Janine Sirignano
&
Sean Smith
"Fun and original."
--Laura Cortese
Janine and Sean bring good cheer and a touch of the "extratradestrial" to their repertoire of tunes and songs that are mainly Irish but might also include, for example, a song recounting an epic 19th-century English wrestling match, a musical tribute to a Cape Breton fiddling legend or a romantic ballad about an Australian bushranger (culminating in a waltz credited to Mozart).
Janine became interested in traditional/Celtic music via Cape Breton dance, and in the past couple of years has eagerly embraced the Irish fiddle style. She also appears on several tracks of a recently recorded CD of Latin, folk and jazz music by Natasha Wood and Matt Gordon.
Sean, who took up traditional music back in the Ford Administration, employs idiosyncratic guitar and bouzouki backings for tunes and songs, the latter sung with an expressive candor. He's performed solo or in collaboration with others at the Boston Celtic Music Fest, the Olive Branch Coffeehouse, Club Passim, The Nameless Coffeehouse, Blackstone Valley Celtic Festival, NEFFA, WERS-FM and the Boston College Arts Festival, to name a few. In 2007, Sean recorded a solo CD EP at Summit Studios in Newton, Mass.
