Since you took the time to join our riding club, let me assure you that we DO ride. We all hope that you plan to do so as well. Our chapter averages over 2500 miles a year, plus thousands of additional miles, attending events, just traveling, doing overnight/weekend rides and much more. Please come on out and join us as often as you can.
As a new member, there are a few things that you need to know.
First and foremost, our rides are about BEING SAFE.
Anyone acting in an unsafe manner on a chapter ride, will be asked to leave.
Second, while the SCRC is a free, ride what you brought, type of club, there is a modest committment required. Although there are no mantadory rides or committments, this chapter is about riding so following our National Chapter Guidelines, your membership will be reviewed by the 1st and 2nd Officer if you we don't hear from you after an extended period or on a yearly basis.
Third, this is a RIDING club, and we travel in organized groups. We ask, for your safety and ours, that you have at least 500 miles of "seat time" on a motorcycle, before you attempt to ride in a group environment. (This is by no means a requirement but a suggestion. We realize that every rider is different and masters the skills required to safely ride their motorcycle and safely ride in a group at different rates.)
If you are a new rider, we highly recommend you take a New Rider Course provided by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). This course will provide you with the basic techniques for operating your motorcycle in a safe manner.
As a new rider, you realize how much of your time and capability is spent learning to control the motorcycle, and the last thing you need to worry about is maintaining speed and spacing in a group environment. After you have mastered your motorcycle, please join us on one of our rides.
If you are uncomfortable with group riding we have plenty of riders that would gladly work with you to increase your skills and comfort level riding with others. Simply notify the 1st or 2nd Officer of your desire to work on your riding skills and they'll get someone to work with you. We'll coordinate the rides to be easy with a limited number of riders. We will emphasize formation riding, hand signals, spacing and anything else you're uncomfortable with. Just remember, we were all new riders at one point. Do not get frustrated or intimidated with riding. Take your time and it will come.
Please take a few minutes and read the SCRC Constitution and the Group Riding page and once again,
Welcome to the SCRC
