Pro Pitbull is a campaign to reveal the true beauty and character of pit bull type dogs. It is the goal of this website to inform the public about the true nature of these dogs, reducing the amount of "pit bull prejudice." People everywhere despise and fear these wonderful pets as a result of one sided information and propaganda-type media. Thousands of 'pits' are euthanzized every year because irresponsible owners choose to provide inadequate training and socialization, which studies prove influence behavior, not genetics or breed type. Hopefully, through the information provided by this site, a greater awareness for the true nature of the 'pit bull' will be raised.

The 'pit bull' is actually not a breed of dog. 'Pit bull' is a general name given to a group of dogs that look similar or served the same purpose. These were the bull fighting dogs. Dogs bred to bull fight were placed in an arena with a bull. The dogs were supposed to kill the bull by jumping up and biting its nose and then hanging on. Dogs bred to perform this function often had square muzzles or a "pushed up" nose. After bull fighting was outlawed, the dogs were then fought against each other. Despite the fact that this is against the law in all 50 states, it still occurs illegally. The dogs that are fought are most commonly the American Pitbull Terrier (APBT), the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Staffie), and the American Staffordshire Terrier (AmStaff). These three breeds are the most commonly referred to as 'pit bulls,' although some go far enough to place the Bull Terrier and the American Bulldog in this category.
