The Alpha Nu chapter of Youngstown State Univeristy was first chartered through Sigma Alpha Iota on June/July 1930.  It later dissolved due to lack of interest in the mid 90's.  After all of those years that Alpha Nu did not exist, a group of 17 motivated young women decided that they wanted to bring back this chapter to the Youngstown State University campus.  This is their story of how they brought back the old idle chapter to their university and how they became sisters.

On February 14, 2002, a group of girls got together in a hallway in Bliss (the Dana School of Music's main building).  All of these girls sat in the hallway discussing the ideas of starting the organization called "Sigma Alpha Iota."  From that point on, it was in their hearts to get this chapter back to their university and to become proud new sisters of that organization.  First, they had to become a student organization, which they titled "YSU Women's Music Society."  From there, they worked 10 hard and long months to collect every bit of information they needed to send out to National Headquarters in order to become a chapter.  They put on musicales, worked car washes, had weekly summer meetings, and attended other events together in order to get their chapter back up before the Centennial Anniversary.  With the help of April Antell Tarantine and the newly installed brothers of Phi Mu Alpha (Delta Eta Chapter), they were able to become successful.  Finally, on December 7, 2002, all 17 of the girls were initiated, and Alpha Nu was brought back to the Youngstown State University Campus.
