The Barossa Sculpture Park is in short driving distance from Tanunda,
following Basedow Road to the Look Out.
Mengler Hill is a sought after Lookout, with breathtaking views over the Barossa Valley
and beyond.
The Barossa Sculpture Park is the result of the
Barossa International Sculpture Symposium
held in 1988 on Mengler Hill in the Barossa in South Australia.
Nine sculptors met and over six weeks carved their sculptures in local Marble and Granite.
The sculptures were to reflect the environment and express the ambience and spirit of the
Barossa.
To further understanding, the sculptors were hosted by the Barossa residents living with
them in private houses or B&Bs during their stay.
The varied expression of the abstract pieces are evidence of the sculptors' perceptions
as well as testimony of their artistic and cultural backgrounds. See Video Symposium1988
To celebrate its 20th anniversary the
Barossa International Sculpture Symposium 2008
was held in Sept / Oct 2008. Eight sculptors carved sculptures in black and brown granite.
