Having the right family background is crucial to proper development, as we all know.
Not to be out done in that regard, the Canadian Sandpiper 565 boasts proudly of European ancestory. A sophisticated, well mannered sailboat, she traces her roots back to the quality design concepts of Leonardo da Costa Sayago, Portuguese Naval Architect.
It all started back in the very early 1970's, when Maxim Marine of England built two similarly styled small cruisers, the Sailfish 18 and 25, penned by Angus Primrose; boats that today have taken their rightful place in the Piper family tree, as the CL Sandpiper 565's cousin and wild uncle ...every family's gotta have one ...right?

A young man in his twenties at the time, Leonardo's Sandpiper concept was strongly influenced by these designs and by the Swedish OS 19, as well. The OS 19 is seen here sailing on the Itchen River, in a photograph taken by Leonardo, himself.

Across the Atlantic, in Canada, with the introduction of few cosmetic changes, the Sandpiper 565 was born.
