David & Lorna Schinske's Apache
|
We bought our Apache in 1987. Our house had burned down and we planned to stay in the camper on weekends while we rebuilt the house. Unfortunately, we learned an expensive lesson in shady insurance agents and corrupt county bureaucrats.
In 1995, while living in South Carolina, we
remodeled the pop-up for the first time. We removed the gaucho
seat/bed in the front and moved the dinette there. We then added
Styrofoam insulation to the box and rebuilt all the cabinets.
This included extending the galley to 8 foot. We added a second
sink bowl, which made washing dishes a whole lot easier. We also
replaced an AC/DC cooler with a small electric refrigerator.
We moved to the Chattanooga, TN area in 1997.
After staying in our pop-up for 17 months straight, we realized we
needed to make a few modifications. We mainly needed two things
done. #1: We needed insulation on the upper walls and bed
ends. In the summer, the bed ends would heat up during the
daytime and we had a problem with condensation on the walls overnight,
which made the bedding, wet. In the winter, the condensation
would freeze and the walls would become covered with ice. #2: A
Shower. I do not guess that is really a need but we stayed
at a campground that lost the water heater in one of their bathhouses
(in October). I started to take a shower. I like hot
showers.
