Welcome to 5th Grade !!![]()
The home of the best students at Malcolm Elementary!
My name is Stacy Burkheiser and I teach 5th grade Literacy at Malcolm Elementary . I am looking forward to a great year with your children. Check back often to the website for updates on homework, upcoming tests and study guides. Remember to always be prepared and work to your best potential; with this attitude you will always succeed!
We have another writing project. I do understand that it is almost the end of the year, however students are still expected to perform at high expectations. I know they will do their very best on whatever is put on their plate. Below you will find directions for the Alpha-Biography.
Alpha-Biography
Due Date - 5/29/09
Over the next two weeks students will be writing an alpha-biography. Rather than telling their life in chronological order, they will be writing short entries for different letters of the alphabet.
During the week of May 18 - 22 the students will be writing their rough draft during their writing block. Students are then asked to type the Alpha-biography according to the directions below and return the completed project on May 29th. Attached you will find an example of what the Alpha-biography will look like.
Project Guidelines:
1. There are 4 parts to each page.
- Letter
- Letter and what it stands for. (see example)
- Brief explanation of event or word. (The entry does not have to be
long but it must be good)
- Life Lesson (What did you learn about life or the world?)
2. Each entry will be typed.
- Letters
- Adjectives in RED lettering
- Events in BLUE lettering
3. Cover Page that will say:
My Alpha Biography
By: student's name
M
M is for Music
I remember when I was 16 years old and I had my first solo recital. I was so scared and I felt like I was going to throw up. I took the stage and began to sing. Once I was singing I stop being nervous and when I was done I saw I had a standing ovation.
Sometimes things are not as scary as we think they will be.
EXTRA CREDIT
Alpha-Biography PowerPoint
For an extra 100% test grade in writing students will create their Alpha-Biography by making a PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint presentation must have 27 slides.
- Title Slide
- One slide per Letter
- On each slide there should be one picture that is related to the subject
- On each slide there must be at least 3 sentences to describe how the
letter or word fits into your life.
- On each slide there should be a Life Lesson
If you choose to take on this extensive project you will receive 2 grades in writing. One grade is for completion and accuracy of the project. The other grade will be for working on the extra credit assignment. Please sign below if you would like your child to complete this project.
