6/21/2009 Clarksville ,TN Last night the game between the two undefeated Thunder and Viper teams was picked to be the game of the week with good reason. Both team averaging close to the same numbers on both offense and defense. Derby City led 6-0 going into half time behind a Elonzo Scott to Steron Davidison 50 yard touchdown pass. The Vipers not to be outdone on their own field amassed a rally late in the third quarter to take the lead 13-6. On the next Thunder drive Elonzo Scott was intercepted in the endzone for a Viper touchback. The Thunder defense held the Vipers on downs and with a great return by Fred Grindsted that set up a Elonzo Scott rushing touchdown made the score 14-13. Leaving 2:01 on the clock the Thunder defense again rose to the occasion and stopped the Vipers offense on four down to seal the victory. Derby City Thunder will host the Tennessee Rampage June 27th 5pm at Stuart Middle School.
6/14/2009 Hopkinsville, KY - The visiting Thunder with something to prove traveled to Hopkinsville to take on the Hopkinsville Marauders. Running the ball at will Derby City pounded the Marauders for 154 yards . Most of those yards coming from veterian runningback Howard Gant, who finished the game with 108. The star of the show was QB Elonzo Scott who rushed for three scores and passed for two more. The Thunder defense harrassed the Marauders quarterback all night forcing two interceptions and holding the Marauders offense on the goal line twice. Next up is the undefeated Clarksville Vipers in Clarksville, TN
6/7/2009 Louisville, KY- Frankfort Falcons proved why they were 2008 AFL NAC runner- ups. Scoring first on a pass to a former Thunder player, the Falcons jumped to a 7-0 lead. With two rushing touchdowns by Howard Gant and one by QB Elonzo Scott Derby City took a 18- 14 halftime lead. Both defenses put a hold to the scoring in the second half, the Thunder however returned a interception 57 yard courtesy of LB Duane Franklin to seal the deal 24-14 Thunder.
5/17/2009 Louisville, KY- The Thunder opened their 2009 preseason this weekend against the USFA Tri-State Sharks winning 20-0. Derby City took a quick 14-0 lead into halftime behind two Elonzo Scott to Steron Davidson touchdown passes. Howard Gant then capped off the win with a touchdown from a yard out late in the fourth quarter. Scott completed 11 of 16 passing for 179 yards. Davidson had career high 7 receptions for 160 yards. The Thunder defense who allowed only three first downs also held the Sharks from scoring inside the five twice. Keith Hamblin and Anthony Money intercepted a Shark QB pass a piece and Money recovered a timly fumble. The Thunder will opened the 2009 Alliance Football League season against the Frankfort Falcons June 6 Stuart Middle School.
4/11/2009 Louisville, KY- We would like to give a specail thanks to everyone who helped us make some children happy this Easter. We were able to put together and donate 35 Easter baskets to the Home of the Innocents today, doing our part to give back to the community. We could have not done it without your contributions.
3/24/09 Louisville, KY- Practice for the 2009 season is now under way and I must that the turn outs have been marverlous. We have a lot of familiar faces returning to the team with a host of new one to compliment our core group. The first test for this 2009 Thunder team will be a matchup against last year division rival Tri-State Sharks (USFA). That presaeson game is set for May 16th. Then the Thunder open their 2009 AFL season at home against the Frankfort Falcons in Louisville also.
12/27/08 Louisville, KY- The decision has been made on which league the Thunder will participate in for the 2009 season. The Alliance Football League has acceptted the Derby City Thunder as one of its 25+ teams. "Their were a few to choose from but we as a staff believe that the AFL is the best fit for us" comment Howard Gant. Stayed tuned for more info.
