                        About our Clergy... The Rev. Jason Haggstrom, BTh.  

 

The Rev. Jason Haggstrom is originally from British Columbia. He grew up mostly in the Okanagan Valley with a length of time in Northern British Columbia. When he was twenty, he entered into the Church Army in Canada and trained to be a field officer. He was commissioned at the age of 22 and was sent to the Diocese of Ottawa where he served two years in a large parish, revamping the Sunday School, working with teens and other parish duites.

From there he was invited to become the Director of the Highway Chilren's Ministry. He served out of the Church Army Headquarters in Toronto for two and a half years, doing Vacation Bible Clubs, Working with churches on the their Sunday School Teachers and programs as well as teaching Christian Education for Children at Taylor College.

From there, Rev. Jason and his wife Nova, moved to the Diocese of Yukon and spent five years in that diocese, working with churches to build their ministries and to take on a new style of ministry called Mutual or "Circle Ministry". It was while in the north Jason, began to discern a call to the ordained priesthood.

After time in Yukon, the Haggstroms (Jason, Nova and now little Joshua) moved clear across the country to the Diocese of Western Newfoundland where Rev. Jason has served as a Church Army Officer/Lay Incumbent and as a priest. In 2005, Rev. Jason resigned his post as Lay Incumbent of the Parish of Port Saunders and went to study full time at Queen's College in St. John's, NL. He was graduated with a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Queen's College and was subsequently ordained a deacon on Ascension Day (May 17th,) 2007. The Haggstroms (Jason, Nova, Joshua and Aaron) came to the Parish of Seal Cove in June 2007 and was subsequnetly ordained a priest on All Saints Day (November 1st) 2007. God willing, Rev. Jason will be inducted as Rector by Bishop Percy Coffin on July 3rd 2008 (St. Thomas' Day).  

Jason and Nova have been married for fourteen years and enjoy their sons Joshua (11) and Aaron (5).They reside in the Rectory at Baie Verte.
