NC REPUBLICAN WOMEN-CONTINUING TO LEAD THE WAY

Despite the poor outcomes the Republican Party endured in the last election, our SCRW members have reason to hold their heads high. Not only did we gain three new members,  but both old and new members worked at county Headquarters making telephone calls and assisting visitors. Some of our ladies even made calls from home if they were unable to call from Headquarters. One member served as Cabarrus County chair for Women for McCain, and distributed talking points and information to not only club members but also other conservative women in the county. The NC Federation was instrumental in getting Jessica's Law passed last year, which was one of our major goals. This year, as we regroup and get back to our conservative roots, let us remember that no task we set out to accomplish, no matter how small it seems, is ever insignificant to achieveing our goals.

Winter Board Meeting 2009

The Winter Board Meeting of the NC Federation of Republican Women was held February 6-7, 2009 at the Sheraton Imperial in Research Triangle Park. Two representatives from the South Cabarrus Republican Women were in attendance. Saturday's highlight was lunch with former House Majority leader Tom Delay, who gave an overview of his time as House Majority leader. Other events of interest included a presentation by Tami Fitzgerald of NC 4 Marriage, which highlighted the efforts of that group in their pursuit of a Marriage Amendment in the NC constitution which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman. She has been invited to speak at one of our upcoming meetings and is looking at the dates. A workshop led by Chad Adams from the John Locke Foundation focused on the "Top Ten Reasons We Should Pay More Attention to What Happens in Legislature" and proved to be a real eye opener. One of the most important themes of the meeting was the NC Federation's focus this year, which again is on legislation affecting women and children. Foremost is the aforementioned Marriage Amendment, to which the NCFRW has committed itself in much the same way as we did Jessica's Law last year. Other legislation we are watching includes the Unborn Victims of Violence Act and legislation concerning driver's licenses for illegal immigrants. We will continue to follow and pass along all information on these important pieces of legislation when received.
