Saving Christmas

East Prairie = The Grinch

Recently, I moved from Chicago to Skokie in Illinois. My young children attend East Prairie Elementary School. When you walk into that building during the holiday season, it's beyond gloomy and very depressing. The halls have no decoration and no recognition of Christmas is permitted. I spoke to the principal about this and I was told that religion should not be practiced in school. So in other words, you have no freedom to celebrate your holiday. I took my children to their winter concert they had in school and the only thing they sung was about trash and recycling. Kids were singing "WE LOVE TRASH", even "Frosty The Snowman" wasn't allowed to be sung. I think this is absurd and it hurts not having my children grow up in an environment where they won't be able to feel the holiday spirit around their school. I am open and welcome for Hannakuh, Kwanzah, Ramadan, and Christmas. They just can't say we don't exist. We are here and standing, and we want change. We'll fight for change.
