Penny Rowe, Ph.D., atmospheric scientist with University of Idaho, will present on the Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change report.  Bring questions that you have always wanted to ask.


Bill Smith, Senior Environmental Specialist with City of Tacoma Solid Waste Management, will present on what the city of Tacoma is doing to address the Climate Crisis (including the Green Ribbon Task Force on Climate Change).  Bring your concerns, solutions & ideas.

Chuck Jensen, Northwest Earth Institute, will introduce a 4-week course on Global Warming for those interested in further study.

S.T.E.P.S. Planning Meeting

Join us on Monday evening, May 14th at the Mandolin Cafe in Tacoma at 7pm to help out.  Our core group ranges from 3 to 7 people in size, and we welcome any committed folks who would like to put energy towards planning and promoting these monthly events.

Other presentations and action projects planned are:  the Bass House and Green Architecture in Tacoma; Peak Oil and local Transportation Alternatives; Neighborhood Garden Walks with Backyard Habitat presentations and tours; Living with Urban Wildlife; The Y Theory - concensus and true democratic process;  The Fungus Among Us - the many roles of mushrooms in sustainability;  Deep Ecology;  Solar Energy;  Water Management - rain to greywater and beyond;  Cobb Building;  Barter and Trade - building the local resource network;  ...and much more.  Please feel free to offer ideas and your assistance to help turn Tacoma into a city known far and wide for its efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and promote sustainable lifestyles.

Title:   Planting and Invasive Species Removal

Location:   Squally Beach

Details:  
CHB volunteers will be working the EarthCorps to

remove invasive species from Squally Beach and

plant the high salt marsh. Please join us to remove

some of the future seed sources for some of the most

problematic species in Commencement Bay restoration.
