In addition to providing stewardship for all natural resources and raw materials, the Ministry for Economics and Resources also directs economic policy. It also oversees the Schwerdtan monetary system and provides for the financing of the centra government and its programs.

Organisation of the Ministry

Three main divisions facilitate the efficient fulfillment of the Ministry's mission. A Deputy Minister oversees each division.

Economic Affairs

The social market economy system combines the free initiative of the individual in competitive industry with the principles of social progress. Schwerdt's strategic economic objectives are stable prices, a higher degree of employment, and equilibrium in foreign trade together wtih a constant and appropriate economic growth.

Financial Affairs

Financial institutions in Schwerdt operate under the auspices of a charter issued by the Ministry for Economics and Resources. It also administers the Treasury of the Realm (Reichskreditkassen) and issues, circulates, and controls the currency (the Reichsmark) and coinage through the central bank, Reichsbank.

The Ministry oversees central governmental financing and administers the taxation system. A major purpose of taxes is the support of the state's social programs. As such, the taxation system is oriented on the equalisation of incomes to the extent possible without hampering incentives to development.

Environmental Affairs

Schwerdt enjoys bountiful and varied natural resources and wonders which require careful stewardship. The Ministry manages the use and exploitation of resources through implementation of sound energy and material use policies.
