The purpose of this web site is to share information about losing weight by running.
In the summer of 2006, I was 45 years old and had been overweight most of my adult life. I had tried almost every diet and type of exercise, and although I had some success, it was always short-lived. I was in the midst of a salads and smoothies diet when I came across the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. One of the things it said that got my attention was:
"To sustain weight loss in adulthood: Participate in at least 60 to 90 minutes of daily moderate-intensity physical activity while not exceeding caloric intake requirements."
Seeing the "60 to 90 minutes a day" recommendation was a bit of a wake up call for me, for it highlighted how pathetic my previous attempts were at increasing my level of physical activity. I decided to take up running to lose weight. In the beginning, I could not run once around the high school track, but I kept at it, kept improving, and by the end of 2007, I had run over 1500 miles, lost over 50 pounds, and participated in races
from a 5K to a marathon. Since then, I have been training to improve my running
performance and hope to one day qualify for the Boston Marathon. Best of luck with your running weight loss journey!
