News Update: 19th Sept 2007 Floods affect five districts in our state. A low pressure off the coast brought widespread rain in the states for the second day on Tuesday inundating at least 70 villages in Andhra Pradesh and cutting off road links to several towns and villages.Heavy Rain continued to lash the Andhra Pradesh from Tuesday leading to flooding of several towns, villages and cities being the worst effected with getting submerged under two feet of water.
Four persons were washed away in flash floods in several rivulets on Monday night, but the family members realized about it only on Tuesday. A girl of 14 years student was washed away in a swollen stream in near to our place. Knee-deep water flowed in town posing problems for pedestrians and vehiclists.The heavy rainfall caused a huge loss to standing crops and the transportation of Buses withdrew nearly 50 percent of its services to remote areas.
These people are really in need of assistance.Thousands of people have lost their loved ones, as well as housing and cattle.CGE is making tremendous efforts to provide relief to the needy. “The situation in Andhra Pradesh is extremely critical—we are working day and night in the affected communities. The most immediate things needed are the following: medicines, blankets, mattresses, tents, food and water. We have done whatever we can so far with the little we have. We need your help. After this urgency goes, we want to help the people to rebuild their lives. We want to provide them with help to build their homes, furnish them and hopefully provide them with cattle, chicken and other domestic farm animals for their subsistence.Children and old men and women are suffering the most.
