My husband and I moved into our house about seven years ago. Even though it's a pretty old house, one does not get that "eerie" ghostly feeling upon entering it....although some bizarre things have happened in here like no other place we've ever lived. My following stories are probably not the spookiest you've ever heard in your life, although what we have encountered still remain unexplained.
Well, anyway, one night about three years ago on a dewy, dreary summer evening, my husband Todd and I were just relaxing watching television. It was about midnight when I apparently fell fast asleep on the couch, being so exhausted from work. Todd retired in the bedroom for his nights rest.
It was very late at around three o'clock am when I groggily awoke from a deep sleep because I sensed someone nearby the couch. This really tall man was standing right next to me and said, "Oh, I'm going to the bathroom. I'll be right back." So being half asleep as I was, I lay back down for a mere 5 seconds, then got up from the sofa (thinking that that man was my husband) and went into my bedroom. To my sleepy surprise Todd was fast asleep. In fact he was snoring. I remember wondering why he announced where he was going - he NEVER does this - and how did he get back to sleep so quickly? So I shoved his arm a few times and woke him up. Todd said, "What? Why did you wake me up?" I said, "Did you just go into the bathroom?" "No, he said. Go back to sleep." Being somewhat perplexed I immediately fell back to sleep in my groggy confusion.
When I got up the next morning I reflected back on my experience. Now fully awake, suddenly then realizing that what I had seen was in fact an apparition. It really scared the daylights out of me. I had never seen a ghost before in my life. And I knew it was a ghost because I remember it being whitish, and it was a lot taller than my husband. Also we are the only ones living here (or so I thought).
Even though it no longer scares me when I think about it......I often wonder......why did the ghost tell me he was going to the bathroom? I guess you get all kinds of spirits...
Another weird experience was when we first moved in the house. On the second night we spent the night here we each had VERY similiar dreams. We dreampt about three boys playing with guns and one was accidently shot dead. A few weeks later, we had learned that our home was almost two hundred years old and used to be a boys school in the 1930's. ( Some day I'll go to the local library and do some research on this place).
The only other ghostly experience I've had didn't involve a person, although it had something to do with our pet, "Mr. Velvet Ears." Mr. Velvet Ears was a beloved large beautiful black cat who had adopted us a year before we moved in here. We had him for three years when suddenly he became mysteriously ill and died on Valentine's Day morning. Weeks later, one afternoon, coming back from the grocery store, I noticed something black in my kitchen. To me it looked just like my cat. When I went into the kitchen I saw it run under the table. But when I finally got there and looked under the table where it had run, there was nothing. I thought, "oh, it's probably just my imagination.
But later that same evening when Todd got home from work, he went to take a quick nap. I started to cook dinner. Then I heard, "Stoppit Deirdre." I went and turned on the bedroom light and asked Todd what he was talking about. That I was trying to make us some dinner. He told me that he thought I was joking around with him - "That he felt something wet on his back, like a cat nose or something." This is when I grew more convinced that the spirit of our deceased cat, Mr. Velvet Ears, was probably just visiting us in spirit, to simply let us know that he was alright.
The only other strange things that have happened in our house are, there have been a few times when the television has switched channels by itself, and the oddest have nothing to do with my stories: Once in a while, if I have a very moody day and happen to be angry about something 1-3 light bulbs burn out at once. Or if I am very happy about something, while driving, my car horn honks by ITSELF. I really do not know how to explain this at all!
