Let me introduce myself

Hello, thank you for taking an interest in the Sansorrella website.

I'm Sandra and I've spent what seems a lifetime rearing five lovely children and just about every domestic animal on the planet, from rabbits, parakeets, chickens and geese to Pygmy goats!    I have enjoyed several years involved in falconry, breeding and flying various birds of prey (falcons, hawks, owls and vultures) and regularly gave talks/demonstrations in schools, clubs etc.   Several years ago I got back into breeding and showing Shelties (a breed I had kept before having my family) and have had some success in the show ring and have bred Cruft’s qualifiers.   In 1999 I found the Northern Inuit dog and my life has never been the same since!   My three greenhouses that used to produce an abundance of colour for my garden remain sadly neglected and my beautifully landscaped garden resembled a lunar landscape when I left it recently to venture into pastures new (literally).  After a tremendous upheaval we have now relocated to much more suitable and 'dog friendly' premises in Lincolnshire.  The dogs absolutely love it and have much more space - I have more grass cutting to do but the enjoyable walks on the beach make up for the extra work involved.  There is also a small greenhouse, so you never know I may start pottering around plants again.   I have no shortage of visitors to help with the garden and running the dogs etc. and my new place seems to be a popular retreat for weekend breaks and short holidays for my doggy friends - long may it last!!!!

I have bred several very nice litters of Northern Inuit dogs including Best Puppy in Show at the NIS Show in August 2004, Best Puppy in Show at the NIS Show in Essex 2006 and Best Puppy in Show at the NIS Show, Oldham 2006.   One of my bitches was Best in Show at the NIS Essex Show  2006 and Reserve Best in Show and Best Brood Bitch at the NIS Oldham show 2006, where another of my pups was Reserve Best Puppy in Show.   My Northern Inuit dogs have also won Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show, Best Puppy in Show and Reserve Best Puppy in Show at various Companion Dog Shows and have won Obedience competition certificates including 2nd Place at the NIS Show, Oldham 2006 and two 1st Places at TIDA shows in 2007.   In 2007 Sansorrella dogs won Best in Show ,  Reserve Best in Show and Best Brood bitch at almost every TIDA show and  there are some promising Sansorrella pups  ready to make their début in 2008, not to mention two that started the year by winning Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show at the BUA/NIS show in Scotland in February 2008.

I was Chairperson of the Northern Inuit Society for a while but became very disillusioned by that Society so, together with a group of fellow enthusiasts, formed The Inuit Dog Association, where I am currently the Chairperson.   My aim is to bring the Northern Inuit dog to the attention of the general public, to promote its versatility by example and to improve the quality of this wonderful breed by careful selective breeding.   I have had many years experience with just about every aspect of keeping dogs and answer questions on general husbandry, care, training, behaviour, breeding and common ailments on the Inuit Dog Breeders and Owners forum - there is a link to this forum on my Links page.

The aim of the Association is not only to keep a database of the breed including pedigrees and health records, but to bring owners and their dogs together at various shows and events up and down the country and to offer help, advice and education.   We are also striving to achieve Kennel Club recognition of the breed and I am currently liaising with the Kennel Club with this objective.   There is a link to the Association's website on my Links page and on the Inuit Dog Association page.  We are also concerned about the health and future vitality of the breed and are maintaining records concerning the health of the Northern Inuit population with the help of owners and breeders across the country, regardless of which club they belong to.

A group of happy Northern Inuit dogs at one of TIDA's regular meets - the dogs obviously enjoy meeting up with old friends - so do TIDA members - see TIDA's site for details of how to join!
