* Andrew Mackay MP, his wife Julie Kirkbride MP and their 6 year old son also spent the afternoon at the rehearsal and made a good attempt at joining in some camp fire songs! He promised his public support of Scouting when opportunities arise and particularly acknowledged the vital contribution of adult volunteers at local level in helping young people develop into good citizens.
* Following in the eminent steps of Wokingham District's 'Shouting for Scouting' initiative of a few months ago, some 50 Gang Show members also spent the day in Princess Square, Bracknell on Saturday 27 January singing songs and promoting the Gang Show and Scouting. There was a constant stream of parents and young people coming up and asking about Scouting.
Some of the questions asked by bystanders:
'Is Scouting still going on?'
'Can teenagers be in Scouts?
'Is it true girls can join?
'Do Scouts go on camps?'
This highlights how much there is to do to get out to the public even the most basic facts about Scouting, facts which by and large we can easily assume everyone knows about.
