Undoubtedly, the woman who became to epitomize what we recognize today as 'celebrity', Zsa Zsa Gabor is better known for her many marriages, personal appearances, her 'darhlink' catchphrase, her actions, life gossip and quotations on men, rather than her film career.
It is unclear when Zsa Zsa Gabor was born, sources vary from 1917 to 1919. Born in Budapest, Hungary as Sari Gabor, she followed her sister Eva to Hollywood. A radiant, beautiful blonde, Zsa Zsa began appearing on television shows and doing the odd movie.
Her first film was at MGM in Lovely to Look at (1952) co-starring Kathryn Grayson and Red Skelton. She next made a comedy called _We're Not Married (1952)_ at Twentieth Century Fox with Ginger Rogers. It was far from a star billing for Zsa Zsa, appearing several names down the cast list as a supporting player.
It was 1952, however that saw her break into the big time in the movies with her starring role opposite José Ferrer in Moulin Rouge (1952). It is said that she was given a very hard time throughout the filming from Director John Huston.
In the following years Zsa Zsa slipped back into supporting roles in films such as Lili (1953) and 3 Ring Circus (1954). Her main period of work in film was in the 1950s with other supporting roles in films such as Death of a Scoundrel (1956) with Yvonne De Carlo and The Man Who Wouldn't Talk (1958) with Anna Neagle. Again, these were supporting roles. By the 1960s, Zsa Zsa was appearing more as herself in the movies; she now appeared to follow her own persona around, therefore cameo appearances were the order of the day in films such as Pepe (1960) and Jack of Diamonds (1967). This continued throughout the 1970s; 80s and into the 90s.
Very memorable as herself in The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991), in which she humorously pokes fun at an incident in 1990 when she was convicted of slapping a police officer during a traffic dispute and spent several days in jail.
With such infamous incidents, she has become one of the most all-time recognizable of Hollywood celebrities in recent years and is often ridiculed as a result. Very memorable also to British television viewers on "The Ruby Wax Show" (1997).
In 2002, she was reported to be in a coma in a Los Angeles hospital after a horrifying car accident. The 85-year-old Hungarian-born star was injured when the car she was traveling in hit a light pole in West Hollywood, California. She is now reported to be living in a luxury suite in the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in California's Woodland Hills.
Jennifer
Jennifer Saunders was born July 12th 1958 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, UK. She attended Central School of Speech and Drama where she met her comedy partner Dawn French. Like many of the early 80s groundbreaking "alternative" comedians she began her career as comedienne/actress/writer with Dawn French at "The Comedy Store" in London, where she met fellow comedians Adrian Edmondson (later her husband), Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer, Alexei Sayle and 'Peter Richardson' , who later opened his own club, "The Comic Strip", where these comedians quickly formed a regular format.
The Comic Strip team were transferred to television screens with great success as they al starred alongside each other in "The Comic Strip presents..." (1982) . After The Comic Strip she starred in a few episodes of "The Young ones" (1982), _"Girls on top" (1985)_ and "Happy Families" (1985). Afterwards she and Dawn French wrote a TV show of their own, "French and Saunders" (1987), which was an immense success due to the double act's genius writing, brilliant acting performances and hilarious spoofs of world famous blockbusters and bands.
It was in one of the episodes of "French and Saunders" that the audience had the pleasure of watching a sketch about an uptight daughter and a crazy, neurotic mother that became a comedy classic sitcom. When the BBC next asked Saunders to write something, she just couldn't come up with any ideas, so she decided to expand on that sketch, making it more outrageous and therefore funnier - "Absolutely Fabulous" (1992) was born.
Perhaps by coincidence Saunders had created one of the most loved, funny, and creative TV Shows in BBC history. Three series were made, in 1995 the show was put on hold until Saunders began writing again and came back with a fourth series in 2001. She is always ready for charity as well, she has been doing "Comic Relief" with a lot of her comedy companions ever since 1986. Jennifer Saunders, one of the most loved TV faces in Britain, will hit the screens with her fifth series of Absolutely Fabulous in 2003.
The comedy partner of Dawn French
Has three daughters: Beattie aged 18, Ella aged 17 and Freya aged 14 (September 2004)
Her character Edina Monsoon on Absolutely Fabulous (1992-1996) is obviously a reference to her being married to Adrian Edmondson since 1985.
Jennifer can do a very accurate impression of Irish actress Amanda Burton and used it in a "French and Sauders" spoof of Burton's TV series "Silent Witness".
Was revealed that she and partner Dawn French declined Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honors "for services to comedy drama" in 2001. [December 2003]
Won a People's Choice Award for "Favorite Movie Villain" for playing the wicked Fairy Godmother in "Shrek 2" (January 2005)
