Tartan Day 2001 Due to the wonderful response to the Burns’ Supper in 2001, and an increasing interest in other Scottish Cultural events being held in and around Sierra Vista, a committee was formed to help organise these events in the future.
During discussion, it was discovered that organising such events would be costly, and beyond the reach of the generosity of the committee members. Though sponsorship will be vigourously pursued, it was decided that some costs could be defrayed by offering membership, at a small fee, to interested people within the community.
As a result, The Scottish Cultural Society was formed and is being registered as a Charitable Society. Although in its infancy, a list of annual events was planned for each year, the first of which took place in April 2001, a celebration of Tartan Day. Proud to be Scottish!
Membership dues have been set at $16.00/person, $24.00/couple/family for the year 2002. Children are free. Members are entitled to discount admission to all events, free entry into a members only drawing at each major event, and a twice yearly newsletter. Please visit our Joining page for more information.
Piper We have had a good beginning for our Society. There was a good turnout and plenty of interest at our Tartan Day at the Mall. The recent 2002 Scottish High Tea was also a great success. We are all looking forward to future events with great mouthwatering anticipation! For the caber tossing ones among us, we have the Celtic Games in Tucson at which we will have a tent and a display. This is an exciting time for our fledgling society and with your continuing support and enthusiasm, we will no doubt take flight. I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to all our members and our committe.
