My mom is truly the Crazy Dog Lady -- go see www.crazy-dog-lady.com She has achieved her dream of opening her own business as a dog trainer, focussing on behavioral issues and the core of dog behavior making teaching the dogs much easier when the behavior itself is understood.

She tells everyone that I was her inspiration as I can be a challenge...who? me?????

Ah, c'mon...these titles came easy, didn't they????

Mom says I can be a pain in the rumpa-bumpa outside of the performance ring as I have poor social skills....but she is figuring me out now....we're progressing rather well now! Some day I will realize playing with other dogs is better than being an alpha bitch...woof!

This means that she has been tested normal or clear on

HIPS, ELBOWS, HEART, THYROID AND RECEIVED HER PASSING TEMPERAMENT CERTIFICATE!

And I did not stop there -- I am highly involved in a lot of genetic and health studies...so Pixel has also been tested "normal/normal" on the MDR1 gene - which causes sensitivity from Ivermectin which is present in Heartworm medication and also sensitive to some other drugs. This is extremely common in Collies and many can die from ingestion of Ivermectin. German Shepherds are also very prone to this genetic defect in the gene.

I also had her DM Flash Tested against the gene which is suspected to caused Degenerative Myelopthy in German Shepherds. More info can be found at:

This is very common and very heartbreaking!

My family and I live in Northern Minnesota and I have been involved with dogs my entire life. I work on the GSDCA Health and Genetics Committee because the health and future of our breed is so important! I am not a big breeder, nor will I ever be. My dogs are part of my family (as you can see!) and I will only own as many as I can fully care for and spoil. My family always had a GSD or a GSD mix and I owned my own first German Shepherd at the age of 13.

His name is FRANKIE - he's an Umbrella Cockatoo.

Momma rescued him from near death in October 2005.

He's Ok...but I get upset and my ears hurt when he throws his tantrums!

He also likes to chase my tail!

But Momma said I have to behave and I respect that...

She didn't say I have to like it tho! Although I have come to accept him and even try to play with him.

But momma says I must be careful not to hurt him with my clumsy paws!

Update: Mom's life became so busy that Frankie rebelled. Being an Umbrella Cockatoo they need constant attention and hugs....so Frankie went to live with an extended family member where he gets all that mom couldn't give any more due to crazy schedule.
