NC FEDERATION HISTORY - A PROUD TRADITION

Last fall our website described the origins of the National Federation of Republican Women. In this Summer edition of "The Party Line" we will explore the history and mission of the NC Federation of Republican Women, based on research completed by our Foothills Region Vice President, Tresa Cummins.

Our Beginnings

The foundations of the NCFRW were laid after the 1952 successful campaigns of Dwight D. Eisenhower and NC Congressman Jones. Republican women across the state were a major contributing factor in the success of these candidates. Our state organization affiliated with the National Federation in 1953. Twenty years later in 1973, James Holshouser Jr. was elected as the first Republican NC governor of the twentieth century, followed by James G. Martin in 1984. Again, Republican women were  instrumental in these victories by organizing and working at the grassroots level.

The Legacy Continues

Today the NCFRW aggressively participates in the election of candidates who further the Republican agenda. Rep. Sue Myrick from Charlotte and Virginia Fox from Boone, as well as Senator Elizabeth Dole from Salisbury are just a few of the candidates the NCFRW has helped to elect. Currently, the NCFRW is aggressively pursuing passage of  legislation on Jessica's Law, drivers license reform for illegals, the Unborn Victims Bill, and the NC Marriage Amendment.

NCFRW Today

Tioday, our state organization has 5 regions and 68 clubs. The mission of the NCFRW is to have a positive impact on our state and national government by supporting and electing Republicans to advance conservative issues.
