Alternative Education Links

Schoolhouse - A resource which provides accurate information regarding home education in Scotland.

Education Otherwise - A website, and registered charity in England and Wales, for those considering and those already involved in educating children/teenagers outside school. Has vast amounts of information including help on the legal side of things and an option to become a member for which you receive handbooks, advice and priviledges and more.

What is the difference between Homeschooling and Unschooling?  - A detailed but to-the-point website about the differences between the two terms.

HomeSchool Edge - Administration help for Homeschooling families. Plan your school year, keep track of records/reports and print lesson plans.

Unschooling.com - A website dedicated to giving information and help about Unschooling.

InterHigh - It's a High School online. Teachers and students log on for 2/3 hours to take part in a 'virtual class,' and then they have the rest of the day to organise themselves for the next day and/or submit work to their teacher. Despite some expensive fees, it is good that some people have this option.

Anti-School Links

Ami's Anti-School Zone - A website with loads of information about alternatives to school and how to get your parents to home educate you. Loads of pages and an excellent site.

School Survival - A site dedicated to helping teens survive school. Good site with some interesting articles although controversial pages such as, the 'How to Waste Time in Class' page, the 'How to Disobey Your Teacher' page, the 'Cheats' page and the 'School Chaos' page. We don't agree with some of these things but it is anti-school. We'll trust you to make your own decision about this one.

School Phobia Links

"I'm Not Stupid, I'm Scared" - A page all about school phobia. This is really brilliant. This explains school phobia in an easy to understand way. Most schools should keep a copy of this! Explains how schools find it difficult to be understanding sometimes, how some school phobics use internal methods to try and stay in their classes such as zoning out etc. Useful for anyone who is or knows someone who is having a hard time understanding the fear of school. This essay has really hit the nail on the head.

AnxietyUK - A registered charity that supports anyone that suffers from anxiety disorders, panic attacks, social phobia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, school phobia and other disorders/phobias. Informative and helpful. Offers helplines to sufferers of certain conditions and special services to members.

Who wouldn't be school phobic? - A page written by a psychologist which explains about school phobia and how it feels to hate or be scared of school. It expresses the injustice of being forced to go to school by comparing it to being in a prison. One of our favourite links (and not just because it's the first psychologist we've found that actually agrees with us about school!).

School Anxieties - A website which has information ranging from how to try and cut your anxiety down to removing the source of the anxiety. It explains how some schools are more preoccupied with school attendance rather than the quality of the education the child is receiving. Very good.

School Refusal MSN Group - A small, close-knit MSN group for parents with children suffering from school refusal. Good links and friendly members that also allows anyone with experiences of school phobia in.

Bullying Links

Bully-Off - A Complete Guide To Stamping Out Bullying.

Stop Bullying Now - A great anti-bullying website, set up by a really nice girl who's experienced a lot (unfortunately not all good things). Excellent bullying stories page (really thought provoking) and just excellent all over really. Recommended for those who feel alone.

Raven Days - 'Surviving school as a Hunted Outsider.' An excellent website that sticks up for those who dare to be different. We recommend this site to anyone who knows the feeling of not belonging and who want to know there's plenty of people who feel the same.

Bullying. No Way! - An Australian site with lots of info about bullying. Not exactly from a victim's perspective and not emotionally written but nevertheless useful.

What's Bullying? - A website directed most at a younger audience but still useful for an insight into bullying and what to do about it.

Bullying Myths - A brilliant website that answers back to those people who say such things as, "Ignore it," and "Stand up for yourself." Written really well and will probably have you exclaiming, "People've said that to me!" Trust us...this is a website everyone can relate to.

Beatbullies MSN Group - An MSN group by a 16 year old girl from Scotland who has been bullied herself. All about bullying, and very good.
