Saviour Darmanin, son of John Darmanin and Helen, known as Nelly, inherited his love for football from his father John, nourished his inheritance in the streets of Vittoriosa and was also part of the Guze’ D’Amato Secondary School team.
He has however spent the major part of his football career keeping goal for Pieta Hotspurs. In the minors he had played for St. George's, Luqa St. A. and Floriana. He moved to Pieta H. in 1994 and earned himself a well deserved early place in the senior team. During the first season with the club he was Pieta's youth player of the year. Though Pieta were relegated from the Premier Division that season, they immediately won the First Division championship and were promoted to the Premier League again. Pieta, with Darmanin in goal most of the time stayed in the Premier ever since. Darmanin has given brilliant service to the club and was twice recognized with the club's player of the year award (2002/03 and 2003/04). He joined Birkirkara F.C. on loan midway through the 2004/05 season.
During 2005/2006, he signed with English non-league club, Vauxhall Motors and made several appearances for them during the season, often flying over for the match and returning to Malta soon after.
Ghajnsielem FC initially contacted Saviour with a view to provide coaching for the Club's young keepers. However, Saviour reached an agreement and ended up playing for the Club.
