Schadenfreuding is a temporary broadcast channel set up to explore the nature of communication, publishing and editing. Taken from the German word Schadenfreude and manipulated for our own benefit, Schadenfreuding is the act of taking pleasure in others misfortune. A word that cannot be translated into English, ‘damage-joy’, represents the awkwardness of language, presentation and its transferral into a wider circuit of communication.
The first Schadenfreuding showcase sees a series of transmissions, each channel functioning as a different point of access unearthing unending flows of information as current.
Operating with a series of transmissions in mind artists were asked to submit a work that responded to the title Schadenfreuding, and to produce a broadcast of sorts. The result is a series of video works, sculptures, performances, and works in print and sound.
