Puget Sound Climate Issues

"STEP into Tacoma's Future"

Sustainable Committee at University of Puget Sound

We are constantly adding to our list of local allies.  Particularly exciting is the discovery of sustainability organizations on various local campuses.  Check out the UPS website for their sustainability committee:  http://www.ups.edu/sustainability.xml

(this list will be added to soon. thank you for checking back)

The Seattle Environment & Sustainability Meetup Group

There's an interesting group in Seattle with whom we could coordinate and maybe go up for some meetings. The address is: http://www.environment.meetup.com/238/?a=wm1_mem3

Decentrallized Energy Film from UK

Very interesting film (18 min.)

For a convincing and inspiring argument for decentralized
energy (DE) and combined heat and power (CHP) go to
the World Alliance for Decentralized Energy (WADE) webpage:
http://www.localpower.org/index. htm and watch
the “Short Film on DE”. The UK is similarly backward as
the US in recognizing this essential direction in future power
options, but the film is full of exciting examples
demonstrated throughout Europe, where they are way ahead
of us in implementing radically new approaches
to power generation.

Mindfully Website

Sol Riou just sent the group a beautifully done, easy to navigate website with many topics and much information (articles, websites) for any global or "green" interest at www.mindfully.org.

Intentional Community

There's a cool sustainable intentional community on the Columbia River that has a website; Sol Riou (solriou@yahoo.com) wants to visit if anyone is interested and would like to come. The website is: http://www.windward.org.

Local Farms

Here are a lot of local farms, many
organic, in this area. To find them, here is a website:

Grist has an interview with two Vancouver, B.C.
authors who wrote a book about their experience in eating locally.
Here is an excerpt and the link:

The 100-mile diet began as a way to reduce dependence on the fossil
fuels sucked up by the conventional food system, which sees food travel
an average of at least 1,500 miles from farm to plate. But it quickly
became just as much an exploration of community, seasons, and flavor --
and a source of understanding about just how far removed we are from
the food we eat.

Sustainable Puyallup

Sustainable Puyallup
This is a gathering of friends and new friends who live in the Puyallup area and are excited to share ideas and work on projects with each other. We want to support each other's work and be a place where people new to the area, or sustainabilty, can come to find out what is happening locally.
