DEFENDING champion Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) routed Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST), 89-69, Monday in the 18th State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association-National Capital Region men’s basketball tournament at the Technological University of the Philippines court.

Held to a 20-20 count after the first quarter, the Marooners unleashed a series of scoring spurts to move beyond reach, 71-45.

The victory was PUP’s third straight in as many games, putting the Marooners within two games of pulling off a sweep and claiming another title.

In other games, host TUP trampled Philippine Normal University, 87-67, to remain unscathed after two matches, while Philippine State College of Aeronautics also downed EARIST, 74-64, for its first win in two tries.

PNU and EARIST are already out of contention with 0-3 records.

Meanwhile, TUP bagged the first gold in the arnis competition after Ibrahim Iymanbin ruled the anyo double stick event

The Sandigan ng Mag-aaral para sa Sambayanan or the samasa alliance, being the sole and broadest student alliance of academic, environmental, socio-political, ecumenical, and other organizations in PUP continues its struggle for almost 10 years now. Formed in August 1994, the alliance membership continues to grow in number, university wide. Since its beginning, our long and arduous endeavor to press forward a student alliance that will genuinely serve and protect our legitimate interests, fight for our democratic rights and welfare and work as an accompanying weapon in the fulfillment of the students empowerment in the university has finally paid off.
