Intro
The skill we know as prayer can be very advantageous. By calling upon the Gods of Runescape, one can perform such acts as regeneration, superhuman strength and invulnerability to magic, combat and ranging. The ability to call upon these gods must be trained however, and that is the art of prayer. For the higher your prayer level, the greater your advantages.
To use a prayer, open the prayer menu and a list of prayers will open. Click on the prayer you want to activate. If you want to turn it off again, simply click on it one more time.
 |

 |
Prayer that is in use. |
 |
Prayer that you dont have the level to use. |
Each of the prayers can be turned on or off individually. When you use a prayer, you are given an advantage depending on the prayer you choose to use. However, you can only use one prayer spells for each skill at a time. For instance you can have 'superhuman strength' (raises strength) and 'incredible reflexes' (raises attack) at the same time, but you cannot use 'improved reflexes' and 'incredible reflexes' simultaneously, since they both increase your attack.
Spells & Drain Rates
When using a prayer, your prayer level will slowly drain. When your prayer is drained to zero, all prayers will be deactivated and you will need to recharge at an altar to use another prayer. The rate at which it drains depends on the prayer, and the equipment you are wearing.

Protection Prayers
The 3 protection prayers, Melee, Missiles and Magic are very important prayers. They allow you 100% protection from NPC attacks. When in use, a little icon will appear above your head.
These prayers can be invaluable when you are in a tight spot, or when you are training. A good training technique against high level monsters that typically do a lot of damage is to wear equipment that gives excellent prayer bonuses such as the mace, monk’s robes and the holy symbol, and use protect against melee. Your prayer will drain quite slowly and last a while. Bring prayer potions to keep your prayer from draining totally.
However, in the wilderness and the dueling arena, the protection prayers work differently. Instead of 100% protection, they protect you 50%, while raising the amount of times you block your opponent’s attack. They are a great advantage, and can save your life in tight spots.
The Prayer Guild
The Prayer Guild, located in the Monastery east of Ice Mountain, is 31 to enter. Benefits include the ability to talk to Brother Jerrod, who can bless your holy symbols. Monk’s robes are also available in the guild. And an altar that gives u 2 more prayers when you recharge (example: If you lvl 55 prayer, you get 57/55). |

Intro
Crafting is rumoured to be a slow, useless and boring skill, but once you get into it there's lots to do! You can make everything from pots to collect flour in, to dragonhide armour for rangers. Crafting can be found all over the Runescape world. In the amulets people wear, the vials you use in herblore and the Mystic Staves Magicians fight with. These items are all be made in crafting.
Note: Items shown in gray shaded rows (in tables below) are members only items and can not be made or used in f2p.
Pottery
Low level crafting involves pottery; where you can make pie dishes, pots and bowls - all used in cooking. To make one of these items you will need to mine some clay. Once you have your clay;
- Use some water on it. You can get water by using a bucket on a sink, fountain or well. Once you have used your water on the clay, you should have something called soft clay.
- Now you'll need to go to a potter's wheel (located in the Barbarian Village, the crafting guild and East Ardougne. Use your soft clay on the wheel and make a pot, a pie dish or a bowl.
- Now heat up your unfired object in a potter's oven. Use your unfired bowl/pot/pie dish on the oven, and hope it doesn't crack while it's in there.
Note: The higher your crafting level is, the less thr chance you have of failing when making pottery.

Leather Work
There are 2 types of leather; normal leather and hard leather. Hard leather needs a better crafting level to make and gives better protection. To start you will have to kill some cows to get their hides. The best places to do this are either in Lumbridge or next to the crafting guild. Once you have all the hides you want, go to a Tanner so he will make your hide into a piece of leather. Tanners can be found in the crafting guild, Al-Kharid and the ranging guild.
- Normal Leather costs 1gp per hide to have tanned.
- Hard Leather costs 3gp per hide to have tanned.
You should now have your leather. Go to a crafting shop (in Rimmington or Al-Kharid) to buy some needles and some thread. Use your leather on either of them, and make what you want. If you want to make studded leather you'll have to smith some steel studs and use them on the leather body/chap.

Gold Jewellery
There are three types of items you can craft with gold:
- Rings - which you can enchant with magic to give them special powers.
- Necklaces - which can be worn around your neck.
- Amulets - which you can also enchant for special powers.
These items can be made by themselves, but more often a gem is included. To make gems you'll need to get your old pickaxe and go mine some rocks, What you're looking for isn't ores, but gems which you can obtain from rocks randomly (For members, wearing an amulet of Glory significantly increases your chances of mining a gem). Gems can also be obtained when you kill monsters.
When you have the gem/s you want, you'll have to use a chisel on it. (which can be bought in any general store). Once you use your chisel on the uncut gem, you'll recieve a cut gem that's ready for use. What you now need to do is get some gold. Go to the mines and mine it, then smelt it in a furnace so you get a bar. You're ready to make some jewellry!

Go to the crafting shop in Rimmington or Al-Kharid and buy a 'mould'. If you're going to make a ring, then of course you'll need to buy a ring mould, if its a necklace, buy a necklace mould and so on.You can also get the moulds in the crafting guild if you lvl 40 crafting or above. Once you have the mould you want, go to the furnace and use your gold bar on it. A menu will come up with the different items you can make so that you can choose.
Note: You can also craft gold jewellery without gems in them, however, this is a waste of exp. You'd be better off with crafting silver if you don't use gems with your gold bars.

The members only Dragonstone gem is only obtainable from the Crystal chest in Taverly. To open this chest you must have the Crystal key. This key is combined from the 'teeth half' and the 'loop half', which are both rare drops from any monster.
Amulets need to be 'strung' before they can be worn. Firstly obtain some wool by using Shears with a Sheep. Shears can be bought from General Stores and Sheep can be found outside the crafting guild and in Lumbridge. Then use your wool with a spinning wheel (Seers' Village or Falador) to get a piece of string. You can then use this string with your amulet to 'string' it. You get 3 exp from spinning the wool, and 4 exp for adding the string to the symbol.
Earlier, I talked about enchanting some of the items. As I said, enchanting jewellery gives the wearer special powers. To enchant one of the gold rings or amulets, you'll need a to have the required magic level. See our Magic Guide for more information on the levels and rune requirements. It's quite simple, just click on the spell, and cast it on the item of jewellery (If you have a emerald ring, you'll need to cast the spell called "Enchant Level 2 Jewellery" since emerald is the third gem etc...). Only strung amulets can be enchanted.

Fishing |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Basic Tools:
Net: Once you start fishing, the only thing to fish is shrimps. These small creatures can be found in many parts of the sea in RuneScape. One of the best places if you want cooking experience as well, is Draynor Market. Just a little southwest of the bank there’s a place where you can catch shrimps. To do this you will need a ‘Small Fishing Net’ that can be bought in Port Sarim fishing shop for 5 gold pieces. You can also catch anchovies with the net, you will need level 15 before you can catch them along with the shrimps..
Baiting at sea: Next thing you can fish is Sardines, you need level 5 to fish them, and you do it with a Fishing Rod, and some bait. Fishing Rod costs 5 gold pieces. Bait prices are based on how many the store has in stock. The shop will normally be stocked with 200 of them, and they cost 3 gold pieces each at that amount. You can also catch herring with bait and a rod; you will need level 10 to catch them. You can catch both Sardines and Herring from the Sea. To do this you will need to right click and select the second option, which is ‘Bait’. Note: You can also get bait from killing zombies.
Feathering/luring: Next up is fly-fishing. You will need level 20 to catch trout, and 30 to catch Salmons. For this you will need a fly fishing rod, and some feathers. Both can (Like all other F2P fishing equipment) be bought in the fishing shop in Port Sarim. You can fly fish with the rod in the RuneScape rivers. If you’re fishing and cooking for experience, then Lumbrigde is the place to be. Just fish, cook and either drop or eat. If, however, your banking the fish then Barbarian village is probably the best place to fish; Fish, cook them in the barbarian house farthest to the north (there’s 2 ever-lasting fires), and go north into Edgeville and bank your fish. Many pk’ers like Trout and Salmon because they heal 7-9 hp, and if their only 5 hp down it’s a waste eating a whole lobster or swordfish. ;) Note: You can also get feathers from killing chickens.
Baiting in river: You can also Fish with bait in the rivers of RuneScape, but you won’t catch Sardines or Herring. Here you’ll catch Pikes. This fish heals 8, and you need level 25 to fish it. Again, get a ‘Fishing Rod’ and some bait and start fishing. Bait is the second option when you right click on the river fishing spots.
Harpoonage: (Tuna) Next up is the big boys (well, fish actually). Get your Harpoon (Port Sarim fishing shop, costs 5gold pieces) and head of to the beautiful island named Karamja (take boat from port sarim). Go down to the little dock, located in the middle-north of the banana field. The trip to Karamja will cost you 30 gold pieces by the way, and another 30 to get back. Here you will be able to catch Tuna's with the Harpoon. Simply click on the fishing spot where it says ‘harpoon’. Tuna is good for training on low level monsters that won’t hit you that hard, for example in the Karamja volcano, where there are red spiders and skeletons to train on. There are also Lesser Demons, but you might need some better food for them.
Caging: You can also fish lobsters on Karamja. However you will need a ‘Lobster Cage’ to do this. This will cost 20 gold pieces from the Port Sarim fishing shop. Lobsters are a great way of making money, many people prefer lobsters for training food, because you only need to be level 40 to fish and cook them, and they heal 12 hp. Cage is the second option when you right click on the sea fishing spot.
Harpoonage: (Swordfish) Last but not least is the Swordfish. You will need level 50 fishing to fish these, they heal 14 hp, and you catch them the same place you catch Tunas. You will most likely (depending on your fishing level) get more tuna than swordfish when you fish for them. Like the tuna, you also need a harpoon to catch swordfish.
Members Locations
Catherby The fish here are the same as in the fishing guild, except that the lobsters are two clicks, where as the ones in the fishing guild are one click. There’s a fishing shop right next to the fishing spots, here you can buy and sell both fishing equipment and fish. The shop owner has all you need to fish, except the fly fishing rod, and feathers.
At the fishing spots in Catherby you’re able to fish with Big Net, Bait, Cage and Harpoon. You can catch the following things/fish: Oysters, Caskets, Seaweed, Mackerels, Cods, Tuna, Lobsters, Basses and Sharks.
Nearest bank: Catherby
Gnome Stronghold Here you'll find a few fishing spots, they're in the middle west of the stronghold, and you'r be able to both lure and bait fish... There isn't much to say about this place, other than it was used much in rs1 for power fishing, but in rs2 its rather deserted...
Nearest bank: Gnome Stronghold (east of the fishing spots).
Fishing platform You’ll have to have done the quest Sea Slug to come here. It’s not that great of a fishing spot. You’re able to net, bait, harpoon and cage fish. Check out our Sea Slug quest guide for more info on the quest.
You’re able to catch Shrimps, Anchovies, Sardines, Herrings, Tuna, Lobsters and Swordfish at the sea level of the platform.
Nearest bank: Legends guild or Ardougne.
Fishing guild
First off, you need to be level 68 fishing to enter the guild, however if you're a little smart, you can get in at level 65... Just get yourself a fishing potion, and enter the guild...
The fishing guild is the place to be if you are good at fishing... It has most of the fish in the game... There are 2 piers to fish at, the one to the south have 7 spots with one-click-lobsters, and tuna/swordfish "harpoonage" + 2 spots with Net as first option, and harpoon as second, here you can catch the normal Big Net fish, and harpoon Sharks...
At the pier to the north we have 4 spots with one-click lobsters and harpoon tuna/swordfish, and 4 more spots with Big net/sharks.
Other than places to fish, the guild also has a bank, and a fishing shop that buys/sells most fish + bait and feathers. There's also a range in the building to the south where you enter the guild. Its truly a fishers heaven.

Intro
Cooking is the single most important skill in Runescape. Everyone needs food to live, and that's what this skill provides. You won't be able to make the best food that heals 20 hp right from the start, but it doesn't take long before you get up there. When making food there's also a possibility (like with most other skills) that you fail. This will result in you burning the food, and making it worthless. The better cooking level you gain, the less food you will burn.
Basics
Getting flour
There's two ways of getting flour:
- Go to the Port Sarim cooking store and buy it.
- Find a pot. These can be bought in the general stores, or you can make them yourself in carfting. Go to a field with wheat, I recommend either Lumbridge or north of Yanille, pick some of it.
Now go to a windmill, and go all the way to the top. Use your grain (from the wheat picking) on the hopper, and operate the hopper controls. Go down stairs and use your pot on the flour.
Getting water
- Find yourself a jug or a bucket. These can both be bought in the general store.
- Go to a sink or fountain, and use your jug/bucket on it. If you have a bucket, you can use a well as your water source as well.
Pots, pie dishes and bowls.
- These items can all be made using the skill crafting. Check out our crafting guide for more information about this.
- Pots can be bought in the general stores and pie dishes respawn in the dwarven mine at the pickaxe salesman.
Cooking/baking
Cooking food can be done in 2 ways. Either get your axe out of the bank, chop some trees and light the logs with a tinderbox, or simply find a range. Ranges are market with this icon on the world map: . Note that it's only meat and fish that can be cooked on fires.
Fish
For more information about the cooking lvls and exp gained from cooking fish, check our fishing guide.
Pies
- Mix flour and water and make 'pastry dough'.
- Use the pastry dough with a pie dish.
- Now add the content you want.
- Redberry: You can buy this in the Port Sarim cooking shop, or find them at their respawn south of Varrock. - Meat: Kill a cow, bear or chicken and cook the meat. - Apple: Apples can be found on the cooking guilds' first floor. The guild is located east of Varrock, and you need lvl 30 cooking to get in.
- Bake it.

Pizzas
- Mix flour and water and make 'pizza base'.
- Use (don't eat) a tomato and a slice of cheese on the pizza base. You can buy these in the Port Sarim cooking shop, or get them at the respawn in Draynor Village.
- Bake it.
If you want some filling on, add it after you baked the pizza. - Meat: Kill a chicken, bear or cow and cook the meat they drop, then use it on the pizza. - Anchovies: Fish with a net (see fishing guide), cook them and use them on the pizza. - Pineapple: Go to the jungle area south of Brimhaven and find a pineapple plant, pick the pineapples, use a knife on the pineapple and make dices. Use them on the pizza.
Note: Pizzas are eaten in 2 pieces.

Mining & Smithing Guide |

Intro to Mining
Mining is the process of using a pickaxe to obtain ores from rocks. The higher your mining level, the better the rock you can mine - to obtain a more valuable ore. You have to wield your pickaxe, by clicking on it while it is in your inventory - and then click on a rock. These have different colours depending on the ore they can give, but a 'rock' is a small cluster of three rocks. Rocks can be found at 'mining sites' all over the world, you can view maps of mining sites in our maps section. You can right click and prospect a rock to see which type of ore ti contains. When you click on a rock to mine it, you will see your character swinging at the rock until he/she gets an ore.

You can obtain different Pick Axes from Nurmof the Dwarf, who sells them in the Dwarven Mine. The better the Pick Axe, the quicker you will obtain the ore from the rock. Below is a table of the different Pick Axes.

Gems
Often you can obtain Gems when mining. These give zero xp towards your mining level and the ore will remain in the rock. These gems can be used in the crafting skill to make Jewellery. Refer to our crafting guide for more details. Wearing an amulet of Glory (members only) will increase your chance of mining a gem significantly. There is also a special collection of 'gem rocks' in Shilo Village which give specific gems you can only get from there. The various gems obtainable are shown below (note: Dragon Stone is members only):
Mining Notes
A few more things to explain about the skill of mining:
- Your character will continue swinging until he/she gets an ore. If someone else is mining the rock and the colour changes to gray - it means the other person got the ore. You should move on to another rock or wait till the ore respawns in the rock and the colour re-appears.
- Mining Coal is a good business to getting some cash as it is always in demand by smiths around the world, because as you will see below - it is required in all medium and high level smithing.
- The Mining Guild is an area restricted for miners with a level over 60. It is an extended area in the Dwarven Mine and has many coal rocks as well as a few mithrill. For more details, refer to it's guide.
- You can buy a 'Dwarven Stout' to drink from the Inn in Falador. This will raise your mining and smithing by one level for a couple of minutes.
Smithing : Smelting
The first half of the Smithing Skill is Smelting; which is the process of converting your ores into metal bars sothat they are ready to be hammered into objects. All Ores must be smelted with a secondary ore to produce a metal bar. Sometimes you will require more than one secondary ore. The exception is when you are smelting Iron ores. These have a 50% chance of conversion as they are considered impure.
To smelt an ore, you must 'use' it with a furnace, as shown below. Simply click on the primary or secondary ore in your inventory and then click on the furnace. You will see your character smelting them in the furnace and as a result, a metal bar will be deposited in your inventory. A few of the common furnaces used for smelting are:
- Al-Kharid
- Falador
- East Ardougne (members)
- Lost City (members)
|
 |
Smithing : Forging
Once you have your metal bars, these can smithed into different objects - weapons, peices of armour, dart tips and more. To do this you will need a hammer and find an anvil, as shown below. Note: All furnace and anvil locations are shown on the world map. Click on the metal in your inventory, and then click on the anvil. A menu of objects you can smith will pop up. Select the object you want to smith and your character will do so.
 Hammer Anvil

Some objects will use up more than one bar, and if you don't have enough, the number of bars will be in red. If your level is not high enough to smith that object, it's name will be in black rather than white, and when you click on it - it will tell you the smithing level required.
You recieve smithing xp per bar that you forge into an object. Smelting and Forging ores is considered a good method of making money - as you can sell the end product to shops or other players. You can also use the Low Alchemy and high Alchemy Spells to convert the objects into gp.

|
 |

You can also use the Low Alchemy and high Alchemy Spells to convert the objects into gp.

good selection of leather armour for rangers. Refer to the crafting guide for the details of how to make them, but they are presented below with details of their stats. Armour for rangers has to be made from leather as it allows the greatest flexibilty of movement and is light enough not to weigh the ranger down. It also provides a good defence against other rangers, but makes you slightly vulnerable to regular warriors. Free players can wear all these types of armour made from leather of cows.

Intro Magic is a very multi functional skill, it can be used to make money, to kill other people or NPC's and many more things. The spells you can do can be divided into 2 categories, each with with sub-categories. The two categories are harmful and non-harmful spells. The harmful spells are used to kill people or NPC's and the non-harmful ones to make your Runescape life easier. The harmful spells are divided into several categories; strikes, bolts, blasts, waves and some other special tricks. The non-harmful spells exist of teleport spells, alchemy spells, enchanting spells and some other sneaky things. What all these spells do, how you're are able to cast them and many more things about magic are all in this guide.
The runes First we start with runes, in order to cast a spell, you need runes in your inventory which will be used to cast the spell. I'll start with a list of all the runes, where they respawn and how they look like;
There's three shops in Runescape that sell runes, you could also try runecrafting them or buy them from fellow players. A lot of NPC's also drop a good amount of runes when you kill them, But one of the best ways is, like I said, buying runes from one of the stores. One of them is Aubury in Varrock, a bit behind the east bank. And the other one is Betty in Port Sarim. Here's a list that'll show you the different prices in the 2 shops:
Note: The rune prices depend on how many runes the owner has in stock. The more runes s/he has, the less they cost.
Also there's a third shop that sells runes, but that one is members only and is inside the magic guild.
Experience points
Each spell will earn you a certain number of experience points towards your Magic skill when cast. These are displayed below. However, with Strikes, Bolst, Blasts and Waves it isn't as simple as that, because you can also inflict damage. There is a base amount of xp you will always recieve when you cast the spell, even if you fail it and see a splash, and this is the value quoted in the table below. But you also receive extra Magic xp and Hits xp depending on how much damage you inflict.
- For every damage point you hit your opponent, you recieve 2 Magic xp.
- You also recieve 1.33 Hits xp for every damage point you inflict.
For these spells, there is also a maximum on how much damage you can inflict - and this number is in brackets after the spell name.

There are a few special spells that you need certain staves for, you might've seen them already in the list above. Let's start with the spell called Iban Blast; Not only do you need level 50 magic for it, but you also need to complete the Underground Pass quest before you can cast this spell. When you've done that quest you'll get a special staff, called the Iban staff. This staff will last for 20 spells and then you'll need to recharge it at the Underground Pass, you can do this by using it at on the Flames of Zamorak (the big bowl right after paladins). It's not a very effective spell to train your magic with obviously, but you could use it to duel other players.
If you lose your Staff of Iban, you'll have to kill one of the Zamorak disciples in the underground pass cave, get the borken staff they drop, and then go to Lucien (located in West Ardougne) who will fix it for 200,000gp.
Then there are 3 other staffs, all from the same mini-game, called the Mage Arena. You have to finish this game before you can choose one of these staves. Once you've completed the game you can pick either the staff of Guthix, Saradomin or Zamorak. Each spell costs different types of runes and have different effects on other players. Before you can use these staffs and the spells outside that Mage Arena you need to cast the spell that belongs with your staff 100 times in the Arena. This will cost you 200 bloods runes + the other runes involved, if you don't have the money, don't bother. Staves There's actually two kinds of staves, the staves that everyone can use and the stavess that are members only, which are called Mystic Staves. The staves that everyone can buy can be bought in Varrock, from Zaff's staff shop.
As you can see, there's several kinds of staffs; First of all there's the battlestaff, that's not of any interest to non-members. I'll tell more about battlestaffs in a sec. Then there's the staff, for only 15gp, it doesn't add anything to your magic skill, pretty useless. Then the magical staff, it boosts your magic a bit and that's it, not really of our interest. Then, the staffs of air, water, earth and fire. That's what we need. Each of these staffs boosts your magic and when you wield them, they'll serve as an unlimited supply of of that certain rune. So a fire staff will let you use spells where you need fire runes for, without having the fire runes! And the same goes for the other staffs.
Then there's also battlestaffs, which are members only and cannot be bought in their full glory here anyway. Battlestaffs need to be made with a certain crafting skill, read more about that in the Crafting guide. When battle staffs are made and enchanted, they become; Mystic fire/earth/water/air staff. Also they will have the same fighting stats as a rune long sword and will also do the same the other staffs; It lets you use fire/earth/water/air runes unlimited, depending on what battle staff you have. As I said, battlestaffs can't be bought from a store, you have to buy them from players or get them from NPC's. |

Intro
This skill requires that you have done the Rune Mysteries Quest. Its a fairly easy quest, and you'll most likely be able to complete it in a max of 30 mins.
To do runecrafting you wont need much tools, just a pickaxe (any kind will do), and the talisman of the rune you want to craft. I'll give the locations of the talismans/alters later on.
To start with you'll have to mine some rune essences. You can only do this in the special runecrafting mining fields. To get to one of these you'll have to get teleported by one of the following people:
- Headwizard in Wizard tower - Aubury in the runeshop in Varrock - Wizard Cromperty, East Ardougne - Wizard Distentor in the Magic guild - Brimstail Gnome in the Gnome tree village, underground cave
Once you get teleported you'll be in a cave like thing, there are a couple of rooms with some giant rocks in the middle. Mine the big rocks and you'll get your essences. Bank them, and go back for more, or go straight to the alter.
Talismans and Alters?
You dont find the talismans just lying around here and there, you'll have to kill monsters to get them. Some talismans are easy to get, while others are extremely hard to get. Here's a table of what monsters you'll have to kill to get the different talismans.

Multiple runes per essence
When your runecrafting level gets higher, you'll be able to get more then 1 rune per essence. Here's a table to show you at what level you'll get more runes :) However remember that you'll still only get exp per essence, not per rune... This means if you get to lvl 33 and get 4 air runes for 1 essence, you'll still only get 5 exp.

Tips, tricks and notes
- You can get a talisman, even if you arent able to make the rune it refers to yet. Same goes for finding the alters.
- First of all, mine your essences at Aubury (Varrock Rune Shop) if you are f2p. He is closer to bank and that saves time. If you are p2p then use the Magic Guild, its very fast. When you are mining take only pickaxe with you.
- To make the trips faster, dont carry anything else other than your pickaxe. This way you can run longer.

good selection of leather armour for rangers.

However, there is a better type of leather you can get by killing Dragons - Dragon leather. This can be crafted to make even more useful Dragon Leather Armour as shown below. Different dragons give different hides which inturn can be crafted into different leathers. Only the green variety is available for f2p players from Oziach, after they complete the Dragon Slayer Quest. They are also proving to be the latest fashion.
They all need you to have a lvl of 40 defence to wear as well as,
- Green Leather Armour requires 40 ranged
- Blue Leather Armour requires 50 ranged
- Red Leather Armour requires 60 ranged
- Black Leather Armour requires 70 ranged
