NEW LINE-UP MARTIN, DAVE, and JON
VOODOOS
Put A Spell On You
When will this weekend ever stop, well it started at about seven o’clock on the Friday evening and there is still no sign of the end, well not yet.
It’s hard to remember where I’ve been, and who with to see which band. Friday was the Cockpit, Otherside were headlining, that was a good show. Then across town to see Motus play at the Roscoe, now that will take some beating.
Then Saturday, was there a Saturday, oh shhhhit somebody stole my Saturday, I can’t remember !
Sunday I was just putting my plans into action when one text message changed everything, I held my breath and counted to ten and changed to plan B.
Now it was important to get to the New Roscoe early so I could have a photoshoot with the band after they had sound checked, because they had now replaced Matt Black with a young delicate white with a hint of pink, there new guitarist Martin. At just twenty three, that makes him half the age of the Godfather Caley, but his talents outweigh his youth. A fine young guitarist who will go on to bigger things in the future. I hope this guitarist lasts longer than the last seventeen that Caley and Taylor have gone through in the last three years or so. Joking apart Martin should relish his time and take this opportunity to get the experience of working with two old pros.
As usual the Voodoos were loud but not quite as painful as last time I saw them with Matt Black, but I still had to use semaphore to get a round of drinks in at the bar. They played solid rock with Caley’s voice as powerful as ever. Jon Taylor managed to bust his kick drum skin in the very first number, so after a couple more songs they took a break while the skin was replaced. Returning to the stage a few minutes later to a rapturous applause and straight into their Alex Harvey, The Who, and Kinks covers just to name a few, their new guitarist Martin had been well rehearsed. He may have walked on stage for his first gig with the Voodoos looking a little fresh faced but he earned the right to walk off like a vintage rocker.
After the show the audience and some of my close friends and music colleagues were left buzzing with yet another great blast back into the sixties and seventies, the era from whence rock was born.
Look after Martin he’s a good ’un.
Steve.
PS. After the show three girls came up to me and asked if I would take their photographs, I forgot to take their telephone numbers, whoops !

OLD LINE-UP MATT, DAVE and JON
VOODOOS
A Lancashire based traditional R&B Rock band that are constantly playing the pub and club circuit around the UK. Be prepared for a long show, close to two hours, this band don't know when to stop as they rattle off the classics from the sixties and seventies. The Who, Rollin' Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, just to name a few.
I recently spoke with the band, shortly after doing their new band posters and photoshoot for this site and theirs too, but Caley the frontman and bassist said that they would need some new pictures and posters doing as yet another guitarist quits the line-up.
I don't know what Caley and Taylor ( drums ) do with all the guitarists, I thought I heard one of the band say that they had an uncle who was a builder called West. Another way of covering the Rollin' Stones material.
So if you want a good night out, want to rock until you drop, then get your ass to one of their gigs. Caley says that the new line-up may include some Motorhead and heavier rock ballads and classics. Sounds good to me.
( above ) Voodoos frontman Dave Caley, power vocalist and bass player and ( below ) showman drummer Jon Taylor.
Departing guitarist Mat, leaving Dave Caley on vocals and bass guitar, and Jon Taylor on drums and backing vocals. Farewell and good luck, a great guitarist.
