Semaphore has moved, and our new home can be found at www.semaphoremagazine.com!

The March 2008 issue is now online both here and on our Lulu.com storefront. A bit late - technology strikes again, I'm afraid. This issue features a story by one of my favourite fantasy authors, Sherwood Smith. Look out for more of her work in our Semaphore Recommends page, which should be up within the week.

Just a quick announcement, now that the March issue is almost here. The team here at Semaphore is growing - there are now three of us on the editing staff! Any submissions received for the June issue onwards will now be reviewed thrice over and accepted or rejected by majority rule, rather than in the previous, rather autocratic fashion.

All print copies of the first issue have been sold, and the profits will go towards another print run of a future issue. Unfortunately it will not be the upcoming one, as the net profit just fell short of the cost for a similar run. Issue 2 will only be available as a PDF.
Submissions for the March issue close in a few days; get your work in now!

The print edition of Semaphore's first issue will be back from the printers tomorrow. There are ten copies available for purchase, and five have already been pre-ordered, so that means there are only five left! The cost is $NZ15.00 plus postage to wherever in the world it needs to be sent. Email Marie to make an order.

Well, I'm a fair way into the reading period for the first issue, and I have to say that I'm not looking forward to sending out letters when I'm done. I've received a great many exciting pieces of work since September, but there's a limit to how much I can afford to publish, and I must say that I already regret the fact that I will have to send out rejection slips alongside acceptances.
In other news, the print run of the debut issue has been lifted to 30 copies. The additional 10 copies have been ordered by my mother :D Exciting, no? Now all the relatives will know what I've been up to in my spare time...
A final note: as thanks for OUSA's support in funding this print edition, a certain percentage of the content of Semaphore Quarterly will now be filled, when possible, with work submitted by OUSA members. If you are a member of OUSA, please note this when sending us your submission.

Hoorah! OUSA approved my grant application, and I will now be able to fund a limited edition print version of the debut issue of Semaphore. There will only be twenty copies made of this celebratory edition: most of them will be distributed freely to libraries and school around the Dunedin ares (and one to Christchurch, by special request), but there will be several available for purchase.

With a little luck - and by luck I mean money - we'll be able to celebrate our first issue this December by printing a limited edition run of the issue! I'm seeking sponsorship for this move from OUSA, the Otago University Students' Association, and will be stating my case at five o'clock this Thursday.

Hi, everyone! With there still being 45 days left until submissions close for our debut issue there isn't a lot of pressing news on the table, but I thought I might take this chance to remind you of some new developments here.
As those of you who are familiar with the side-bar and its contents will know, you can now buy advertising space in our Quarterly issue. This is a great opportunity for those of you who have projects on the go that would benefit from just that wee bit more publicity - by advertising with us you will reach people whose interests range from reading and writing to computer games and target shooting to badminton. And you just know that those badminton players are going to want to know about your stuff.
Furthermore, to celebrate our debut issue, we are offering a 30% discount on all advertisements for our December Quarterly. That means that you can advertise your website, work or current project for as little as $5.25!*
