This house is just 4 blocks from 80/94 THE major east/west corridor to Chicago.  Door to door, we are located just 25 miles southeast of the Loop! Just 8 miles from the lakefront, including Whihala County Park/Lakeshore and Horseshoe Casino.  There are two commuter train stations to choose from to reach Chicago, both within 6 miles as well as an Amtrak Station.  Plus, Purdue University Calumet (www.calumet.purdue.edu) is just 6 minutes from my door.  Indiana University Northwest is just about 20 minutes to the east of here.  There is also a Catholic private college, Calumet College of St. Joseph, as well as a business college, Sawyer, very close by. All the shopping you could want:  Wal-Mart, Target, malls, 4 grocery stores within about 5 miles, plus clinics, two hospitals and other conveniences.  My kids have grown up in the two schools noted above, and I have been very active in both.  The administrations are exemplary.  The street I live on is quiet (only 6 houses on one side, 2 on the other) and tree-lined, and only 4 blocks long.

A copy of the appraisal from January, 2004 will be available to look at if you come to see the house.  Sellers disclosure and other legal documents also available.

I am selling this home "as is".  Some may consider it a fixer-upper, but really all it needs are some cosmetic improvements and a new furnace.

A little history: We moved into this house March 17, 1990. At first all we did was paint the bedrooms, which were very, very dated (think brown and silver metallic wallpaper!)  Eventually, we repainted or remodeled every room.

So why am I selling? Mainly because, being a single parent, I have come to the realization that though I have fought long and hard to keep this house, it's just getting to be too much.  Financially I cannot keep up with the maintenance of the house and the pool.

I have loved and fought very hard to keep this house.  Being divorced in 1994, I have tried for just over 10 years (it was actually signed over to me in 1993) to do everything in my power and anything I could think of to stay here.  I have been through a $6000 pay cut, a company moving and being laid off and any other number of trials and still managed to make my house payments simply because of my feelings for this house.

This house was assessed at $114,900., which is what the property taxes will be based on.  And I believe that is a fair assessment.  When I refinanced my current mortgage just this past March, the Market Value Appraisal was $123,000. (Appraisal available to view) The listing price is $123,000.

Throughout the rest of this site, I will post pictures of the various rooms of the house with a little commentary of anything I've done to upgrade since I moved in.  Too bad the pictures we took before we moved in 14 years ago hadn't gotten wet and ruined! (left out in the rain after a pool party one time) Then you could really see the changes to the inside!

I hope you enjoy my little virtual-tour and if you know anyone who is looking to buy a home, you will let me know!  Thanks for stopping by!  Contact me at kh7463@sbcglobal.net   Please put "your house website" in the subject line, so I can make sure it doesn't go to junk mail!

Here's a few more views of the house:

Below are some photos of the front of the house, as you approach from the street.  The street I live on is great.  I have some wonderful neighbors, although there are some new ones that I haven't gotten to know as well as I'd like.  It's a quiet street, which dead ends about 4 blocks to the west.  There are only 6 houses on my side of the street, with an alley directly across from me and two houses on the other side.  All the homes and properties are well maintained.  I may add some photos of the block a little later.

These photos were taken on kind of a gray, dreary summer morning.  I should take a few showing what its like when its sunny!

The property itself is 140 x 45.  When this subdivision was built, way back in 1942 or so, the engineers made a mistake and put the alley about 15 feet or so too far north.  Hence, the lots on my side of the alley are longer than those around the block.  The house is aluminum sided, and since I've decided to be totally honest in everything regarding the needs of the house, could probably stand to be replaced.  Its not falling off or anything, its just kind of dated.  But that is considered a cosmetic improvement up to the discretion of the new owner, and does not affect the price of the house.

There are two huge maple trees that shade the house.  One directly in front and another more in front of the neighbors, but that still provides shade.  The entire street, as in much of this general area, has a lot of trees.

The house, originally a Cape Cod, was built in 1942 or thereabouts and an addition was added in 1964. (blueprints are available!)  When the former owners, the owners of Korellis Roofing, built the addition, they added a family room as well as a master bedroom and additional basement space.  This makes the first floor 1016 square feet, and the second floor 696 square feet

These are the stairs you would see as you walk in the front door.  Originally, when we moved in, they were covered in a lovely (sarcasm here!) gold shag carpeting.  Within the last few years I had decided to tear off the carpeting and redo the stairs.  The job was more than I can handle.  And its been this way for about 8 months.  I have an idea of what I would like them to look like, but since I've decided to sell, I believe that choice should be up to the new owners.

Immediately to the right of the foyer, which has the original oak floors exposed, is the kitchen.  And immediately to the left is the living room.  The living room page is next.
