If your new to photoshop, it looks scary, such powerful tools at your finger tips, not to worry this tutorial can help you solve the basics of photoshop menus and the layout. The rest is up to you.

Ok so lets look at the first menu, your tools menu, this is the menu on the left hand side. (click to enlarge)

So thats a quick idea of what each tool does, i havent used all of them before, chances are you beginners wont either.
To the next tool bar, your basic menus. Situated at the top, just like every other program.

So far so good? Good.
But what about that section below the main menus.

Well that was quick. Simple enough i hope. The Brushes tab isn't really needed by beginners doing simple things it contains the advanced brush properties.
Well thats good, but its no use knowing the tools unless you havent got a document, which is simple...

Well maybe not that simple. Although you need to make sure that everythings right as if you want 500 x 500 pixels and its in CM, its ging to be much bigger.
But now you've clicked ok whats what, well this is very simple. but you might need to know.

See that was simple.
Now you have all those other menus at the side, I mean what do they do? Don't be scared minions.
Behold, Navigation and Co. ...

Phew thats that sorted. Now to Colour and Co.

Good another one gone.
What about that History menu you say?

Thats what. This is a very simple menu but very useful, it allows you to jump back several steps depending on set up.
But wait theres another!
Layers!

Done. Layers is probably one of the most important menu's. You don't ever work on one layer in photoshop, work on several. Always duplicate your main image so if it goes wrong you have it there, it can be duplicated as much as you want.
I hope that helps a few Photoshop children figure the basics out. The rest of the program is an experiment, it was for Adobe. :)
Cheers
