Alliances, Treaties, and Nonproliferation
For the furtherance of world peace and harmony, Schwerdt supports the expansion of alliances that are purely defensive in nature. On the other hand, Schwerdt should not support any alliance of an offensive nature, which by their very purpose are devisive and antagonistic. As such, Schwerdt should refrain from entering into any agreements with nations that are members of offensive alliances.
How Schwerdt Concludes Agreements
Executive agents of Schwerdt may temporarily bind the Social Republic of Schwerdt in international agreements. Executive agents include the Chancellor, Foreign Minister, accredited Ambassadors-Plenipotentiary, and other senior officials who have been credentialed to bind Schwerdt.
As mandated by the Basic Law, an international agreement can only bind Schwerdt temporarily it is assented to by the Assembly of the Republic. At that time, the agreement becomes binding in accordance with its terms. If the Assembly should decline to assent to an agreement, Schwerdt can no longer be bound by it. In good faith, no Schwerdtan executive agent shall enter into an international agreement which is not reasonably expected to be assented to by the Assembly of the Republic.
Nonproliferation
Due to the inherent, complex responsibilities incumbent on the stewardship of atomic, biological, and chemical (ABC) weapons, Schwerdt is committed to the prevention of proliferation of these weapons of mass destruction. Since the stakes are so high, involving the very survival of humanity and civilisation as we know it, Schwerdtan foreign policy is aggressively oriented on the continuing nonproliferation of ABC weapons. Consistent, rational, and responsible control of ABC weaponry is essential, the maintenance of which becomes far less certain if the possession of such weapons were to become available outside of nations currently in possession.
