Photoshop : Making a CD

This tutorial will teach you how to create a 2D CD in photoshop.

This is one i have created, i will create another during this tutorial.

1. Create a new document 700x700 i used 200DPI, but this is upto you.

2. If yhou have Grid already on good, if not then you need to go into View>Show>Grid (for CS2 Users)

3. Using the Elliptical Marquee tool Draw a circle from the top left of your document drag out over 3 large squares as shown

4.Now select the gradient tool (connected with the paint bucket tool) and click on the gradient in the toolbar at the top, using a normal 2 colour gradient eneter the following colour numbers.
# c6d4df (darkest)
# dee7ed (lightest)

5.Select the circular gradient tool from the top toolbar now draw a line from the middle to edge, make sure reverse is unchecked, this should leave the darker colour in the middle.

6. Now draw another circle, using the Elliptical Marquee tool draw in the middle  square. Then delete the selection.

7.Create a new layer.
Now using the elliptical marquee tool create a few circles in the middle, then go Edit>Stroke and stroke with a width of 1 px, and do it with Inside and then Outside. Use a light grey for the colour.

8. Create a larger one at the edge leaving a big gap, one all the selections have been stroked, use the magic wand tool to select the gap between the two edge strokes.

9. Keeping the selection create a new layer and then click the layer, with the selection still selected fill it with a light grey then drop the opacity of this layer dow to 60-70%

10. Just check those layers, you should have the three below, rename them as you wish. You can merge the Grey Opacity Layer and the Disk Circles together. Leaving two layers.

11. Create a new layer called Disk Dots. Then on the DISK CIRCLES layer create another Elliptical Marquee then stroke it with a 2 px width and center selected.

12. Now create a new document 5x5 pixels. And draw a 3x3 pixel square using the pencil tool. Then select the whole canvas and then go Edit>Define Pattern and save it.
-

13. On the Disk Circles Layer select the large gap then click on to the Disc Dots layer keeping the selection. Go Edit>Fill (shift+F5) and click ok.
--

14. ON the Disc Dots layer invert the dots (ctrl+i) and then drop the opacity down 50-70%. Now grad the eraser and rub the dots out, Change the hardness opacity and brush size to do this.
--

15. Click on the main disk layer then right click the thumbnail and select 'Select Layer Transparency'. Then create a new layer called colour. and click on this keeping the selection.

16. With the selection then select the gradient tool, and click on the rainbow gradient and choose the linear gradient mode. Now randomly make gradients in the selection but not too many.
--

17. Open up radial blur under Filter>Blur>Radial Blur and apply these settings.
--

18. Redo the radial blur by hitting (ctrl+f) then change the blend mode to linear light. and change the opacity to 50-70% i used 69%.

19. Select a large eraser brush and change the hardness to 0% and take the opacity to 75% and rub out some of the colour lines.

20. There is no step 20 your done. You can tidy it up how ever you like. Here is mine ive just added a background and a drop shadown to the image.

I hope you have learnt something from this tutorial.
