Save Springside Primary from Closure!

The Save Springside School Campaign Committee would like to thank Carol Kirk, Jim Leckie, the full Education Executive of North Ayrshire Council that was chaired by Cllr John Bell, and of course the pupils and teachers, and the general community of Springside for coming out and supporting our campaign. 

We have to also thank all the councillors who assisted us in any way that they could, and for giving us time at their surgeries, to listen to our arguments that we were putting forward. Special thanks go to Ruby Kirkwood, Joan Sturgeon and John Moffat for speaking up at the meeting on our behalf.

We also need to give a special thanks to the Irvine Times, Irvine Herald, West FM and the BBC, who all gave us the coverage we really needed to get ourselves heard. Without these people, especially Kevin Dyson at the Times, Eric McGowan at the Herald, and of course Steve McKendrick for providing us with a lot of the photographs he took for the Herald, we would not have had the exposure that was an essential part of getting people to know about our campaign.

Everyone who left words of encouragement on our "tell us your thoughts" page are also thanked for their support. Lots of other people and organisations assisted our campaign and we are grateful to them. See here for more details

Some good has come out of this process as it has brought our community much closer together and a lot of new friendships have been developed as a result of our campaign, so again our thanks need to go to NAC for bringing us all together and making us a much stronger village.

The BBC

We have to say an absolutely massive thank you to the BBC for coming to Springside with their cameras and reporters, and filming the handprint painting session on 2nd Feb. The exposure they gave us on BBC1 was second to none, and very much appreciated by the whole village. Thank You BBC.

We would like to thank the Irvine Times (especially Kevin Dyson) for their continued support of our campaign, by giving us the coverage we have needed, which has kept the public up to date with our campaign.

Auld Lang Signs, Dreghorn.

Graham at Auld Lang Signs in Dreghorn helped us with the cost that we had to incur when we asked him to make our 3 "Save Springside School" banners. He kindly gave us a little discount on his normal prices to help us in our cause. Thanks go to Graham for his support.

Springside Community Association

We would like to thank the Springside Community Association for their continual backing of our campaign, for paying for some of our hall lets, and a special thank you to Elaine McCristal for assisting in a big way with getting the doors open to the right people in the BBC. Elaine's consistent pestering of her contact at the BBC eventually got the doors opened for us to discuss our campaign and arrange for the visit on the 2nd Feb.

We also have to thank the Springside Community Association for their very kind donation of £100 towards the cost of printing our "Hands Off Our School" t-shirts. This generous donation helped towards making the march on the 13th February a spectacular  and very visual event.


Friends of Springside

We would like to say a big Thank You to the Friends of Springside for actually paying for the banners we bought from Auld Lang Signs.  The donation was gratefully received.

We would like to thank Melanie for her help in allowing us to use her Post Office Counter as as drop off point for the return of completed questionaires and mini census forms.

We would like to thank the members of the campaign committee, and a couple of village residents who dontated £205 between them to assist in the costs of our t-shirts for the march on the 13th February.


The Buttery, Irvine.

We would like to thank Mrs Hill of the Buttery in Irvine for dishing out free soup and pancakes to everyone who wanted some, as long as they had taken part in our demonstration march on 13th February. The soup was fantastic which helped to thaw us out after demonstrating outside Cunninghame House.
