The Eight Brain Model
Cosmic Consciousness in eight easy steps
I first came across the eight circuit or "8 brain model" while reading Robert Anton Wilson's The Illuminati Papers. Wilson had in turn credited Timothy Leary, Ph.D. for creating this model/tool for understanding the human nervous system. There is evidence that suggests Leary received this information in the form of an obscure manuscript, penned by a Tantric Yoga Master in India, from a certain "Professor Adams".
Understanding and use of this model assumes that the mind/brain consists of the entire nervous, lymph and circulatory system within the earthling body. Physiological as well as emotional attributes are contained within this system. Each individual circuit represents a major behavior mode or center of consciousness, from basic survival instinct to extra-sensory perception and beyond. The lower circuits model mundane human behaviors, while the higher circuits model a framework that transcends time and space. It is important to realize that this transcendence of space/time is available to all earthlings at any moment by means of imagination.
Each of the eight circuits may be visualized as corresponding to the "Chakra" system taught by Hindu schools of thought. Imagine eight subtle spiraling wheels of energy, one above the other, tethered by a translucent chord of life-force or "chi". Circuit one through seven line up with the seven chakras localized in the earthling body. Circuit one equates to the "Muladhara" or base chakra, and so on. Although each circuit does not correspond exactly with the eastern teachings for each chakra, the analogy is a useful one for locating each of the first seven circuits within the earthling body. Circuit eight is non-local.

"Temporal" Consciousness
Circuits one through Four
As the earthling baby develops, each circuit becomes active in succession. Circuits one through four are inherent in every earthling and function automatically according to the DNA blueprint. They are "temporal" in the sense that they are consensual to all earthlings and obey the agreed upon laws of physics. Each circuit activates or is activated by a basic stage of development. Circuit one at birth... Circuit two as the toddler begins to walk... Circuit three as the child develops speech... And circuit four at puberty.
Circuit one
Infant - Nourishment survival Brain. Imprinted on Mother.
After the incredible journey of being born, the earthling baby has earned the bliss of cuddling in his/her mothers arms. Automated survival instincts of suckling and clinging to mother's breast activate. This reality is primarily 2-Dimentional, wherein the babies surroundings are less important beyond being loved, safe and warm.
Circuit two
Toddler - Locomotion political Brain. 3-D (space)
When a toddler gets his/her wheels (learns to walk), he/she becomes a full fledged member of the clan. Circuit two activates mastery of one's dexterity and the manipulation (both physically and politically) of one's surroundings. The phenomena known as the terrible twos is a result of circuit two development.
Circuit three
Child - Language past/present/future conceptual Brain. 4-D (time)
As the child masters locomotion and politics, circuit three activates the ability to conceptualize and use tools/artifacts. The most intricate and powerful artifact is language. The ability to communicate in a sophisticated manner allows access to the clans available knowledge. Peer group activity becomes the paramount re-enforcement signal. Mastery of the concept of time allows the ability to reflect and predict.
Circuit four
Adolescent - Puberty and sexual-emotional Brain. (Heart)
Circuit four is triggered through hormonal activation. These emotion-chemicals mutate the body into the adult form. As the earthling body transforms, alarming and dramatic emotional changes occur. Not to worry... These physical and emotional outbursts are actually quite normal. They are necessary exercises in opening the fourth or "Heart" circuit.
"Meta" Consciousness
Circuits Five through Eight
As the earthling enters adulthood, the potential for the activation of circuits five through eight become available. These circuits are of a increasingly transcendental nature. Where circuit one through four are said to be analytical in nature, circuits five through eight are intuitive and psychedelic in nature.
Circuit five
Ecstatic Brain. Imprinted by peak experiences. Non-ordinary reality... Being "High"
Circuit five is activated by repeated and consistent application of various highly sophisticated technologies developed by ancient earthling initiates. These practices take many forms to appeal to a wide audience. Athletics, Drama, Literature, Meditation and Music are a few examples of such technologies. As a earthling excels in any of these yogas, they achieve a state of concentration and skill that produces an ecstatic or euphoric sensation within the body/mind. The resulting elevated sense of well being and comprehension (being high) insures repeated practice.
Note: There are certain entheogenic shortcuts or yogas that have been used since antiquity, but the use of these or any other shortcut is of questionable value.
Circuit six
Meta-programming Brain. Thinking about thinking. Re-programming old imprints. Reality selection.
Circuit six is associated with so called psi phenomena such as pre-cognition and telepathic ability. Modern physics describes all matter as vibratory in nature. In interpersonal communication, the implementation of circuit six is perceived by earthlings as "picking up on the vibes" of another individual. In the old days we used to call this being in tune with one's bio-rhythems.
The implementation phase of circuit six may be thought of as creative reality selection or meta-programming as described Dr. John C. Lilly, M.D. in his book Programming and Metaprogramming in the Human Biocomputer. The ability to redesign one's reality is known as the Art of Magick in certain circles (no pun intended). The basic concept is that if one has focus and technique, one can re-define the way one sees and interacts with universe.
Circuit seven
Collective unconscious Brain. Species wisdom retrieval.
Here is where we tap into the earthling collective... past, present and future. Circuit seven is the collective unconscious mind/brain of Dr. Carl Jung. It is believed by science that all of humanity's evolutionary history is archived within the double helix of our DNA. This information may be accessed through circuit seven activation. Reincarnation and past life regression may be alternative interpretations of aspects of a fully functional circuit seven.
Returning to the chakra analogy, circuit seven is analogous to the Sahasrara, or crown chakra... the thousand petalled lotus flower. This energy vortex is the highest circuit within the earthling body. This circuit is in direct communication with universe, which is visualized as a eighth circuit elevated above the earthling's head.
Circuit eight
Galactic Brain/mind. Non local access to universal matrix.
Contact. The ability for earthlings to be in communication with non-local (other worldly) intelligence has been recorded since the dawn of time. Out of body experience, cosmic consciousness, communion... there are many interpretations. One of the greatest and least offensive verbs used to describe this phenomena is inspiration. To be inspired is arguably the very basis for all human creativity and cultural development.
It is important to note that although the eight circuits are described above as being activated sequentially, any or all circuits may be activated at any time. Each earthling is unique, as is each earthling's life experiences. Anything can happen. Trauma, sever physical exertion, as well as natural tendencies may spontaneously trigger any circuit. That's just the way life is.
Useful correlations
Circuits One through Four = Left Hemisphere analytical thinking.
Circuits Five through Eight = Right Hemisphere creative thinking.
Eight circuits = Octave musical scale.
8 circuits x 8 (Will or self-programming) = 64 possibilities.

Strange SW things
Ashka Boda was a Jedi Master during the Clone Wars. A human male, he kept in his possession a Holocron created by Vodo-Siosk Baas. When Count Dooku went to the Gree Enclave to purchase the solar sails for his Solar Sailer, reports of his presence in the Enclave reached the Jedibut only after Dooku's departure from the Gree worlds. Ashka Boda and fellow Jedi Master Jabidus Inspra led an investigative taskforce of five Jedi from the Jedi Temple into the Enclave to discover why Dooku had been there.
In his old age, Boda was captured during the latter stages of the Jedi Purge by Imperial sentinelstheir first appearance away from Byss. The sentinels took Boda to Imperial Center; there, Palpatine murdered Boda and took possession of his Holocron. Palpatine used the information in the Holocron to help create The Book of Anger.

Ashka Boda

Ashka Boda was a Jedi Knight during the time Emperor Palpatine was effecting to take over the galaxy. Ashka Boda proved to be of particular interest among Emperor Palpatine for what he held in his possession, a Jedi holocron. This holocron was constructed by Bodo Baas, descendent of the legendary Vodo-Siosk Baas, and a group of Jedi in the Adega System about six hundred years prior.
Passed along from Jedi to Jedi, it soon came into the hands of Ashka Boda, its new keeper. During the Jedi Purge, although Ashka made an attempt to hide from the Emperor, he was eventually discovered and captured. Emperor Palpatine, a merciless Dark Lord deep in the Dark Side showed no mercy. Ashka Boda was killed and the holocron was stolen, to join others stolen by Emperor Palpatine from other fallen Knights that had become one with the Force.

Harmony
Harmony is best described when thinking about it simply. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of the word is music. When music is in harmony, it is one of the most expressive tools in the world. A few breaths and finger strokes can bring you from elation to devastation and back again. This is why so many films incorporate music in important plot points because it is easier to get the right reaction out of the audience with music than it is with the actors words. However, if a musician were to slip up and miss a few notes, the harmony would be lost. When that happens, not only does the audience lose their feeling, but they probably also feel a bit of discomfort or annoyance at the problem. The harmony of music is similar to the harmony of the Shadows. Harmony is the Shadows relationship with what some might call the "Living Force." Where much of Shadow philosophy often involves practicality and observation, harmony is where the spirit of the Shadow lies. When a Shadow is in harmony with the Force, he completely immerses himself into everything that is life. In order to achieve many of his goals, a Shadow must be humble and realize that he is not that significant in the scheme of things. Dont be afraid of this insignificance. Take solace in your harmony with the Force, and let it nourish you and give you happiness. Because harmony is a way of life that involves a lot of blind faith and acceptance, it can easily become discord.
Balance
That is where balance comes in. Balance is what makes harmony possible for the ever observant Shadows; it is like a step back to keep an eye on our harmony. Not only is balance a step back, but it also reinforces the Shadows harmony with the Force. When harmony can be seen as the unconscious, balance is our conscious decisions. It can usually be broken up into internal and external balance. Internal balance is to be at peace with the self. When we are internally balanced, we realize and understand our emotions and use them to our benefit. External balance deals with the world around you. When externally balanced, we understand the social structures around us and see how each life form fits into the structure. Unfortunately, balance can be fudged, and it is done so by many individuals, some very well intentioned. This starts when for some reason or another, we lose our harmony. This can cause some to panic, creating their own artificial balance to try to bring the harmony back into their lives. To understand this, you may want to think of the left to right political scale. When politicians are labeled as too far left or right, they try to remedy that by making bland statements that supposedly appeal to the other party. They say these things to try to appeal to the "swing voters," but it does not change who they are, and everyone knows that.
Duality
After reading of harmony and balance, you may be wondering how such a thing as duality could be incorporated. Well, when dealing with topics of such a grand scale as the Force and Shadow, it is necessary to break things down to have any chance of understanding. Duality can usually be described as polarizations of an idea or entity. We use these polarizations to give us a general idea of the extremes related to our universal topic. A Shadow must not only understand that there are dual ideas to many questions, but we must understand what the dual ideas mean and their significance. It is not very useful to simply say there is internal balance. One must actually understand what internal balance is if the dualism is to succeed. Common ideas in duality are good and evil, light and dark, and internal and external. When we finally understand all of these dual conceptions, we can transcend into a new universal realm of understanding. This is why many Shadows will tell you that there are no sides to the Force. This does not mean that we drop our understanding of the dual natures. It simply means that we look beyond the limitations and put things together into a whole. Then we break it up again.

The most advanced shamanic techniques - such as Tibetan Tantra or Crowley's system in the west - work by alternating faith and skepticism until you get beyond the ordinary limits of both. With such systems, one learns how arbitrary are the reality maps that can be coded into laryngeal grunts by hominids or visualized by a mammalian nervous system. We can't even visualize the size of the local galaxy except in special high states. Most people are trapped in one static reality map imprinted on their neurons when they were naive children, as Dr. Leary keeps reminding us. Alas, most so-called "adepts" or "gurus" are similarly trapped in the first postrapture reality map imprinted after their initial Illumination, as Leary also realizes. The point of systems like Tantra, Crowleyanity, and Leary's Neurologic is to detach from all maps - which gives you the freedom to use any map where it works and drop it where it doesn't work. As Dogen Zenji said, "Time is three eyes and eight elbows."
Was Crowley a Satanist? Well, he could and did play the Satanist game on occasion, just as he played the Buddhist game, the Taoist game, the Hindu game, the atheist game, and lots of others. It is emphatically not true that his reputation as Satanist and Black Magician was spread entirely by his enemies; he collaborated gleefully in blackening his own character. To understand his motives, you must first understand the role of terror in reimprinting the nervous system for higher, post-terrestrial functioning. Aside from yoga and psychedelic drugs, the only method for reimprinting the nervous system is shock, especially near-death trauma. Most shamans are people who have gone through the death-rebirth process, just as in our own society you still find people who have passed through "clinical death," got revived on the operating table, and came back raving about transtime perspectives and beings of purelight. Crowley knew, as many shamans do, that you can get this result (shock and reimprint) quickly with some students by simply scaring the daylights out of them. A classic gimmick is to steadily increased their (repressed) suspicion that the beloved guru, in whom they have stupidly placed blind faith and love, is actually a diabolist out to destroy them, drive them made, or enslave them. Crowley used this technique often. The students who confront their fear and conquer it achieve a higher neurological awareness.

The Old Absinthe Bar in New Orleans (located at 400 Bourbon Street) was rumored to have been the set-up or at least the inspiration for the cover scenes of _In Through the Out Door_. Led Zeppelin was known to be fond of New Orleans French Quarter. Crowley also held a certain fondness for the Old Absinthe House as he recalls, "I took a room convieniently close to the Old Absinthe House, where one could get real absinthe prepared in fountains whose marble was worn by 90 years continual dripping." The Old Absinthe House inspired Aleister Crowleys essay "The Green Goddess". Today, if you go to the Old Absinthe Bar there is a picture on the wall of Jimmy and his ex-wife, supposedly accompanied by a story of how they met there.
