I've always had weight issues, so skipping to adulthood. When I married my DH I gained about 30-40 pounds the first two years we were married. I stepped on the scale in 2002 weighing in at an astonishing 245. I made a half hearted attempt at WWers then, lost 13 and gave up. In 2003 I got pregnant with DS#1. It was a hard pregnancy, I had all the textbook "weight related" pregnancy problems - high blood pressure, hypertension, pre-eclampia and gestational diabetes. My last doctor visit prior to giving birth was 272. I was miserable, depressed and sad that I weighed more than professional football players. My admission papers called me morbidly obese. I vowed I would never see that agin.
Post baby, I lost 30 pounds right away and started a low-carb diet plan called Protien Power. Again, I lost 13 and gave up. In March that year, I discovered I had developed gallstones (common occurance after an obese pregnancy). Before the surgery, mt anthesigolist asked if I would participate in a study, as I was obese. I had had enough of hearing that term associated with me! After I had recovered I joined WWers online at 232.5. I can't say I followed the plan religously, but I lost 49 in 14 months, not too shabby.
Then came pregnancy #2. I vowed when I started that I would only gain 25 pounds. Well, I gained twice that. I can only blame myself for the gaining... but I was hungry all the time. I averaged 6-7 pounds a month and my final doctor visit, I was right back up at 232. Most importantly, though, NONE of the weight related problems I had during the first returned. So if you ever wonder if losing weight really helps - it really does! Gestational Diabetes has a 90% rate of return, I cried the day my tests came back and showed that I had no signs of gestational diabetes. After birth I dropped 20 right away, and now am working my way back to 183.
