South Albany Southern Belles and Gent

Dance Team

About the Team

The South Albany Southern Belles Dance Team is a year round sport and a zero period class at South Albany High School in Albany, Oregon.

We consist of 17 dancers, 2 managers, 1 head coach, 4 assistant coaches, and a choreographer.

The Beginning of the Season

Every year, tryouts take place in May. We select the following year's team and lay out our expectations for the year.

From May through December, we fundraise continuously.

Every year, the newly selected team members are required to attend the Thunderbird Dance Camp for four days in the beginning of July at Portland State University. The team stays in the dorms and has an amazing opportunity to learn many routines.

We start learning many dances, which we perform at football and basketball game halftimes during the coming months. We are also gearing up for our category portion of the competition season.

Competition Season

Our competition season kicks off with our first category competition held in our hometown, Albany. It is held at West Albany High School. We generally try to bring a jazz routine and a hip-hop or lyrical routine. We will attend a second the first week in December at Scappose High School.

Traditional Competitions begin in January. We will compete in 3-4 traditional competitions.  All these competitions lead up to the State Competition in March, which is held in Portland, Oregon.
