Hiroshi's World!! Chapter One: A Summoner is Born! I...I can't do it! Yes, you can! You just aren't trying hard enough!! This was just another day in the life of Sakura, a shinobi in training at the Kozuka ninja clan. You probably thought that was something dirty, didn't you? ;) Well actually, as I said, Sakura is training to become a ninja. However, she cannot even use a single ninjutsu! Talk about pathetic! Her teacher, Kenji Kozuka at the ninja training academy really believes in her though. I mean, she has the graceful figure to be a perfect ninja! Now anyway, back to the story... Kenji: *thinking to self* what am I thinking... she can't use ninja techniques... maybe I really am wasting my time teaching her...... no!! I can't give up on this girl! I'll get fired!! Sakura: Um... Kenji-san? I think class is over... *looking at children running home* Kenji: Indeed... well I better get going, I have to help my father cook for the annual harvest banquet today. Take care, Sakura. Sakura: Bye... *runs back to house* Sakura's Mother: How was class today, Sakura? Sakura: ... *pretends not to hear question* Sakura's Mother: ... *wishing she had not asked the question* Sakura had been under training for a few years, under the son of the village elder. Even under that kind of expertise, she could not even successfully complete a single ninjutsu. She felt horrible about herself. Her family occasionaly tried to comfort her, but she knew that they were disappointed at the same time. Children in class bullied and teased her, but she didn't really seem to be bothered by it. After all, they were just innocent, naive children. They didn't understand what it was like... to be alone... Sakura: *talking to self* Just look at all those ninjas... going out on important missions in unknown lands... they actually have a purpose in life... they actually have something that they can use... to benefit the rest of the world. *thinking to self* Why can't I be useful? Why do I have to waste Kenji-san's time in class? Why can't I just be like everyone else? Maybe there's something wrong with me... About a couple hours later, it was time for the annual harvest banquet. It was a celebration held in the autumn season, when crops were harvested quickly to prevent their freezing over in winter. Since Kozuka was a fairly large village, there was much land used for the sake of agriculture. They stored most of it, but used some just for this glorious event. Sakura was looking forward to the minimal stares as well. It was glorious, indeed... people put aside their grudges and hatred and sat together as friends, and enjoyed the company of one another for a delightful dinner. As always, the village elder was present, and though old, he was in good health. He was a jolly old man, and lived life as if there were no tomorrow. His wisdom was what gave many of the shinobi great inspiration. He raised the toast, as usual... Elder: Thank you, everyone, for coming here today! This is our 50th year as a shinobi clan, and it is a glorious year! This must be our most abundant harvest yet! I would like to thank my son, Kenji, for helping me and the village chefs make this delightful meal! *laughter and applause* I would also like to congratulate a very special person here today... Sakura's curiousity was piqued. Who was he talking about? Elder: I would like to congratulate my daughter, Rikku! This young girl has today, become one of the ninja elites! She now has the privilege of going on shinobi missions, along with the other elites! Everyone began applauding enthusiastically. Rikku Kozuka was the youngest to bear the clan name, and was indeed an impressive girl. She was the strongest female ninja in the clan, and definitely made everyone more proud with each passing year. At such a young age, she had joined along with the ranks of the elites! Elite was the highest rank of ninjas in the Kozuka village, and they had more benefits and privileges than any other ranks. Of course, the elder was more respected than these people, but he rarely fought, despite his incredible power. Most of the elites were men, in their early twenties. Rikku, however, was only 15 years old. Sakura joined in with the enthusiastic applause. What an honour, it must be for her! After the toast, the elder sat down, in between Rikku and Kenji. Kenji was not eating his food... Elder: Eh? Kenji what's wrong? Its the annual banquet!! Surely you aren't unhappy?? Kenji: Father... I think... I think it's time... Elder: Huh? wtf are you talking about??? *talking with mouth full* Kenji: Mind your language, father! I am talking about Sakura! I believe that it is time to tell her the truth, about... everything... Elder: hmm? Ahh, yes... I've been waiting for the day when I'd have to do that... and don't raise your voice at me, young man! I can hear ya loud and clear, all right? Kenji: Well, you didn't have to say the F word!!! Elder: Well it was the only way to stop you from trailin' off now, wasn't it? Now, don't worry. I'll talk to her after the banquet is done. Once everyone leaves, can you summon her to the shrine? Kenji: Ah... yes father. *starts to eat his food* Once the feast was over, everyone began to make their exit out of the grand hall. As planned, Kenji waited for everyone to leave, and then went to Sakura's house. Sakura's Mother: Hmm? Oh! Kenji-san! What brings you here? Please, have one of the cookies I made! I insist! Kenji: Um... I apologize, but I am here to see Sakura. The elder wishes to see her. Sakura's mother: Oh? Alright then. Sakura!!! Sakura: Yes? What is it Kenji-san? Kenji: The village elder wishes to discuss something with you. Please, come with me. The ninja prodigy and the ninja failure made their way to the elder's shrine. Sakura didn't like the way Kenji said "wishes to discuss something with you" Sakura: *sarcastically* Heh, great. What have I done THIS time? Kenji: Don't worry, its not that kind of discussion. Ah here we are! I will leave you here with the elder, I must go attend to important business... Sakura entered the elder's shrine temple and saw the elder Kozuko meditating in front of an aromatic fire. Mmm... smells like yoga. Elder: Ahh, Sakura. So, you've come. There is something very important I have to tell you. I am not sure how you will take this, but I know that it is something that you will need to know. Whether you are relieved by it, or scarred by it, you need to know this... simply because it is the truth. We have been hiding it from you since the day you were born, and for that, I apologize... Sakura: Okay, no offense Kozuka-sensei, but you are seriously creeping me out. What is it that you are trying to tell me??? Elder: Sakura... you are not a shinobi. Sakura:*thinking to self* Uh... I kinda KNEW THAT. Wait... there's gotta be more to it than that, there's no way he would have summoned me here JUST to say that. Elder: As well, you are not from the Kozuka village. I am not even certain you are from Gaia. Sakura: *thinking to self* I'm... not from the village? I might even be from another world... so many thoughts flowing into my head... what am I supposed to believe?? Elder: Sorry about that, perhaps I should not have forced that upon you so quickly, ho ho! Ahem... let me tell you the story about how you were found... Sakura listened with curious ears. Maybe she wasn't supposed to be able to use ninjutsu after all. Maybe it wasn't her fault that she was a failure... she wanted to know, though. She wanted to know who she was. As far as it was now, she was no longer Sakura, of the Kozuka Clan. She was someone else, living in the shadow of a ninja. Elder: Fourteen years ago... I took some of the shinobi elites on an important mission in a faraway village. Since I was much younger then, I had the strength to fight as well. When we returned from our successful mission, i couldn't help but notice something under a cherry tree, outside the village. I went over to observe, and found an adorable baby girl, wrapped in a very exotic-looking silk cloth. When I lifted her from the ground, a cherry blossom petal fell from the tree and landed on her nose. That is how I decided on her name... Sakura. For the first time in her life, Sakura felt special. She felt like she was appreciated. She felt... loved... Elder: Along with you, I found these... *picks up two items from a shelf nearby* a staff... and a necklace. In all my years of studying, I know very well that these particular items are accessories of a summoner, a magic user who has the power to call forth the Guardian Spirits of Gaia to his or her command. I could not believe it when I saw these... summoning is an obselete profession, simply because summoners disappeared from Gaia. That is why I believe... perhaps you aren't from Gaia. Perhaps. But let's get to the point. This necklace here cannot be worn. I do not know why, but when I tried to wear it the time I found you, it began to sting and sent miniature shock waves into my bloodstream. Of course, it would take much more to bring down me, ho ho!! I put it aside on this shelf but I am a bit curious... perhaps... could you try on the necklace? Sakura was shocked at his request. Well, what do you expect? The necklace sent shockwaves into his bloodstream! Now, that can't be too good, now can it? Nevertheless, She remained calm Sakura: *hesitating* o...okay... The Elder handed her the necklace. It had nine little rings on it, and each seemed to have a different symbol engraved into them, written in an ancient language that seemed impossible to decipher. She hesitated even more, but ever so slowly, she held it up over her head, and began to gently pull it onto her neck... she had nothing to lose anyway, and just as it was completely on... Sakura: AHHHHH!!!!! An intense white light shot out of the necklace, and pointed towards the staff. The elder fell back, and was almost speechless. Elder: W-w-what in the world??? You nearly gave me a heartattack, yougin'!! Honestly, screaming like that!! huh? That white light... Sakura... pick up the staff... Sakura followed the bright beam of white light, squinting her eyes, and reached out, grabbing the staff before her. The bright light gradually subsided. Then it all became clear. The necklace must have been some sort of test. A test to see if she was worthy of the staff... then she knew. Sakura: That means that I'm... I'm a... Elder: Sakura! You are a summoner! The last summoner to ever walk this land... Sakura needed some time to think about this. She was the last summoner on Gaia... what now? Could she really stay in this ninja clan, watching other people graduate from the academy, then become elites? She now knew, that she had a purpose. She was chosen by the staff, and the necklace. She was chosen to be a summoner. Then she wondered about her past. Why was she under that cherry tree, anyway? Perhaps her real parents abandoned her there... but why? She wanted to know. Now that she got a taste of the fruit of her past, she wanted the entire orchard, so to speak. She wanted to go on a journey. She wanted to find these parents of hers. She wanted to know why they'd trash her like that, and if they were any kind of parents, why would they let her live a life of being shunned by everyone? Sakura: I better be going home now, Elder. Uh... thank you for telling me all this... Sakura then headed back to her house, and pondered to herself what it was she wanted to do Sakura: He said that summoners were people that could command the Guardian Spirits of Gaia... that sounds like an amazing power... does that mean.... I could do that? If I obtain powers from all of the Guardian Spirits... maybe I will become stronger... then everyone will respect me... they'll all know that I'm not a failure... I will go on a journey to find out who I am... but first... I will go on a journey to obtain the powers from all the Guardian Spirits! With their power, I could go on missions, too! I could help people, save people... I wouldn't have to see people suffer before my eyes... I will protect the world with this power! So it was settled. Tomorrow morning, she would set out, on an adventure of a lifetime. She would find these Guardian Spirits and become a powerful summoner. And perhaps, learn more about her enigmatic past as well... Early in the morning, she awoke to tell the Elder about her journey. Sure enough, he was awake as well, meditating in his shrine as usual. Sakura:Kozuka-sensei! I'm... Elder: Eh? Oh Sakura its just you. Yes, I figured. You are going on a journey, aren't you? Don't ask me how I know. I can tell by the light in your eyes. Here, take the staff. But before you go... Sakura: Huh? You're actually letting me go? Kozuka-sensei! You rock!! ;) Elder: Whoa there, I'm not finished. I am letting you go, but I cannot let you go alone. Though summoners may be powerful, you do not know how to use that kind of strength. As well, do you really think you can protect yourself with a staff? You haven't captured any of the Guardian Spirits yet. He had a point. Sakura was thankful for the elder's thoughtfulness, and awaited the plan he had for her protection. Sakura: So... how will I be protected, then? Elder: I have no choice... but to send my daughter, Rikku, to accompany you. Sakura: W-WHAT??? Y- You can't do that!! Rikku has just become an elite! She has the potential to become great! Don't do this to her!! She could keep training here and become an amazing shinobi! Elder: Indeed. But there is more to being a shinobi than physical strength, Sakura. It requires wit and wisdom, pride, and courage. Things that you cannot learn simply by reading a book, or fighting. You learn such virtues from experience, and that is the only way to become a true shinobi. To use your head, instead of your legs. And that goes for YOU as well. So really, I am giving her a better path by sending her with you, now, aren't I? Ah, speak of the devil, here she comes! Rikku:Father... I'm ready to go. You're Sakura, right? It's an honour to accompany you on this journey, it truly is... She gave a little bow. Sakura was flushed with embarrasment. Someone bowing down to her? This was unheard of. Sakura: Um... pleased to meet your acquaintance. It is an honour to have such a shinobi on my team as well! Rikku: All right, then. Shall we get going? Goodbye, father! Take care of Kenji and the others, alright!? Elder: Don't worry about it! They were making their way out of the village, when a familiar person was waiting for them. It was Kenji. Kenji: Sis, you're going on the journey, too? Here, take this... *handed Rikku a bow and some arrows* This used to belong to me, but its yours now. It'll be more useful than the one you've been training with all these years. Rikku strapped them both to her back, and hugged her brother Rikku: Thank you, Kenji!! I promise I'll take good care of these! Take care of father, alright? Kenji: Haha don't you worry! Good luck on your journey! To you, and to Sakura. He then whispered to himself, so that no one could hear... Kenji: Sakura... I know you'll make me proud... They were now leaving the village. And for the first time in their lives as well. This was going to be a long journey. And somehow, Sakura knew, that they would get more than just power out of it. The two girls, a high-ranked shinobi and the world's last summoner, walked side-by-side, prepared for whatever peril lied in wait. This was the day, when a summoner was born. |
