpools. Bubbling up at 5 minute intervals, two of these pools stand side by side. The great thing is once one pool stops bubbling the other one starts so you can get straight into another bubble pool right after. There are two of these double whirlpools. One is age 16+ and the other is age 5+

Other

COLD PLUNGE POOL

If you want to impress your friends this is the way to do it. In the outdoor section of the pool there is the cold plunge pool. This is only a small pool but it is really a challenge to stay in more than a few seconds. Coming out of water that is around 25 degrees its a bit of a shock going straight into water 10 degrees cooler.

Kids Pools

Pirate Pool

This is a highly themed pool for ages 7 and under, containing 2 mini flumes, a pirate ship and other fancy water features.

Smaller Kids Pool

This is a shallow pool specially for kids 5 and under. With themed water slides and mini water jets the kids will love it.
