Sith

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki.

"Treachery is the way of the Sith."
— Darth Tyranus

The Sith were a sect of dark side Force users bent on conquering the galaxy and defeating the Jedi. They were characterized by their single-minded lust for power and the brutal methods they were willing to use in order to acquire it. The sect existed in many diverse forms throughout galactic history. Originally, the Sith were a humanoid species that interbred with a group of exiled Dark Jedi, but after the rise and fall of that people, the meaning of the term 'Sith' evolved. In time, the Sith would not be identified by their race, but by their dedication to the ancient Sith philosophy.

Forged by fire

"Without strife, your victory has no meaning. Without strife, you do not advance. Without strife, there is only stagnation."
— Uthar Wynn

Sith philosophy emphasized conflict. The Sith believed that it empowered both individuals and civilizations by forcing them to change, grow, and evolve. Conflict ensured that only the strong would survive, thus leading the Sith down the path to perfection. Sentients only deserved what they were strong enough to take and those too weak to protect themselves were fair game.

The pacifistic teachings of the Jedi were viewed as obstructions to progress; lack of conflict led only to stagnation and decline. Morality was treated as an obstacle to be overcome. It got in the way of a Sith's ability to recognize and grasp opportunities for advancement.

Empowered by passion

"What fuels your power with the Force but your passion? The stronger, darker emotions. Anger, hatred, fear... these passions empower us."
— Yuthura Ban

The core of a Sith's power came from emotion. The Jedi taught that fear and anger were negative emotions that must be overcome, but the Sith understood that every living creature was subject to such passions. They believed in harnessing rather than suppressing these natural urges. The Sith did not endeavor to place themselves beyond passions as the Jedi did, on the contrary, they recognized that emotion was required in order to attain a holistic understanding of the Force.

However, not all emotions were embraced by the Sith. They, like the Jedi, considered "love" a dangerous emotion, but for different reasons. The Jedi discouraged love because it led to attachment, but the Sith taught that love led to mercy which was anathema to them.

Many of the incarnations of the Sith order began with a Sith holocron and an overly curious Jedi.

The term Sith referred to numerous disparate dark side organizations that rose and fell over thousands of years of galactic history. No single entity long survived the vigilance of the Jedi Knights, but even in defeat the ancient Sith teachings proved difficult to suppress. Each time the Jedi Order grew complacent, a Sith cult, brotherhood, order, or empire would arise from the ashes to threaten the galaxy once more. New iterations of the Sith would be linked only tenuously to past traditions through a shared ideology.

Sith (species)

The Sith were a species of red-skinned humanoids native to Ziost and Korriban that were enslaved by exiled Dark Jedi. Prior to their discovery, the Sith were divided into a meek and lowly slave class, a skilled and intelligent engineer class, and the warlike Massassi class. Over time, the Sith interbred with the Human Dark Jedi through the practice of Sith Alchemy and the two peoples became one.

Massassi

The Massassi were the warrior class of the Sith species. Under the rule of the exiled Dark Jedi, many Massassi captives were subject to Sith Alchemy which resulted in them being more deadly and easier for their Sith masters to control. They were distinguished by bone spurs which erupted from their skin and by their abnormally giant size. They would serve as soldiers for the Sith Empire.

Sith Empire

The Sith Empire was a rich and powerful empire that was established by Dark Jedi banished from the Galactic Republic after their defeat at the Battle of Corbos during the Hundred-Year Darkness. After developing in complete isolation for thousands of years, the Sith eventually rediscovered the Republic. The Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow led the Empire in an invasion during the Great Hyperspace War, but he was defeated. The Sith Empire was believed to have been utterly destroyed by Republic forces in the aftermath of the Second Battle of Korriban.

Brotherhood of the Sith

The Brotherhood of the Sith was a group of Dark Jedi founded by Exar Kun who broke away from the Jedi Order to study Sith techniques. During the Great Sith War, the Brotherhood attempted to conquer the Republic with the aid of the Krath and the Mandalorian Crusaders. The Brotherhood was defeated and virtually exterminated during the Battle of Yavin IV.

Krath

The Krath was a Sith secret society founded by Aleema and Satal Keto, the bored heirs to the Empress Teta system. Following a Krath attack on a Jedi conclave, Ulic Qel-Droma attempted to infiltrate the group, but he failed. He was seduced to the dark side and eventually became the leader of the sect. During the Great Sith War, the Krath became the military arm of Exar Kun's Sith Order and fell with it on Yavin IV.

Sith Empire (Jedi Civil War)

The Sith Empire was temporarily resurrected by the fallen Jedi Revan and Malak. Built upon a hardened core of veterans from the Mandalorian Wars and a host of Jedi converts, the fledgling new galactic power very nearly succeeded in conquering the Republic during the Second Sith War. After the redemption of Darth Revan and the death of Darth Malak, their Empire splintered into factions and eventually collapsed.

New Sith Empire

The New Sith Empire was a vast area of galactic territory which the Brotherhood of Darkness ruled over with an iron fist. At its height during the New Sith Wars, it was even greater than the Sith Empires of Naga Sadow and Darth Revan. The New Sith Empire crumbled after the devastating Seventh Battle of Ruusan.

Sith Order (Bane)

The last surviving Sith Lord, Darth Bane, reinvented the Sith Order into an organization based on stealth and secrecy after the Sith defeat on Ruusan. He founded the Rule of Two that would allow his eventual successor, Darth Sidious, to finally triumph over the Jedi and the Republic 1,000 years later.

Disciples of Ragnos

The Discipes of Ragnos was a Sith Cult under the leadership of Tavion, who sought to resurrect the spirit of Marka Ragnos through ancient Sith sorcery and take control of the galaxy. The cult was closely related to the Reborn movement of which Tavion had herself been part. The cult was ultimately defeated by the New Jedi Order.

Legacy Era Sith

By the year 140 ABY a new Sith Order has risen to take the place of that of Bane's. Little is known about this new threat save that it threatens to dominate the galaxy all over again. The Legacy Sith have risen.

Ranks

The Sith had a clearly defined hierarchy which divided the strong from the weak, but because the Sith order existed in numerous disparate incarnations, the Sith hierarchy did not maintain a single continuous ranking system throughout its history. The Sith hierarchy remained much the same for almost 6,000 years - through the ancient Sith Empire, Exar Kun's Brotherhood of the Sith, and Darth Revan's Sith Empire - until Lord Kaan declared that all of his highest ranking followers in the Brotherhood of Darkness were Dark Lords of the Sith. Like the Jedi and the Old Republic, the Sith underwent a great reformation after the apocalyptic final Battle of Ruusan. The Sith order's destruction inspired Darth Bane to reform the order and decree that there would be only two Sith at a time from that point forward: a Master and an apprentice. Both would bear the title "Dark Lord of the Sith," which would become synonymous with the term "Sith Lord."

Sith Empire

These were the ranks of the Sith Order before Darth Bane instituted the Rule of Two.

Sith Minion

Sith Minions were the lowliest members of the Sith. Some were not even Force-sensitive, and often worshipped the Sith Lords as gods. Sith Cultists, Sith Assassins and Sith Marauders can be considered examples of Sith Minions. However, the Sith also used soldiers, mercinaries, and conscripts to work for them.

Sith Assassin

Specialised Sith minions included Sith Assassins, who preferred to ambush targets from the shadows rather than engaging them in standard combat. Almost always working solo or in small groups, they utilised stealth field generators and the rare art of Force camouflage to launch surprise attacks on their Jedi victims. While some used a lightsaber, most fought with more conventional melee weapons such as force pikes. Darth Traya, Darth Sion, and Darth Nihilus commanded legions of Sith Assassins during the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War, causing the near-exterminatin of the Jedi Order.

Sith Acolyte

Sith Acolyte were Force-sensitive apprentices who had only just started down the dark path under the tutelage of a more experienced Sith.

Sith Warrior

Sith Warriors were midranking Sith who generally focused their energies and skills towards battle, spending little time on actual dark side philosophy or other concerns of the "purer" Sith.

Sith Marauder

Sith Marauders, a varient of the Sith Warriors, were often responsible for the most brutal acts carried out by the Sith. Their training emphasized the aggressive use of a lightsaber rather than the Force. A Sith Marauder's berserk physical prowess was a dark side technique fueled by hatered, rage, and cruelty. Thus, most Marauders could duel any average Jedi, toe-to-to, and win easily. Caring little for the subtleties of manipulating others and lacking a deep understanding of the Force, Marauders were often burdened with carrying out the wishes of the Sith Lords.

Sith Lord

Sith Lords were the leaders of the Sith. They commanded armies of Sith Minions, Acolytes and Warriors during wartime and ruled through a governing body known as the Sith council. Sith Lords used the dark side of the Force to inflict misery, suffering, and corruption. They were also tasked with preserving the lore of the Sith by passing all their knowledge on to their acolytes. While they did not enter combat as often as lesser Sith (preferring to use pawns, servants, or proxies), they were the most fearsome of the Sith as they were the keepers of the Sith's greatest secrets and wielders of its most potent sorceries.

Dark Lord of the Sith

Dark Lords of the Sith were the greatest and most powerful of the Sith Lords. Up until the reign of Kaan, it was a title that was only given to those that were acknowledged as the leaders of their order, but by the end of the New Sith Wars the title was held by many Sith Lords simultaneously.

Post-Bane

"Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody power, the other to crave it."
— Darth Bane

To ensure the continued survival of the Sith, Bane institutes the Rule of Two. In Bane's order, both Sith held the title Dark Lord of the Sith.

Sith Master

Sith Masters were Sith Lords that had an apprentice serving beneath them. Notable Sith Masters include Darth Sidious, Darth Plagueis and Darth Bane.

Sith Apprentice

Sith Apprentices were Sith neophytes that were studying under the tutelage of a Sith Master. Notable Sith Apprentices include Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus/Count Dooku, and Darth Vader.

Palpatine Era

When Palpatine declared himself Emperor, the Sith controlled the known galaxy, in a political sense, for the first time. With this new, far-reaching authority came a need for functionaries throughout the Empire who were, to one extent or another, supporters if not adherents of the dark side. Though not Sith in any strict sense, these quasi-Sith minions were known generally as Dark Side Adepts. As Force-sensitive individuals serving the Emperor, they supported his Sith rule by working in the roles of servants, agents, intelligence operatives, military officials, etc. Dark Side Adepts were particularly important when Palpatine was reborn into his clone bodies, five years after his death.

Inquisitors

Inquisitors were the highest ranking Dark Side Adepts, members of the Inquisitorius, a special division of Imperial Intelligence.

Prophets of the Dark Side

The Dark Side Prophets were an ancient Outer Rim renegade Sith order founded by Darth Millennial. Though not Banist Sith, the Prophets were arguably a kind of true Sith. Darth Sidious rediscovered the group and brought them once again under his control, renaming them the Emperor's Mages.

Emperor's Hands

Emperor's Hands were top-secret special operatives trained in the Force by the Emperor himself. They were so secret they usually had no knowledge of each other. Mara Jade was one of the best-known Emperor's Hands.

Together with the Emperor's Mages, the Emperor's Hands were called the Dark Side Elite.

Imperial Royal Guard

These were hand-picked elite Stormtroopers assigned to protect and serve the Emperor directly. They were required to have Force sensitivity, even if undeveloped. Those with advanced talents were assigned as Sovereign Protectors, and those with even more advanced talents underwent Force training under Dark Jedi tutors.

Dark Jedi

Although the name might imply otherwise, Dark Jedi were not synonymous with Sith, although Darth Vader among others used techniques drawn from the traditions of both the Dark Jedi and the Sith. It was much more likely for Dark Jedi to return to the Light (e.g. Kam Solusar). Other notable Dark Jedi included Sora Bulq, Joruus C'baoth, Jerec, and the particularly infamous Asajj Ventress.

Count Dooku (102 – 19 BBY) (also known as Darth Tyranus) is a fictional character from the Star Wars universe. In the films, he is played by Christopher Lee, and is voiced by Corey Burton in the video games and the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars. He is a supporting villain in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

Dooku is a Sith Lord whose war crimes during the Clone Wars indirectly brought about the Great Jedi Purge and the fall of the Galactic Republic. His Sith name is Darth Tyranus, a name obviously derived from "tyrant" but particularly more at "tyrannous." The name Dooku is said to derive from the Japanese word "doku" (毒), which means poison. However, "Count Dooku" could simply be a joking reference to "Count Dracula", whom Lee has depicted in many Hammer movies (notice that Dooku was killed by beheading, which is one of the few ways to kill Dracula). His full birth name is unknown, but it is believed he has no other name beyond Dooku (similar to his old master, Yoda, and his second master, Darth Sidious).

Biography

Dooku was once an esteemed Jedi Master, apprentice to Yoda and Padawan to Thame Cerulian. As soon as Dooku became a Jedi Knight, he immediately wanted an apprentice. He considered Qui-Gon Jinn to be his best choice. He manuevered to get Qui-Gon first, after the first time he saw Qui-Gon in lightsaber training, at 10 years old.

"Dooku knew that a Master would be judged by prowess his Padawan, and he wanted the best of the best. When Yoda had given his approval of the match, Dooku was satisfied. Another step had been taken toward his goal - to surpass Yoda as the greatest Jedi ever." - Legacy of the Jedi

Dooku was such a skilled warrior among the Jedi that, in 44 BBY, he led the Jedi in combat against the Mandalorians. Almost all of the Mandalorians were slaughtered, except for Jango Fett and several others spread throughout the galaxy. Almost a third of the attacking Jedi fell to the Mandalorian guns. After this battle, Dooku became skeptical of the Republic and sensed corruption within it, leading to his resignation from the Jedi Order. His bronzium bust is displayed in the Jedi Archives, along with the rest of the Lost Twenty, the only Jedi Masters ever to resign their commissions from the Jedi Order.

An accomplished philosopher, orator, warrior and Force-adept, he was regarded as one of the greatest Jedi in the Order's twenty-thousand year history as much for his strength of character as his strength in the Force. With a deep voice and seductive charisma, this political idealist and wealthy aristocrat displayed elegance, class, and intelligence.

Dooku had been a practitioner of the Force for nearly eight decades, and he and his student Qui-Gon Jinn would surely have sat on the Jedi Council if it were not for their maverick views. In addition, Dooku is a master swordsman, specializing in the ancient, seldom-used and elegant Form II Makashi art, which makes use of his special curved saber hilt. Form II is known for its efficiency in lightsaber versus lightsaber combat, as it was bred for the sole purpose of lightsaber combat. Dooku chose the style because of his beliefs in elegance and gallantry. This fighting style makes him an able match to the skilled Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker.

Dooku left the Jedi Order around the time of the Battle of Naboo and reclaimed his family title as Count of Serenno. He was frustrated at the bureaucracy of the Galactic Senate, as well as the unwillingness of the Jedi Council to aid oppressed Galactic systems. The disastrous Battle of Galidraan soured him towards continued service to the Republic; the death of Jinn, his favourite Padawan, proved to be the final straw.

Unhappy with the power of the Senate and the new Chancellor, he began to think of ways to return the Jedi to their former glory. Rumors suggest that at this time he secretly studied the dark side via the Sith Holocrons in the Jedi Archives. Dooku believed that one could draw from both sides of the Force — light and dark — equally in order to achieve perfect balance. He believed that as long as he was not tempted to either side he would be able to harness the power needed to change the galaxy for the better.

It is unknown exactly how or when Dooku first came into contact with Darth Sidious (Palpatine's Sith alias), the mysterious Dark Lord of the Sith (and the Master of the late Darth Maul, who slew Jinn). However, Dooku eventually fell to the dark side and became Darth Sidious' apprentice, taking the Sith name Darth Tyranus. The two Sith Lords orchestrated the Clone Wars as part of a larger scheme to turn the Republic into the Galactic Empire. Their plan was to destroy the Jedi Order and use its remnants as the basis for a new Sith Army.

Ten years later, the Machiavellian Dooku came out of hiding, appearing on Raxus Prime and heavily criticizing the Republic and the Jedi Order for their hypocrisy and corruption. Dooku, on the orders of political mastermind Darth Sidious, publicly called for entire systems to secede from the Republic and join the Separatist movement, culminating in the formation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The first meeting of the CIS was hosted on the planet Geonosis, where Obi-Wan Kenobi was captured by the Geonosians and accused of espionage. Dooku claimed that he had no power over the decision. Cunningly, Dooku deflected suspicions of Chancellor Palpatine's involvement in the plot by simply telling Obi-Wan the truth about the conspiracy. Dooku added that the hostile Jedi would never believe such an allegation coming from him. Dooku may in fact have been trying to acquire Obi-Wan as his own apprentice, intending to wrest power from Palpatine; the Sith Rule of Two mandated that there be only two Sith Lords at any given time.

Dooku almost let go of Separatist leader Denaria Kee, but Senator Passel Argente threatened to resign if she was dismissed. Shu Mai, President of the Commerce Guild, convinced Dooku that letting go of the Corporate Alliance leaders would cost the Separatists or the CIS leaders a considerable amount of power, so Dooku let Denaria Kee stay on the CIS.

Later, when Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala arrived to rescue Obi-Wan, they were captured and sentenced to be eaten alive by large beasts in a Colosseum-style arena. However, the executions were interrupted by the sudden arrival of Jedi reinforcements, led by Jedi Master Mace Windu. Though the Jedi were overwhelmed by the new droid army of the CIS, they were soon rescued by Jedi Master Yoda, who led the very Clone Army Dooku helped create, forcing the Separatists to retreat.

Count Dooku fled to his secret hangar, but he was followed by Obi-Wan and Anakin. After injuring Obi-Wan, he engaged in a duel with Anakin, which ended when Dooku severed Anakin's right arm. Due to his Form II Makashi lightsaber combat training Dooku was the superior fighter. Before escaping, however, he was confronted by one last Jedi — his old mentor, Yoda. After a battle of Force powers, Dooku insisted on settling their contest with a lightsaber duel. Dooku used the Force to drop a crane on the wounded Obi-Wan and Anakin to distract Yoda long enough for him to make his escape. Count Dooku soon arrived on Coruscant, where he meets with Sidious and informed him that the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems were officially at war.

In the video game The Clone Wars, Count Dooku leads the army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, or the Separatist Army, as in the films. He hires Cydon Prax to replace the deceased Jango as his bodyguard. He finds the Force Harvester, an ancient Sith artifact, on Raxus Prime. He later finds the pieces, scattered by the ancient Sith, and revives an antique Sith weapon known as the Dark Reaper. The Dark Reaper was first defeated by a Jedi Knight named Ulic Qel-Droma 4,000 years before The Phantom Menace, during the Great Sith War. At the Sith Temple on Thule, it is defeated again by Anakin Skywalker.

In the video game Star Wars: The New Droid Army, a Count Dooku Clone raids the Jedi Temple Library ten months after the Battle of Geonosis. This clone oversees the Cortosis Droid project, and is killed by Anakin Skywalker on Metalorn.

During the Clone Wars, Dooku took up a few apprentices of his own, though of the non-Sith variety: Sev'rance Tann, Asajj Ventress, Durge, Tol Skorr, Kadrian Sey, and General Grievous. He also acted as the political figurehead of the CIS. Of course, even though Dooku's co-conspirators were aware that he was a Sith and a servant of Darth Sidious, they were unaware of their being mere puppets in a larger scheme. At the end of Star Wars: Clone Wars, Dooku had Grievous capture and imprison Palpatine to trick the Senate into believing he had been kidnapped, thus creating the sympathy necessary to give the Chancellor even greater emergency powers.

During the opening of the Revenge of the Sith, Anakin and Obi-Wan battle Dooku while trying to save Palpatine. Dooku has orders to kill Kenobi, allow Anakin to capture him after Dooku has defeated him, and then turn Anakin to the dark side of the Force. Palpatine has convinced Dooku that Kenobi's death will make Anakin vulnerable to the dark side. Once turned, Dooku believes, Anakin will be the perfect commanding general of his new Sith Army, built from the remnants of the Jedi Order.

Dooku is once more able to render Kenobi unconscious before being disarmed (completely, as both of his hands are severed) by Anakin. At the Chancellor's urging, Anakin uses his and Dooku's lightsabers to decapitate the Count with a crossed-lightsabers, scissor-like strike, killing him instantly. Sidious had promised Dooku that he would intervene in the unlikely event that Anakin won the duel, but unfortunately for Dooku, he only realizes Palpatine's betrayal in the moment before his death. In reality, Palpatine never intended Dooku to be the true apprentice; Dooku was merely a placeholder for Anakin and a tool for engineering the Clone Wars. Anakin would later become Darth Vader, Palpatine's third and greatest apprentice.

Lightsaber training

As a Padawan Dooku's favorite training session was lightsaber combat. His swordsmanship was uncanny even to the most revered Jedi Masters. Dooku originally studied Form IV Ataru lightsaber combat under Jedi Master Yoda. Though more practical in the Age of Blasters, the competitive spirit in Dooku drove him curiously towards mastery of Form II Makashi lightsaber combat. Form II was a concentration on lightsaber to lightsaber combat. Resentful of the needlessly rambunctious acrobatics of Form IV (which better suit a specimen like Yoda...not a human), Dooku saw Form II as the perfect rebuttal to all forms of lightsaber combat. As such, it was a more elegant, precise and classical style. The one thing that always rankled with him was the fact that, during his training, Dooku always lost to Master Yoda in mock combat. He resented the fact that Yoda would lose to obviously lesser students, but Dooku never was given such treatment. After one battle that Yoda claimed to have won before it even started, Dooku realized that he had gone into the battle expecting to lose, rather than intending to win. This realization changed Dooku's approach to his training, and made him a stronger Jedi. His mastery of Form II indeed made him arguably the greatest swordsman of the Jedi Order (second only to Yoda), who was currently the greatest swordsman in the galaxy. His superior swordsmanship assigned him to be the Order's leading instructor and principal for advanced lightsaber combat. Although being highly respected for his abilities, his pride was the cause for alarm amongst his peers, as he possessed an aggressive and competitive nature not normally seen in Jedi. His Form II mastery, paired with his exposure to Form IV, made Dooku a nearly impossible adversary to overcome. Dooku was so well versed in lightsaber combat that he could defeat opponents without the use of the Force, and even able to hold his own against two or three opponents by himself.

Though Dooku would try to pass Form II on to his apprentice Qui-Gon Jinn, his Padawan would show the same rebeliousness that Dooku himself had shown Yoda. It would be Qui-Gon's devotion to Form IV that would, as Dooku saw it, lead to his death at the hands of the Sith Lord Darth Maul.

Dooku's grasp on Form II only grew in his descent into the dark side of the Force. Athough reaching 80 standard years of his life, Dooku managed to stay in good physical condition, enabling himself to use acrobatic skills and speed which most Jedi Masters his age could not have accomplished. Using aggression more freely, Dooku would accurately (if not a little arrogantly) assume that he could finally defeat Yoda in combat. Though his victories over Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker at the Battle of Geonosis was a given due to the fact that neither Obi-Wan or Anakin were trained in the lightsaber to lightsaber combat of Form II. When he fought his former master Yoda he was still unable to overcome Yoda's overwhelming speed. Dooku had to concede to his former master. He escaped the duel and spent the next three years honing his craft.

Dooku would lose once and for all to Anakin Skywalker in a duel during the Battle of Coruscant. Old age and arrogance had caught up with the old Sith Lord. Skywalker had abandoned the passive aggression of defensive combat that had been taught by his elders, and mastered the more offensive Form V Shien/Djem So lightsaber combat. Drawing on the forsaken powers of the dark side, Anakin drew on the same dark energies that so benefited Dooku. Dooku in his own arrogance did not see that he was overmatched from the beginning. He didn't use force lightning on Anakin (like he did in the hangar on Geonosis). As Anakin locked lightsabers with Dooku, he grabbed Dooku's arms, and severed both of Dooku's hands. Palpatine then urged Anakin to finish Dooku off and while Anakin hesitated at first he gave in to Palpatine's wish. He then took Dooku's lightsaber in his left hand and decapitated him with both lightsabers. Like his padawan, Qui-Gon, Dooku was slain by far younger opponent who used the Dark Side.

In the novel his final words are to Anakin whom he advises "Beware the dark side" just before Skywalker decapitates him. Along with him went the lightsaber combat of Form II. No other Jedi even in Luke Skywalker’s time is known to still use it.

Of course years later the same thing was going to happen to Darth Vader when old age was catching up with him. He was going to be replaced by his son, Luke Skywalker. In Return Of The Jedi when Palpatine says to Luke: ”Fulfill your destiny and take your father’s place at my side.” This also shows that Palpatine was never planning on keeping either Maul, Dooku, Vader or even Luke as his apprentice for any long periods of time.

Behind the Scenes

There is a parallel between Count Dooku and the wizard Saruman in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (both of whom Lee portrayed). In both sagas, the character is a fallen hero who is seduced by power and uses deception to hide his true intentions. Both Saruman and Dooku imprison a heroic character (Gandalf the Grey and Obi-Wan Kenobi, respectively) and offer him a chance to join them. In both situations, the hero refuses and escapes. The two possess excellent oratory skills, as Saruman can use his voice to control others and is described as "honey-tongued," while Dooku leads the propaganda campaign for the Separatists. Both are servants to a greater evil (Sauron and Darth Sidious, respectively and both are masters of their particular art). In the end, Dooku is betrayed by his master. Though Sauron could easily have sent some of his limitless military forces to Saruman's aid, he declines, in effect doing the same thing as Sidious. (In the original book, Saruman works independently, though unwittingly serving Sauron through his actions; in the movies, however, their relationship is much closer.)

There is also an intentional parallel between Dooku and Anakin, as both are former Jedi who become apprentices to Darth Sidious. In addition, aside from his name, Dooku does have many similarities to Dracula (again portrayed numerous times by Lee in movie adaptations), for both are villainous, erudite and sophisticated counts who wear a cape and dress in black.

The design of Count Dooku's lightsaber is inspired by Filipino native weaponry, like the barong.

Descended from a race of fierce predators, he communicated by telepathic means, contacting all his people through the Force, rather than speaking.

Biography

Odan-Urr was trained by the ancient Jedi Master Ooroo on the planet Ossus, and was content to simply study the history of the Jedi and the Sith before being dispatched to the Koros system to aid Empress Teta in uniting Kirrek in the final battle of the Unification Wars. Together with Memit Nadill, Odan-Urr used his Battle Meditation to defeat the marauding rebels on Kirrek and bring peace to the Koros system.

While on Koros Major, Odan-Urr had a nightmarish vision of Marka Ragnos' death and the war it would begin. He was taken to Coruscant by Teta, in order to alert the Galactic Republic to the impending danger. Unfortunately, the Republic ignored Odan-Urr's vision, disregarding it as the delusion of a young and inexperienced Knight. Teta, however, was not as demeaning, and mustered her own armed forces to prepare for a Sith attack.

As the Sith attacks began, Odan-Urr joined his own Master, Ooroo, in the defense of Kirrek against Naga Sadow's Massassi forces. When the tide began turning to the Sith forces, Ooroo sacrificed himself to kill them off with the cyanogen atmosphere in which he lived. His dying words to his student were prophetic, telling the young Jedi that he would become one of the most ancient Jedi ever. Odan-Urr stood by Empress Teta's side throughout the Great Hyperspace War, and assisted in the destruction of Naga Sadow's Sith Empire.

After searching the wreckage of Sadow’s ship, Odan-Urr found the Sith Holocron and took it with him to Ossus, where he founded the Great Jedi Library. Odan-Urr later presided over the Jedi Assemblies for more than 600 years prior to the assembly on Deneba to discuss the rising Dark Side tide and the Krath. In his time on Ossus, Odan-Urr became increasingly focused on academic pursuits, but still found time to train incoming Jedi, like Nomi Sunrider. As Odan-Urr grew in experience and renown, he aided in the development of the Jedi Code.

But his possession of the dark holocron did not go unnoticed. Exar Kun infiltrated the Ossus facility, killed Odan-Urr, stole the holocron and claimed that Odan-Urr had proclaimed him a Master before his death. Appropriately, Odan-Urr died surrounded by his books.

Biography

As a young Jedi Knight, Jocasta had served as an archaeologist for the Jedi ExplorCorps and for decades after her service, she wore her lightsaber at all times, in memory of her time as an active field agent of the order.

In 52 BBY, Jocasta Nu stepped down after spending more than 10 years as member of the Jedi Council. She took up the mantle of Librarian and served as Archives Director for over 30 years. She knew Count Dooku quite well, and claimed him to be one of the greatest Jedi of all time.

During her position of Chief Librarian, she gathered a very precise and extensive knowledge of the galaxy. She often gave advice to Jedi Knights who were looking for information about the planets they were sent to on a mission. During these years, her confidence in the Archives was whole, claiming that if something is not in the Archives, then it does not exist. This statement was belied when Obi-Wan Kenobi did not find Kamino in the Archives. Thankfully to Madame Nu's experience, she immediately knew that only a Jedi Master could have accessed the files and deleted them.

During the Raid on the Jedi Temple during the Great Jedi Purge, Jocasta endeavored to save as many Younglings as possible, telling them to hide in the Council chambers. She faced Darth Vader when he invaded the temple, drawing her blue lightsaber. The Dark Lord lifted her with the Force Grip, and stabbed Jocasta through the chest after she denied access to the Temple's signal beacon, killing her instantly. Her dead body was found by Obi-Wan and Yoda when they returned to Coruscant.

Her efforts to hide the Younglings were in vain. Vader found and slaughtered every last one.

Behind the scenes

She appears in neither the movie nor the novelization of Revenge of the Sith, but her death is shown in the video game to have been by Darth Vader in the exact way it is described above.

Jocasta Nu was played by Alethea McGrath who also voiced her in the Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith video game, in which she is killed in a cut-scene by Darth Vader.

Trivia

Jocasta Nu's robes are of the Jedi Historian design, one which is similar to Atris's from Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

An Introduction to Post-Modern Black Magick: Part 1

Black magick. Voodoo & hoodoo. Pacts with the Devil & all the darkest evilest malevolence spewed forth from the bowels of Hell. Furies unleashed on your enemies. Enemies crushed like insects. The neighborhood virgin who wouldn't give you any time on any day, now she is your personal love toy. All through the power of the Lord of Flies! Now stand up from your seat, walk to the television & turn off the Vincent Price horror film you've been watching.lol Lets get real, shall we? Twisted Evil

A. Easy Enlightenment is a Lie

What I have described is the fantasy of magick. A celluloid dream that you might as well abandon now. Instead I want to discuss the reality of magick- in practice. Comparatively, you might find it all quite banal. It also involves a great deal of work spread over years of practice. This is true in all cases I know of- even the Beast Crowley practiced years before he discovered his own magical synthesis. This means, if you want to advance in magick, you must be dedicated & work with some aspect of the Great Work everyday.

B. A Definition of Magick

Quote:
"I. DEFINITION.

MAGICK is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will.

(Illustration: It is my Will to inform the World of certain facts within my knowledge. I therefore take “magical weapons”, pen, ink, and paper; I write “incantations”—these sentences—in the “magical language” i.e. that which is understood by the people I wish to instruct; I call forth “spirits”, such as printers, publishers, booksellers, and so forth, and constrain them to convey my message to those people. The composition and distribution of this book is thus an act of MAGICK by which I cause Change to take place in conformity with my Will.[1])

[1.] By “intentional” I mean “willed”. But even unintentional acts so-seeming are not truly so. Thus, breathing is an act of the Will-to-Live.

Magick in Theory and Practice

C. A Daily Series of Prayers

Below are a series of prayers written by Aleister Crowley. It follows Egyptian religion in its symbolism and the Godforms. I personally recommend this practice to the beginner as a first practice. Each prayer can be done in a minute or two, and if in public it can be performed mentally- so no one need know you are doing it. ( No reason to draw attention to yourself.) Now for those of you who believe this is easy to do, I offer you a challenge. Make yourself a time period ( 2 weeks to a month is perfect) and dedicate yourself to doing this practice four times every day without exception. This means no matter what is going on or what your sleep patterns are. You will learn how little discipline you probably actually have & how much you can have.

Hail unto Thee who art Ra in Thy rising, even unto Thee who art Ra in Thy strength, who travellest over the Heavens in Thy bark at the Uprising of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Night!

*Also at Noon, let him greet the Sun, facing South, giving the sign of his grade. And let him say in a loud voice:
Hail unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy triumphing, even unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy beauty, who travellest over the heavens in thy bark at the Mid-course of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Morning!

*Also, at Sunset, let him greet the Sun, facing West, giving the sign of his grade. And let him say in a loud voice:
Hail unto Thee who art Tum in Thy setting, even unto Thee who art Tum in Thy joy, who travellest over the Heavens in Thy bark at the Down-going of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Day!

*Lastly, at Midnight, let him greet the Sun, facing North, giving the sign of his grade, and let him say in a loud voice:
Hail unto thee who art Khephra in Thy hiding, even unto Thee who art Khephra in Thy silence, who travellest over the heavens in Thy bark at the Midnight Hour of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Evening.

*And after each of these invocations thou shalt give the sign of silence, and afterward thou shalt perform the adoration that is taught thee by thy Superior. And then do thou compose Thyself to holy meditation.

*Also it is better if in these adorations thou assume the God-form of Whom thou adorest, as if thou didst unite with Him in the adoration of That which is beyond Him.

*Thus shalt thou ever be mindful of the Great Work which thou hast undertaken to perform, and thus shalt thou be strengthened to pursue it unto the attainment of the Stone of the Wise, the Summum Bonum, True Wisdom and Perfect Happiness.

D. Trust Yourself

As anyone begins to survey the mass of occult literature, most cannot help but be overwhelmed. There are countless books with endless promises of infinite power. The sheer quantity of techniques is numerically staggering. As an ancient Sufi proverb says: "There are as many ways to God as there are human breaths." There are many ways, but which way is yours? It does not matter. Pick a way & trust yourself. If you are keeping focused and open, you will learn to feel when you are going in a direction that is not your own. You learn to trust your gut, rather than your head or heart. When you're going right, even God Herself couldn't talk you out of going on your path into Darkness.

E. An Important Distinction About Magick

A friend brought up a very important distinction. I favor a Luciferian approach to the Left Hand Path but this is far from the only LHP. Additionally, I have failed to give a clear definition on what Black Magick is to me. Simply put, Black Magick is the viewpoint that Magick has no restrictions other than what you impose upon it. Thus, Black Magick does not mean devil worship or Satanism.( Unless that is your personal path) In many rituals I use have invocations of "Infernal Powers". Keep in mind that these are not intrinsic to all magick.

F. It Is Through Will Alone That I Set My Mind In Motion

This next step may sound unimportant, but it is NOT. Get a notebook and write down everything you do involving ritual work or meditation. Include time, weather, moon phase, emotions, and anything you think of as important. Ask any practitioner of magick about this. I myself thought when I started it wasn't that significant. I was really wrong. The journal is your roadmap. When you have completed whatever ritual, then immediately write down whatever perceptions you had during the rite. You think you'll remember the details later but you won't. This is not a weakness, it is being human.

So far the only ritual work I have shown is Liber Resh: the four prayers to the Sun. There is a reason for this. It introduces you to the magick circle, elemental quarters, and projecting energy which is reinforced four times a day. It is a sort of initiation into your own will. But it is very basic.

The next step is to create a ritual magick space. I will assume the magickian has assembled basic tools according to their tradition. If you are unfamiliar with and do not have ritual tools, I recommend the following books for further detail:
I. Kraig, Donald. Modern Magick: Eleven Lessons in the High Magickal Arts (Llewellyn's High Magick Series)
II. Konstantinos. Summoning Spirits :The Art of Magical Evocation(Llewellyn's Practical Magick Series):

G. Sample Banishing Rituals

Below are four rituals both traditional and modern Luciferian/Setian adaptations.

Quote:
On the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagramby Tim Maroney
The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is one of the chief rituals of Western Magick. It has been with us at least since the Golden Dawn of the nineteenth century, and it has penetrated into all the many Golden Dawn spinoffs, including Neo-Paganism. Yet there is still no widely available, clear instruction. The directions of the magical orders are mere mnemonics for those who are assumed to have personal instructors. To formulate my personal approach to the ritual, to aid any others who may be considering practicing the LBR, and to satisfy the idle curiosity of any gawking onlookers, I have put together this short discussion of the ritual and its symbolism and performance.
A. Intent of the Ritual
The real action of a magick ritual takes place in the mind. Ritual is a form of moving meditation. The effect is also primarily psychological.* The LBR is a tool to facilitate meditation.
[*Not all players would agree with this statement. Many would say that the effect of the LBR is a fortified and cleansed area on the astral plane, which they think is as real as Hoboken, if not more so. It doesn't really matter in practice.]
The experience of a proper LBR is pleasurable and soothing, yet energizing and empowering. One is made at home in the mystical realm, protected from lurkers and phantasms by strongly imagined wards. This solace from mundane experience is a precondition for more serious works of meditation or ritual, but it can also form a healthy part of the life of the mind by itself.
B. The Ritual
I'll just reprint the description of the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram from Liber O, a publication of the occult order A.'.A.'.
Touching the forehead, say "Ateh (Unto Thee)."
Touching the breast, say Malkuth (The Kingdom)."
Touching the right shoulder, say "ve-Geburah (and the Power)."
Touching the left shoulder, say "ve-Gedulah (and the Glory),
Clasping the hands upon the breast, say "le-Olahm, Amen (To the Ages, Amen)."
Turning to the East, make a pentagram (that of Earth) with the proper weapon (usually the Wand). Say (i.e. vibrate) "IHVH" (Ye-ho-wau*).
Turning to the South, the same, but say "ADNI" (Adonai).
Turning to the West, the same, but say "AHIH" (Eheieh).
Turning to the North, the same, but say "AGLA" (Agla).
Extending the arms in the form of a cross say:
"Before me Raphael;
Behind me Gabriel;
On my right hand Michael;
On my left hand Auriel;
For about me flames the Pentagram,
And in the Column stands the six-rayed Star."
until xxi. Repeat steps (i) to (v), the "Qabalistic Cross."
[* Modern scholarship has a different take on the pronunciation of the Big Guy's name. I use "Yahweh" rather than the "Ye-ho-wau" of Liber O because that's what the Catholic priests of my youth taught me to say, and I've never been able to shake it off. Use whatever pronunciation you prefer, or a different name altogether.]
C. Politics of the Ritual
With practice, you will no doubt come up with your own style of performance, and your own different symbolism for ritual acts. Different people do rituals as differently as actors play parts, even though the lines and motions may be fundamentally the same. (The alternative is an authoritarian, dogmatic horror which is alien to the deep occult understanding of religion, but is still common in magical groups.) Slavish imitation will get you nowhere in Magick -- except, perhaps, to some high spiritual degree!
The Christianity -- or at least angelic monotheism -- of the ritual symbolism may give a start to some. Many of us involved in occultism have strongly negative feelings about Christianity. These are perhaps justified, but there are a few saving graces here.
First, as with any ritual, you should feel free to make it yours, to mess around with it. If you don't start to at least play with the styles of a ritual after a while, you are probably not doing it very well. It is perfectly legitimate to substitute cognate symbols at any time. However, the saying in the martial arts is that one first learns another's style, and after mastering it, moves on to create one's own. For a beginner, it will be easiest simply to use an existing ritual form in order to explore the meaning of a banishing ritual.
Given that experience, which transcends any mere set of symbols, one may devise a form more in keeping with the emergence of one's personal style. For instance, Neo-Pagans use a highly reified form of the same basic ritual in many of their traditions, but with non-Christian deities, spirits, and heros at the quarters. Aleister Crowley wrote a new version which made the performance more dancelike, and used the names of Thelemic deities and officers rather than monotheist gods and angels. My private version, called "Opening the Threshold", is entirely atheistic and philosophical.
In any case, of those people who so abhor Christianity, how many have looked at some of the practices of historical pagans in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas? No religion should ever be "accepted" by an occultist. When using any religion's symbolism, the adept should cut to its sacred poetical core and discard the political dross. By this standard, Christianity looks about as good as any other religion. Without this standard and by factoring in historical excesses and power plays, almost all known religions look just about as bad as Christianity.
In other words, someone who will happily use Norse gods, Arthurian heroes, Taoist immortals, Voudoun loas, or what have you in rituals, but will never touch a Christian angel, is guilty of the same narrowness he or she probably imparts to the Christians.
The Vibration of God-Names
In the LBR, the vibration of the god-names "charges" or "enlivens" the pentagrams in the air. This is difficult to describe, but easy to recognize. There is a feeling of presence in one of these charged warding images -- though not necessarily a feeling of true externality or separate intelligence. Weare told to "vibrate" the names. The description and illustration of the "vibration" given in Liber O have been known to mislead people into hilarious postures. What the picture most resembles is the skulking monster from the movie The Mummy. To the modern eye, it is remarkable how truly unclear a photograph can be. I didn't learn how to vibrate a god-name until I signed up with yet another occult order and was taught it in person. I wouldn't wish the ensuing experience on anyone, so here is a description which I hope will be adequate in print.
Vibration phase i -- The Sign of the Enterer (1-4)
1. Stand upright. Blow all the air out of your lungs. Hold your arms straight out at your sides.
2a. Close your eyes and inhale nasally, imagining that the breath is the name. The exact nature of this imagination differs from person to person. Thus, you imagine yourself inhaling the name into your lungs.
2b. As you inhale, sweep your forearms smoothly and deliberately up so that your fists rest on your temples.
3. Imagine the breath moving down through your torso slowly, and through your pelvis, your legs, and finally to the soles of your feet. (Don't do this so slowly that you are hurting for air when the name reaches your feet!)
4a. The instant the inhaled vibrational name hits the soles of your feet, imagine it rushing back up and out.
4b. Simultaneously, throw yourself forward, thrusting your left foot forward about twelve inches (or thirty centimeters) and catching yourself on it. Your hands shoot forward, together, like a diver. You bend forward at the waist so that your torso winds up parallel to the floor.
4c. The air in your lungs should be blown out through your nose at the same time, but imagine the name shooting out straight ahead.
Steps 3-4 are known as the Sign of the Enterer, or of Horus. This symbolizes powerful active energy. The Enterer should be something of a "rush". The vibrational name is projected outwards into more tangible manifestation -- in this case, in the pentagrams of the LBR, which are charged by the force of the projected god-names.
It is highly inadvisable to omit the portion of step(4b) which reads "catching yourself on it." But again, I have no desire to infringe on your freedom of choice.
Vibration phase ii -- The Sign of Silence (5)
5. Finally, withdraw into a standing position, left arm hanging at your side, right forefinger on lips, left foot pointing ninety degrees out from the body.
Step 5 is called the Sign of Silence, or of Harpocrates. This Egyptian god was mistakenly believed (at the turn of the century) to pertain to silence, because his finger or thumb was touching his lips. This gesture is now believed to be a symbol of childhood; this correction appears in the World card of Crowley's "Book of Thoth" Tarot deck. Harpocrates was the god of the Sun at dawn, and so symbolizes wonder, beauty, potential, growth. So, step 5 may be done in this academically corrected light instead.
However, the "hush" gesture of the Golden Dawn Sign of Silence is adequate for the modern occultist, even if deprived of A Divine Identification. It is a common gesture, at least in the European culture, meaning silence. Silence perhaps balances the ultra-active Sign of the Enterer better than does the more scholarly positive/active "Sign of Harpocrates the Rising Sun", and silence is surely no alien concept to mystics.
The Invocation
The pentagrams are given form by the drawing, life by the vibration, identity by the four-part prayer of steps (x) to (xiv). Some people do very elaborate visualizations of angelic guardians on each of (xi) to (xiv). Because of my tragic personal deficiencies, I am content with strong feelings of presence, identity, and divinity in each of the four directions.
A horizontal cross is built up step by step as you say, "Before me Raphael", etc, with you at the center; and the position of your arms forms a vertical cross, a renewal of the Qabalistic Cross from the start of the ritual. You may feel a quite peculiar rising and expansion when both of these crosses are formulated. One has become the center of the geometry of the space, and it is like a little world in itself, cut adrift from the mundane currents of everyday experience.
Steps (xv) and (xvi) are when the real banishing takes place, during "For about me flames the pentagram, and in the column stands the six-rayed star." A great pulse of force is emitted during these steps, imposing the personal will on the space and clearing it of all hostile influences.
After this is done, the invoked "archangels" maintain the banishing effect, guarding in all four directions. Of course this talk of angels is all bullshit -- the importance lies in the psychological effect. Whether there "really is" an archangel standing there keeping out inimical spirits is not important. The "feeling of cleanliness" is what matters.
Concluding Cross
The final Qabalistic Cross is an affirmation of the completeness and symmetry of the ritual, and also a new self-consecration. This is more efficacious than the previous Cross because it is done in a banished environment.
One is now ready to do a formal invocation, an evocation, a meditation, or whatever the overall purpose may be. The LBR is a preliminary ceremony, although it has a beneficial effect in itself. It can profitably be done as a stand-alone ritual, but you should move on. The LBR should keep away the horrible ickies that turn so many novices away from Magick. Its mastery is a first step to adeptship.

Quote:
Witches' Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagramby Paul Hume
The following text was an addendum to some Wiccan friends of mine written in 1986. It followed a fairly standard instruction in the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, with which they were not familiar. We were feeling out some linking techniques leading to a proposed joint ritual involving several Wiccans and two ceremonial qabalists (one Thelemite -- ie. myself, and another). While events conspired to torpedo this project, some interesting ideas came along on both sides. The goal was a set of brief rituals meaningful to both traditions which we could practice individually, thus building up a group current prior to the date of the proposed rite (Samhain of that year). Herewith my notes on "The Wiccan Pentagram" ritual which evolved during this project. My primary source of God Forms was Paul Huson's "Mastering Witchcraft" which was my main source of information on Wicca at the time (I've done considerable study elsewhere since).
Non-Solar symbolism
A ritual can be modified in many ways, to refit it for a different set of symbols, for example. I have taken the liberty of doing some research into alternate symbols for the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram since I know that you work a lunar-feminine current (Wicca) whereas I use more solar-masculine symbols in my current (Thelemite). The Qabalistic Cross This might be used as is, though you could use the English if you don't feel that the Hebrew is relevant. I am sure you recognize the words as being similar to the end of the Lord's Prayer in the King James Version: 'Unto thee, the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory, forever! Amen.' I would point out that this formula was around a long time before Christ, much less the translators of the Standard Revised Version of the Bible. If you dislike such a specifically Christian form, it may be replaced with the words KETHER (KEH-THER), MALKUTH, GEBURAH, GEDULAH (or Crown, Kingdom, Power, Mercy), the spheres of occult energy that you are invoking with the Q-Cross. The mental images remain the same. You could even avoid these Hebrew symbols entirely, using Names and formulae more suitable to raising the Cone of Power, which is what you are doing here in Wiccan terms. See the 'Wiccan Cross,' below.
The principle is:
Invoke strongly the presence of the Supreme Creative Principle as you conceive it (or in your case, Her) to be. Your Name for the Goddess as Creatrix would be most suitable.
Draw down power from this Godhead and project it through your body into the Earth. Invoke strongly the Supreme symbol of Creation in your Tradition: maybe the God -- as Son of the Goddess and Lord of the Trees, and as John Barleycorn, the ever-born and dying One.
Establish on your right side the Active Principle -- Yang -- the Projective Energy of the Universe. A God image, I should think.
Establish on yourleft side thePassive Principle -- Yin -- the Receiving Energy of the Universe. A Goddess force I feel.
Strongly visualize yourself at the center of these axes between the Infinities. This centers you at the middle of the Sacred Space to be created -- the still point at the center of the universe.
The Pentagrams
Again, the pentagram should be used. This symbol is universal to many, many systems of magick, including Wicca, as you know. The five-pointed star has supreme power over the Elements: Spirit, Fire, Water, Air and Earth. It drives off negative influences and attracts positive ones. It is an essential part of the rite and there is no symbol that can take its place as effectively.
The Names
I prefer using the Hebrew God-Names as is. In this connection they express formulae that govern the Elements and are no more religious than E=MC squared. However, there are equivalent Wiccan God-Names, which I describe in the next section, as substitutes for the Archangels. The use of the same Names to activate the stars and to invoke the Elemental force is quite in keeping with the Wiccan tradition, which does not use the same hierarchical system of God-Name, Archangel, Angel, Ruler, Spirit, etc. that Qabalism does.
The Archangelic Invocation
Instead of the Hebrew Archangels I described, you could use Wiccan Deities to invoke the 'pure' form of the Elements.
AIR-EAST:
The Air image in Wicca seems to be masculine and relates to Herne, the Black Man, the messenger of the Gods, or the Sky Gods: Odin, or Lugh as the rising Sun God. The God can be imagined as riding through the night sky, at the head of the Wild Hunt, or rising above the branches of the world-ash. Instead of the Sword given to Raphael, the God might carry a staff, spear or wand, which is attributed to Air in most Wiccan traditions.
FIRE-SOUTH:
The Fire image is definitely masculine and relates to the Horned God: Cernunnos, Lucifer, call Him what you will. He stands in the hot light of the noonday sun, radiating fiery energy. He would bear an Athame or sword, which is the weapon of Fire in most Wiccan styles.
WATER-WEST:
The Water image is the Maiden, the mistress of the Moon and the Tides: Aradia, Artemis, Venus rising from the waves. Her image is lit by the silver light of the moon, upon a tranquil reach of water or the foaming sea. She might hold the chalice, symbol of water (alternatively, the cauldron might be envisioned).
EARTH-NORTH:
The Goddess in Her aspect as Earth Mother is here: Hertha, Habondia, Demeter. She stands beneath the golden, life-giving sun surrounded by the fruits of the Earth. Before her, a platter flows with good things of the Earth, for the disk/shield/platter is the pentacle, magick instrument of Earth. These are only bare sketches of the magickal images that a witch might use to replace the Qabalistic images of the traditional pentagram ritual. I offer them for what they are worth.
A few points to note:
The phases of the sun used in the Archangelic images (East:Dawn; South:Noon; West:Sunset; North:Midnight) are not the same, nor are they as important to Wicca. Instead, the poles of day and night are established: Night for the East-West axis and Day for the North-South axis.
The male-female poles are established with the masculine images (Herne and Cernunnos) attributed to the active Elements (Air and Fire) and the feminine images (Aradia and Habondia) to the passive Elements (Water and Earth). Note that one figure of each gender stands in light, and one in darkness. This male-female/positive-negative/active-passive polarity is central to virtually all systems of magick, eg. the yin/yang symbol in oriental systems. I may be betraying solar-phallic tendencies by these assignments, and you may want to use different attributions: The Maiden can be Air and the Mother switch to Water, with the Hunter moving into Earth, for example. Heck, the dual God Forms should perhaps be invoked in each quarter. eg. Venus/Adonis imagery in East or South, Hertha/Herne in West, etc.
The Star Of David
The last line of the Invocation refers to a 'six-rayed star' and the mental work calls for imagining a Star of David. This is not a specifically Jewish symbol in this context. The six-pointed star, or hexagram, is the Qabalistic symbol par excellence of initiation and spiritual illumination. The upward-pointing triangle represents the aspiration of the magician to the Gods, and the downward-pointing triangle represents the divine power, flowing down to the world. These meet at the moment of magick and the interlaced triangles forming the hexagram symbolize the power of this meeting. Should you prefer not to use the Star of David, you can replace the mental image with any symbol showing the meeting of your soul and the power of the Goddess. This can even be a private symbol, one that is meaningful only to you. Alternatively, you can just envision the sphere of white light from the Q-Cross, as a symbol of divine power. Replace the words about the 'six-rayed star' with some descriptive form: 'the seal of the Goddess,' or 'the sign of my Awakening,' or simply 'the light Divine.'

Face East. Touch forehead. Say IO EVOE HERTHA ('Blessed be Hertha,' or other Name by which you worship the Goddess as Creatrix) Touch solar plexus or genitals. Say IO EVOE CERNUNNOS ('Blessed be Cernunnos,' or other name by which you worship the Horned God as the Earth) Touch right shoulder. Say EKO EKO AZARAK ('Hail, hail force of fire') Touch left shoulder. Say EKO EKO AMELAK ('Hail, hail to the glory') Extend arms in form of a cross. Say IO EVOE ('Blessed be.') Clasp hands upon breast and say 'So mote it be.'
CIRCLE OF PROTECTION
Trace pentagram in East. Say HERNE. Trace circle of protection until facing South. Trace pentagram in South. Say CERNUNNOS. Trace circle of protection until facing West. Trace pentagram in West. Say ARADIA. Trace circle of protection until facing North. Trace pentagram in North. Say HABONDIA. Finish tracing circle, closing it in the East.
INVOCATION OF THE GREAT GODS
Return to center of circle and face East. Extend arms in form of a cross. Chant:
Before me HERNE The Huntsman
Behind me ARADIA The Maiden
On my right hand CERNUNNOS, the Horned God
On my left hand HABONDIA, the Great Mother
About me flame the pentagrams
And above me shines the light of the Goddess.
Repeat the Wiccan Cross. Rather than performing this in the rather measured cadences of Qabalistic Ritual, a form of dancing and chanting more pleasing to the God-forms of Wicca might profitably be devised.

Below are the rituals I tend to use. I highly recommend anything Stephen Bleach writes. Very clear & non-dogmatic.
Quote:

The Banishing Rite of the Dark Lord All Magickal traditions teach a 'clearing' rite of some kind. Banishing rituals are not, as some ignorantly presume, to banish "evil" spirits from the magicians temple. Rather, their purpose is to remove all extraneous 'vibrations', energies, and/or mental thought forms not consistent with the aims of the magician. You are creating, with this rite, a focal point for the powers of darkness to manifest.
The inverse Pentagram of Earth is mentioned in this rite, I will provide links to material that contains all the forms of the Pentagram that you will ever need. More on this later.
I will give the bare bones of the ritual first, and then I will give the 'inner' work that must be going on within the Magician to make this rite (or indeed any other rite) effective. This is where all that practice with meditation and visualization is put to use in a ritual format. Here, summed up, are the benefits of the rite:
A method of ridding the mind of disturbing and obsessive thoughts.
Expanding the energy field of the body, while freeing it of negativity.
Cleansing the Aura of negative spiritual and emotional vibrations.
Putting the Divine spark, within, in contact with the Divine Hadit {Satan}, without.
Here now is the Banishing Rite of the Dark Lord, a revision of the Golden Dawn's "Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram" using names more congenial to Satanists:
Face any preferred direction. Visualize a bright white sphere above the head and vibrate: "AZAZEL!"
Bring down the beam of light to the genitals and vibrate: "BELIAL!"
Up to the middle of the chest, and across to the right shoulder. vibrate: "ASMODEUS!"
To left shoulder, vibrate: "ASTAROTH!"
Clasp hands at the chest, visualizing a bright red reverse pentagram upon the breast (or Hexagram of Alchemy. if known) vibrate: "BAPHOMET!" (or "BAPHO-METIS!")
Go to the West, draw a reverse Pentagram of earth.. (note: the reverse Pentagram of Earth is drawn at all four quarters) vibrate. "LEVIATHAN!"
Go to the South, draw Pentagram and vibrate, "SAMAEL!"
Go to the East draw Pentagram and vibrate, "LUCIFER!"
Go to the North, draw Pentagram and vibrate, "LILITH!"
Return to centre of temple, with eyes closed you visualize the Daemons you have invoked, and the elemental energy's flowing in from each quarter. Then say, "AROUND ME FLAME THE PENTAGRAMS, THE STAR OF FORCE AND FIRE, WITHIN MY BREAST THE ETERNAL ONE, THE INFINITE AND IMMORTAL STAR."
Repeat steps 1-5.
Explanations on the text:
Step one is self explanatory. To draw the cross of light (not the Xtian cross, let that be very clear) with your two fingers (middle and forefinger extended, other two fingers clasping thumb to palm of hand), visualize a beam of light following your finger tips to the areas of the body mentioned. The Cross is visualized as extending out to infinity. not stopping at the left or right shoulder and genitals but as an infinite line in all four directions, you! are the 'star' in the middle.
Regarding the Four Quarters (steps 6 to 9): You may change the order if you prefer. Start in the quarter that suits you best. Many Satanists start in the West. Others with a Luciferian bent may prefer to begin in the East, in which case you start with "LUCIFER!" Wherever you start, proceed anti-clockwise.
When drawing the Pentagram of Earth, it is visualized in flaming red as you draw it before you, arm outstretched (use Dagger if you have) and then stab the centre as you vibrate the Daemon's name. Visualize the Daemons as follows:
Leviathan: Before you is a great dark sea, and from it rises a huge serpent which towers over you, a vast ancient intelligence shines from its eyes.
Samael: A tall figure in hue of darkest pitch, surrounded by tongues of fire, (He is known as Samael the Black.)
Lucifer: An Hermaphrodite/Angelic figure suffused with light and wisdom, the force of which flows in to the temple.
Lilith: A tall, aggressive looking woman, wearing a long black dress, with long dark hair and eyes of fiery red, pictured against a backdrop of rocky, mostly-barren mountainside, with only patches of green here and there.
These visualizations are not written in stone, but are a stepping stone to facilitate communion. The Daemons will give you their own images peculiar to you in time.
Vibration of infernal names: Here is how to vibrate the names across the Astral planes, which summons the energies to your temple of art. When performing the cross, inhale deeply while visualizing the energy of the universe traveling through your nose, down deep into your body, through your feet deep into the centre of the Earth. When exhaling you bring it back up through your body and vibrate eg: "AAAAAAZAAAAAAAAAZEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLL!!!" while feeling the area of the body vibrating to the sound of the name. When projecting the name at the quarters, you visualize the whole area in front of you, to the ends of the universe being shaken and resonating to the sound of the names, as the power comes back (this has to be experienced to fully know what I mean here) visualize your whole body vibrating as well.
Pentagrams: Here are online copies of Crowley's Liber O and Liber V vel Reguli. Liber O has all the point-up versions of the Pentagram, and Liber V vel Reguli has all the point-down (inverse) Pentagrams needed for this work. Be careful and make sure you know which Pentagrams are which. The rituals that they are taken from are not in the same sequence as 'normal' elemental workings (Look and you will see what I mean.) For now, all I want you to do is be familiar with all the various form of the Pentagram. But don’t let this stop you reading the rest of Crowleys notes. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
As you can see, this simple rite has a lot of inner work that must be practiced to achieve the effect this rite was created for. This is only the beginning, but there is much here to digest. It is a good practice to do your Banishing rite first, and then practice the various meditations and techniques of your choice. There is a great deal more that I must comment on, but I think you have enough to go on for now.
So, practice this ritual until it is committed to memory, There is nothing wrong with using cheat notes while learning, but ideally you should soon reach a stage where this is not needed.
Of course, all rituals of this sort can be altered to accommodate Deities and Daemons of ones own tradition, but you got to start somewhere, and to give all the possible variants of this ritual would create confusion, Thus, I have given the LHP version I was taught.

Other openings

In the last lesson I gave a banishing rite which fits pretty much into a Golden Dawn style approach. Just so some of you do not think that I am biased toward High Magickal Satanic rituals, here are some other examples of openings. Those of you who are more oriented to Lavey's work and Paganism may find that these may suit you better. They still require the Magician to use visualization techniques.. Even something as simple as the ringing of the bell would be pointless unless the Magician is busy visualizing the bell removing extraneous vibrations and influences.. Let it be said though, that I personally feel the 'Banishing of the Dark Lord' with all its various technique, is second to none in developing Magickal abilityies. Enough said.
Other possible openings:
Simply by ringing a bell in each of the four quarters while visualizing the noise of the bell removing extraneous vibes.
An opening using the four Elements:
Place a handful of rock salt into your chalice, cup hands over-the chalice and visualize a dim bluish light-hovering over the contents.say: "IN THE NAME OF BELIAL, LORD OF EARTH AND LEVIATHAN, LORD OF THE SEAS, I BLESS THIS WATER IN THY NAME!" Sprinkle the area widdershins three times.
Likewise cup hands over the incense and visualize a dim blue light hovering it.say: "IN THE NAME OF LUCIFER, LORD OF AIR, I BLESS THIS PERFUME IN THY NAME." Cleanse the area widdershins three times.
Finally cup your hands over the candle flame, visualizing the same blue light.say: "SATAN LORD OF FIRE, I BLESS THIS FLAME IN THY NAME." again move around the area widdershins three times.

The Infernal Middle Pillar

The 'Infernal Middle Pillar' is a dynamic technique of stimulating the energy centres of the body.
This ritual has its origins with the Golden Dawn. It was felt, however, that the use of Hebrew names of power were not suitable for the Left Hand Path in all situations, so this version was devised. It has since become a favorite with Satanists that I have taught it to, and in some cases has replaced the original version altogether..for those of you unfamiliar with such rituals, it is the Western Magickal version of the eastern system of working with the subtle energy systems of the body.
The eastern system of working with the base chakra first and raising the 'kundalini' up through the energy centres to the crown chakra is advisable only under the guidance of an experienced Yoga master in most cases, as some of the techniques can be dangerous. The reason for this is that the energy in the base chakra is raw sexual energy, which is the psycho-spiritual equivalent of nitro glycerin. If the energy passes up to quickly through the chakras, and somehow gets stuck at one of the centres, it can cause obsessions, neurosis, or emotional imbalance. If the energy manages to blast its way through all the energy centers to the crown chakra. one may indeed receive 'enlightenment' or insanity, depending on individual responses.
The Middle Pillar ritual starts from the top (crown) and works-down through the centres and earths the energy (completes the circuit) at the feet. Since we start from the 'divine' energy sphere and draw the energy down through the centres, each one is purified and activated in a gentle and gradual way. Do not make the error of assuming that it is not potent, however. If performed correctly, it is very powerful. I had a student who was not quite himself at the time he performed this rite, and he collapsed! so another thing to be aware of is, one must be in good health when doing rites such as these, if you are uncertain of things such as heart, respiratory, and blood pressure etc, a trip to your doctor may be in order.
The benefits of the Middle Pillar are:
Activating the 'divine source'(micro) within so as to begin uniting the microcosm with the macrocosm -- or Chaos, the limitless light, the All, the No-thing.
The throat chakra is activated, which also is visualized extending up to the third eye (the psychic awareness center). This symbolizes 'communication' with the divine, which at the same time will hopefully reveal the many false illusionary thoughts we have regarding 'reality' and begin opening our psychic senses.
The third centre which covers the heart and solar plexus, when activated, begins modifying and balancing the emotions and feelings.
The fourth centre covers the pelvic and base chakras, and, when activated, releases the psycho-sexual energy, which can be used for Magick, charging Talismans, healing, Tantric Work, Invocations, and so on.
The fifth centre is at the feet. When activated, it earths the energies brought down and acts as an anchor for them, thereby stabilizing body and soul.
The Middle Pillar represents just that, the central pillar on the Kabbalisitic Tree of Life. (See reading list.)
Here is the Infernal Middle Pillar Ritual:
Perform the Banishing Rite of the Dark Lord, or other opening.
Visualize a bright sphere above the head (The thousand petaled lotus is one name given to this, thus it is viewed as brilliant white light)
Vibrate "SATAN!" three or four times. Then imagine a shaft of white light descending down from the sphere, through your head to the nape of the neck where it widens into a sphere of light.
Vibrate "CHORONZON!" three or four times (sphere is extended up and over the third eye).Visualize the shaft of light descending to the Solar plexus area, where it expands into another sphere of light.
Vibrate "LUCIFER!" Three or four times. then again see the beam descend to the genital area, where it expands into another sphere of light.
Vibrate "LILITH!" Three or four times. Finally the beam descends to the feet, to the final centre, as the sphere expands see it extending over your feet and under the earth.
Vibrate "BELIAL!" Three or four times.. stand for a while and 'feel' the effects on your energy system, most students find that this dynamic way of working with the energy centres brings immediate results.
After about six months of doing this ritual, you may begin to experience unusual phenomena. This is because you have been working with and activating previously unused energy centres. You may experience small or large floating lights. You may even have the occasional manifestation of astral entities. But I must stress that these phenomena are all harmless. They are only manifestations of the fact that you have been awakening your Astral senses. In the next lesson I will be giving you techniques of moving the energy that you have been activating with this ritual.
For those of you that are serious about cultivating magickal power a good format for daily practice would be as follows:
Perform the Banishing of the Dark lord (or an opening of your choice)
The Infernal Middle Pillar.
Meditation and visualization exercises of your choice.

The Circulation of Light

The above rituals need to be practiced and some proficiency gained in them before this next step of 'circulating the body's energy' is attempted. It should be obvious that the ritual of the Infernal Pillar opens the chakras within the body of the Satanist, this has many uses, When some measure of expertise is reached with this ritual, you will be able to focus this energy to do many things. But for now I will simply give you some techniques which begin to move the body's energy field in various ways under the control and direction of the mind.
The ritual of the Infernal Pillar opens the psycho-spiritual centres of the body, to allow the energies that are around us to be able to flow in and out of the body. The benefits of which are many. When one begins to activate the centres over the months, they open up- and allow the emotions and feelings that are unbalanced to become focused and still. You are then less inclined to extremes of emotion, your thoughts become more tranquil, your whole being begins to centre itself.
The harnessing of this energy is very important to your development. It is the power needed to direct your will for things such as Invocation, evocation, spell casting ,(and general good health) also when it comes to Tantric Magick, its perfecting is indispensable. These rituals given so far are used to contact ones inner Daemon as well. so there mastery is well worth your time.
Exercise one: After completing the Infernal Pillar, direct your attention to the sphere above your head. With your arms by your side, take a deep breath. Now as you slowly exhale, imagine the light descending down to your left shoulder, and then down the length of the whole side of your body. As it touches your feet, inhale, drawing the light across to the other foot, up the full length of the right side of the body and back to the sphere above the head. Repeat three times.
Exercise two: Again, synchronizing the breath, move the light, but this time from the sphere in a circular motion, down out from the body, under the feet and back up to the Crown. Repeat three times.
Exercise three: Synchronize your breath as in exercises one and two, draw the energy down from the sphere, over the front of the body, under the feet and up the back, back to Crown. Repeat three times.
Exercise four: Visualize a shaft of light from the Crown,(inhale) draw the energy down through the body where it comes to rest at the Earth sphere filling it with light. (Exhale as you bring the energy down.)
Now visualize the energy curling up in a spiral (inhale) to the front left leg. It continues to move in a counter clockwise spiral, wrapping you like an Egyptian Mummy in light.
Continue up until you reach the Crown, then visualize the energy exploding like a fountain out of the Crown Chakra falling around you cleansing the body's energy field, and finally descending to the Earth centre where it fills up again.
Repeat this three times.

Temples and altars

I have briefly touched upon this subject in the Pyramid discourse, but feel a few words on this will help the student create a space according to what is practical for the individual. Occult orders whether Pagan or ceremonial, often have very dogmatic ideas of what constitutes an appropiate working space..The Chaos Magick current has helped to overcome much of the, 'this is the correct way to do it' school of thought, that was part of the Osirian dogmatism of RHP magickal philosophy.
All you need to perform any of the exercises in these documents is, a small area of living space which is private and removed from the company of others atthe time of working your magic. If you have your own bedroom. so much the better. If you have a house or flat and you have one unused room, good for you, you may desire to go the whole hog and turn it into a fully fledged temple.
All the Satanist needs, apart from a small private area, is something known as an altar.. if you have a rectangular coffee table, you may perhaps use that. If you have some black material to put over the table great! All you need now is a couple of Black Candles and we are away. Incense is also a good idea. Use as good a quality one as you can afford. This would be a bare minimum example of a temple/altar.
What the above is really saying is that the most importent thing is not waiting until you have a perfect enviroment to practice Magick, otherwise you will never get around to doing it. Of course later you can start to add things here and there, until you reach the ideal temple for you.. Lavish or moderate, its not the issue. What occurs in the space is what really matters.
Most Magicians still use symbols for the four elements and perhaps a lamp for spirit. The Reading list has many examples of temples (Wiccan, Golden Dawn, Thelemic, Chaos) It is a good idea to read a few and see the way each group approaches this subject. And then just design your Temple how you want too. Many Satanists have a banner in one of the four quaters. The guild uses an inverse red Pentagram on a black background.

Left Hand Path Banishing
A Simple Banishing for LHP Workings
By Dead Jellyfish
(http://www.chaosmagic.com/archives/banishings/left-hand-path-banishing.shtml)
Here is a very simple banishing that I use before doing workings of a Left Hand Path nature. It helps the magickian enter a state of mind conducive to Left Hand Path workings.
1. Starting from the south, draw a sphere around yourself counter clockwise, with your left hand while visualizing the sphere in a colour of your choice.
2. Ring a bell nine times. A tuning fork also works very well. Note: when this banishing is used at the end of a ritual, the bell should be rung at the end instead.
3. Face the South. Take one step forward with your left foot and draw an inverted pentagram in the air with your left hand and say boldly the following:
"I call forth Satan who brought the Promethean gift of the apple." (Visualize the serpent offering you the apple of gnosis).
4. Turn towards the East. Take one step forward with your left foot and draw an inverted pentagram in the air with your left hand and say the following:
"I call forth Lucifer, the bringer of Light and Knowledge." (Visualize Lucifer rising, brilliant and triumphant)
5. Turn towards the North. Take one step forward with your left foot and draw an inverted pentagram in the air with your left hand and say the following:
"I call forth Belial, he who has no master." (Visualize a powerful demon who bows before no God but himself)
6. Turn towards the West. Take one step forward with your left foot and draw an inverted pentagram in the air with your left hand and say the following:
"I call forth Leviathan, the crocodile of the deep, the carnal animal of Chaos." (Visualize a crocodile with the eyes of a dragon)
7. Return to center of the sphere. Now you will invoke Set. (This part is should be skipped when this banishing is used at the end of a ritual.)
"I invoke Set, who nightly slays Apep. By destroying the imp of Chaos, I create freedom for myself. I have the freedom to create any order I desire for myself, and I have the freedom to destroy it. I have the power to change at Will, and through change I can Become."
8. Re-enforce the sphere by standing motionless in quiet meditation until gnosis is reached.
9. Laughter.

H. Generating Energy

Whichever ritual you use*. all involve that you project your energy. Here is my advice on how to make a banishing ritual really work. As you breathe in, visual your breath going down into your lungs. It then descends further until it reaches your feet. At the same time, know that you are pulling in the energy of the God-name. Also while you breathe in, slowly draw your hands up along the side of your body until your hands are positioned alongside the temples of your head.
At this point, you are to step forward with your left foot and shoot your hands forward to the center of the pentagram. All the official texts tell you this but not how to make it work. The key is simple. Use your passion. Project everything you have into that pentagram. Nothing else is real but projecting all energy in that exhaling breath as you vibrate the name. Vibrate until you have no breath left. When you breathe in, you return to your position & you will be refilled with energy. So the rule is: Perform any ritual you do like your life depends on it. Because one day it might. Very Happy

What I have tried to elaborate is a daily routine for laying a foundation in ritual work. I have a firm belief in daily work being more important than inconsistent grand rituals. Obviously, my approach to the dark arts reflects this.

Quote:
Elemental Purification Breaths
From the Native Middle Eastern Sufi tradition as originally taught by Pir-o-Murshid
Hazrat Inayat Khan. This interpretation with body awareness attunements by Neil
Douglas-Klotz (Murshid Saadi Shakur Chishti).
EARTH: Inhale nose, exhale nose. Focus on rootedness, the feeling of support of the
earth through the bones and ligaments. Standing, siting, lying or walking, ask inside:
“how do I feel my support? Could I feel more supported anywhere?” Release
“burdens,” let the earth support. Honor all creation by feeling the bones of our
ancestors, upon which we walk. Feel the first awareness in the cosmos of
“underneath,” the first self or particle. Through this, the earth becomes more
conscious of itself through us.
WATER: Inhale nose, exhale mouth. A spring rises from the depths and is drawn up
through you to the top, then showers down, over and through all the muscles,
connective and digestive tissue--anywhere more flexibility is needed. Stretch and
move into any areas of tightness. Consider: “how could I allow more flowingness to
be felt there, less holding on?” Honor the water by feeling it return to its source with
purity. Feel the first awareness in the cosmos of flow. Through this, the water
becomes more conscious of itself through us.
FIRE: Inhale mouth, exhale nose. Awaken the heart-lungs area, feeling the inhalation
loosening the solar plexus/diaphragm and the exhalation invigorating the heart.
Notice the pulsation of your heart and blood, bringing the old to the heart to be
released and carrying the new to all parts of the body. Consider your own sense of
purpose: “towards what am I pulsing? What gets my blood moving?” Honor the fire
by using it properly--to clarify, not destroy. Feel the first pulse that began the cosmos
in you. Through this, the fire becomes more conscious of itself through us.
AIR: Inhale mouth, exhale mouth (all refined). Feel air passing over and as if through
you. Allow the pores to open and feel the whole envelope of skin with just air inside
and outside. Consider: “how could I feel more lightness and freedom in my being,
more ability to change?” Honor the air by moving with it to communicate the child
within to all creation. The skin comes from the same developmental layer of the
embryo as the brain. Feel the skin open to healthy touch, organizing a new, more free
sense of self. Feel the first breath of the cosmos. Through this, the air becomes more
conscious of itself through us.
ETHER: Inhale and exhale all the elements together for a few breaths (refined, yet
deep or in and out through nose or through nose and mouth together), feeling fully
embodied. Breath becomes your own natural breath, like all of the colours of the
rainbow. The combination of all the elements is more than the sum of their parts.
Through this breath, nature becomes conscious of itself through you. Allow some of
this breath to go wherever needed, into your life as it comes today, anywhere in the
earth that a breath of harmony and remembrance of right relationship can be used.
Gradually allow all of the elements to return to their source: their individuality
disappears in lucidity, like the rainbow disappearing into clear light.
To conclude take a few breaths in and out feeling “Toward the One” with a feeling of
unity in the heart. If done in the morning, consider what you need to do this day. Ask
for any clarity and understanding that you need. “We thank the elements and we
thank their Source.” Ament. Amen. Ameyn. Amin: “May this sense of connection
be the ground from which our new growth will spring.”
