HISTORY
In 1629,the belgian region of Watou was granted the exclusuve privelege of becoming an earldom of the illustrious van Yedegem family.
The family owned a castle in Watou, to which a brewery was attached.
However, during the rench revolution, both the castle and brewery were destroyed.
After the revolution ,only the brewery was rebuilt, due to the overabundance of castels.
In 1862, the brewery was taken over by the Van Eecke famely and was named GOUDEN LEEUW(golden lion).Only high fermeted eers were brewed on the gouden leuw.
The brewery had only local significance until WORLD WAR 2 broke out.
After this War, the prodution of a abbey ber was setup and was named Het Kapittel. Why the name abbey beer het kapittel? There are only 5 breweries in Belgium?allowed to use this exclusive name trappist's beer, which means that the beer is still brewed by monks.
Other breweries desired to introduce a well groomed and valueble beer on the market, but having no connections with a monatery or monks for the matter, chose for the name abbey-beer.Abbey beer Het kapittel belongs to this second group and emphaziises the importance of crefully brewed beer.
In flemish, het kapittel stands for the hierarchy of fathers and priests within a monastery.

Poperings Hommelbier
Despite the high quality of the abbey beer Het Kapittel, the favourite of the brewery remains POPERINGS HOMMELBIER.
In the area of Poperinge, which is a little town in the west of Belgium, harvesting hops is a main industry and art.In the local dialect hommel means hop and therefore we have used the dialect to give our product a name:Poperings hommelbier. In order to brew this beer,we use a blend of 3 types of hops.In addition, the presence of hops in the beer are strong, enchancing its flavour and refreshing, slightly bitter taste.Hommelbier is a beer with econdary fermentation in the bottle. Therefore,a layer of ferment is still present at the bottom of the bottle. This beer has a unique distinction of bieng a completely natural beer.In order to stir the layer of ferment, the beer is gently served in a glass, preferably at a temperature between 6°and8°C.We suggest keeping the bottles upright. Before serving the beer, bottles should be stored in a cool place, until they haved reached the desired temperature.

WATOU'S WITBIER
Besides Hommelbier and abbey beers Het Kapittel, brewery Van Eecke is brewing his own white beer since 1998.
This beer is brewed with a perfect blend of pale barly malt and wheat and soft type of hop;the beer is spiced with coriander. The special yeast gives the beer a slightly acidulous taste.
Watou's witbeer is only filterd so as to ensure that when pouring out,the beer is turbid. |

Kapittel DUBBEL
The dark beers kapittel pater and kapittel prior have for some time past been completed with a third variety namely kapittel DUBBEL,who wich 7,5°vol%alc.Fills up hiatus between pater and prior.
Kapittel PRIOR
This dark beer has been brewed with careful attention in accordance with our age old brewing traditon. It is a flavourful beer, tasting slightly bitter-sweet with 9°vol%alc.
Kapittel ABT
This amber-coloured beer of the tripel variety is a very rich beer with a wonderful balance between a full yet lightly stimulating bitter taste and alcohol pecentage of 10°.This beer is a real beerconnoissuer schould be appreciate | | | |
