The following is a project written by 9 year old Wilson Mackle, who inspired by his grandfather, Society member Tom MacGregor, chose as his subject for interviewing famous Scottish Entertainer, Jack Buchanan.
THE HOT SEAT
I am interviewing a Scot called Jack Buchanan
Wilson: How was your child hood?
Jack: It was quite rocky because my father was a gambler and I was deprived.
W: What led you into acting?
J: I was 25 when the First World War broke out and because of my child hood deprivation I was unfit for the army, I decided to act.
W: It's very hard to imagine you unfit, weren't you so famous for dancing! ©
J: Well I did dance the pants off Astaire!!
W: Ah you were known as the Scottish Fred Astaire what part of Scotland are you from?
J: From Helensburgh just outside of Glasgow.
W: Well you certainly travelled a long way fromHome?
J: I lived in London but spent a lot of time in the states but of course travel has changed since the 30's. Mostly by ship I travelled though. I Could take more luggage in fact once I took my Rolls Royce.
W: YOU TOOK YOUR ROLLS ROYCE?
J: I did, in fact it caused a rather big stir in the city.
W: so what sort of movies did you star in?
J: mostly silent at first but then I moved on to be in talkies with speech and song and dance.
W: You are fabulously wealthy, did you do any thing worthwhile with your money?
J: I helped a very clever fellow Scot make a revolutionary product!!
W: Mr. John Logie Baird?
J: yes I financed him. One of my proudest moments was when I was on the Scottish television-opening Act.
W: What was it like being an actor?
J: Lots of pressure but mostly fun.
W: Explain "fun"?
J: 100% enjoyable.
W: So how was your life over all?
J: I would call it ... Hmm... Adventurous!!
