Wide Games

Guide to Wide Games

Wide Games are games played over a wide area of land - usually woods and field, but can include water or towns.  We often play them at night as many depend on hunting and tracking skills; creeping up on the enemy camp or intercepting a member of the other team.  We play them in nearby woods and open spaces, sometimes going on the train into the countryside a little to escape from Surbiton's suburban sprawl.

We play games such as Stratego, Lighthouse and Spies.

To prepare for a Wide Game you need to dress up warm: you may have to keep very still in order to hide from the opposition and you may get cold.  Dark waterproof coats, hats and gloves are useful for when it is wet and chilly.  You should wear boots, such as hiking boots or stong shoes and not trainers, as they get soaked.  There is no need to wear Scout uniform on nights when a Wide Game is advertised.

You may want to bring a torch, although more often you will be relying on your night vision.

Finally, check the finishing time as we often finish at 10pm on the night of a Wide Game or Night Hike.
