| Introduction |
Ok theres a few things in the so called Randland that aren't really Shadowspawn or Forsaken...they include dark friends, evil in shadar logoth..Mashadar and Fain and then a few others...this is their page. |
| Darkfriends |
Well not only Aes Sedai could be turned to the Shadow, normal people also hungered for the power and immortality that was promised and these were know as Friends of the Dark...although now they're just called Darkfriends...which is somehow less catchy. They have as yet not achieve immortality like the Forsaken but they have as a cult suvived for 3000 years but as with all cults and religions there are various levels of commitment, ranging from dabblers that think it sounds cool and kinda kinky...to full blown nuts that spend their lives corrupting and plotting and trying to break the DO free. There are however more dabblers than serious nutters in todays society...but theres some in every city...and between 500 & 1000 DF for every 100,000 people but in the AoL there were many many more serious Friends of the Dark and they were i the open and sered in mayn ways..they were probly dedicated because the Forsaken were directly leading them...where as todays socitey largely believes the forsaken are tales to frighten children. Rank amoung Darkfriends is indiscriminate of rank in life...a begger could be the highest ranking member and could command kings and nobles...if he gave the right signs and it is also possible to turn back the the Light..."no one can walk in the Shadow so long they cannot walk in the light". However most people chose not to do this because people that went back to the light tended to end up dead...and rather messily

| Mashadar |
Mashadar is not a creation of the Shadow but they too fear it. Created by the suspicion and hate of the people of Aridhol, now called Shadar Logoth (Where the Shadow Waits), Mashadar wanders the desolate city appearing as a fog. When the fog touches living creatures it destroys it, leaving nothing behind, not even a body.
Mashadar could not be destroyed as it was to large but you could destroy small tendrils of the fog using the One Power, but now it is unlikely that Mashadar is still "alive" as Rand destroyed Shagar Logoth whilst cleansing saidin. |
| Machin Shin |
Machin Shin is not a direct creation of the Shadow but it was indirectly created by the dark one. When saidin was tainted it sent all men who could channel mad, but it also corrupted other things made of saidin such as the Ways. The Ways, are tunnels that you can go in one end and come out two days later on the other side of the world and they were supposed to be peaceful and beautiful and shone like the sun. But when saidin was tainted they to became tainted and the Ways became dark, and fell to corruption. Men went in and never came out, or came out mad muttering about "Machin Shin" The Black Wind and that is how it has been since the breaking.
Machin is just a wind with no real thought, it mearly travels the ways looking for victims to kill or drive mad, and take their souls. When Machin Shin met Padan Fain they talked to each other and then Machin Shin fled, and after that it seems to have been following Rand 'al Thor, allways there when he opens the Way gates. |
| Padan Fain |
A dude of uber evilness...Fain was a peddler and every year would travel to the two rivers with his goods and news...but he was a darkfriend...sent by the DO to find young men of a certain age...looking...hunting for the ones. He would then return to Shayol Ghul where his mind would be distilled and fed back so that he could hunt with more acuracy. The things done to Fain haunt him still but they made him able to find the ones he needed and on Winters Night he brought the rollocs to Edmons Field...but rand and perrin and mat escaped...and fled to Shagar logoth..it was here that things got nasty. Fain escaped from the trollocs and when fleeing the City was touched my Mordeth, in an attempt for mordeth to take over his body and be free...but because of what the DO had done to Fain the result was a merge of Fain and Mordeth and so was born a truly dangerous foe. However he was still compulsed to to chase the ones he was seaking...especially Rand...and he followed them across the world..and then he met Mashadar..and spoke to it...and understood..and in someway managed to command...it to follow rand...or it tryed to eat his soul and got a mouth full of Fains need to hunt Rand. Then in Fal Dara Fain stole the Horn of Valere and Mat's dagger and a big chase scene ensued and Mat got the dagger back...was healed from it in Tar Valon where Fain retrieved it...and with it he feels hole...and as a weapon it can kill in seconds...leaving a bloated blackened corpse. Other bits about Fain...he can tell a DF on sight...he can corrupt people by being near them...and he has a whole bag of tricks to cause pain and suffering...all to get to Rand..he is completely insane and is hunted by the Shadow as a liability Fain is still alive...still chasing rand..and i personally reckon he's got a really really important part left to play at the Last Battle. |
| Shai'Tan |
When the universe was created, the Creator bound the Dark One outside of time and space. "He" remained trapped within his prison until the Bore was drilled when he was set partly free...enough to touch the world. Until then the world was peaceful and war was a forogtten word...after the Bore..the being took the name Shai'Tan , although to say this name will call his attention to you and is considered very unlucku, so "he" is known by many names..Sightblinder, heart fang, Soulsbane, Leafblighter, Old Grim, Grassburner, Father of lies and the Dark One.
I said "he" because the DO has no sexuality or form..it is a being outside of reality but he can alter this world, i'e touch the land by the bore...give power (the True Power) and as he grows stronger...affect things like the weather. Once free the DO will remake the world in his own image but first he must have people in the world to break his prison open and "he" lures followers with promises of power and immortality. |
